I too experience the same nipple pain it seems every winter. Given I that I live in Arizona it is not much of a winter. I am 30 no kids and not expecting. But when it starts to cool down I really start to notice a sharp pain. It is really annoying and kind of worries me. I tried googling hyperlactaemia as well, but did not find much of anything??

I am a 29 year old with no children. I live in South FL. We recently have had a cold spell and every morning for a few hours my nipples hurt so bad - I thought I was crazy. I am so glad I looked it up. I have been layering on clothing - today I have four layers on - it seems that layers do decrease the length of time the pain continues. It is not a constant pain, it comes and goes throughout the day. I saw that someone mentioned a condition that affects extremeties.. I have recently also been experiencing numbness in my toes - it is quite random but most often times occurs while I am wearing dress shoes - but both seem to always occur when I am cold. I do live in South FL, but it happens if I am in my office where they keep the AC down very low. I am not sure if the two are related, but thought I would throw it out there in case anyone else is experiences this. I have yet to see my doctor, but I am glad I found this post. If my doctor gives me any insight I will be sure to let everyone know.

I'm sorry that all of you are having this trouble, but am I glad I'm not alone. I've been getting this off and on for years but it's been getting worse or rather more common lately.
Sometimes hot showers or baths work, but so far the only thing that has helped - if I'm at home - is either a hair blower right on them or curling up with a heating pad on high. That won't work in public though. A friend of mine suggested carrying around those hand warmer packs in my purse. I haven't tried them yet, but it couldn't hurt, at least I don't think it will. I am going to try it, because what do you do? It happens while shopping, at work, almost anywhere.
Good luck.

hi, i have suffered from Raynauds disease (aka Raynauds phenomenon) since childhood and i am mid 40's now...when i used to ride a motorcycle i would have to place a hot water bottle filled with ultra hot water acroos my chest (inside my jacket of course!!) just to prevent the awful blanching, blue and purple coloring, pain and numbness....
I also get cold extremities (especially fingers and toes, most noticeable fingers) and while winter increases the events (I am super sensitive to cold), i can get it at almost any time of year..it is related to constriction of blood vessels in the affected areas..i do remember that when i was pregnant i would have to get under a very hot shower several times a day soemtimes just to lessen the problem...i dont even have to get very cold, just being a little cool/chilled can be enough to get it going on almost any extremity...
My doc refused to precsribe meds as he believes that most of the meds that can help Raynauds can also lead to other more significant problems secondary to side effects of the meds (he is right!!), so i just try to remember as much as possible to avoid situations that excacerbate the problem..no alcohol or smoking, dress appropriately, extra layers when going out, no beta blockers, etc...i have learned that this is a chronic condition for me so i live with it and try to prevent it as much as possible...

Finally something that makes sense. I have always had problems with sensitive nipples in the winter time, but since I became pregnant, it's gotten ridiculous. Before it was just a sensation of mild discomfort, now it feels like someone is pinching my nipples as hard as they possibly can twisting them (basically giving me a purple nurple) for up to 30 minutes at a time. It usually starts when I feel cold, either due to the weather or to having a cold drink, but it persists even after I warm up. Usually it will stop on it's own, but it takes about 30 minutes and that's 30 minutes of complete agony that literally has me in tears sometimes, or vigorously massaging my nipples in public places because it hurts so bad I don't even care what people think.
The only thing that can stop it in it's tracks is heat. I found a heating pad works really well (but waiting for it to heat up is torturous), or if I'm in public, getting a cup and going into the bathroom to fill it with hot water then leaning over it with my nipples submerged. If I'm in the car, I can crank up the heat and direct it all through one vent and discretely drape myself over the dashboard. I've even bought a cup of hot soup in a grocery store once just so I could hold it against my chest while I shopped.
What pissed me off is that when I tried to tell my gyno all this she just said "that's normal that's normal", but I have talked to tons of pregnant women, or moms who have been pregnant, and they all get this blank look on their face and tell me that though they had some sensitivity and discomfort in the breast, it was never like that. And the nipples turning white on tip (it turns purple once I run it under hot water btw) makes me think it has to be this Raynaud thing. I probably won't even seek treatment because it sounds like it is not really treatable and anyway I am hoping it will subside after pregnancy, but it is nice to finally understand what it is and know that there are other people who have experienced it too.

I've just read all the replys to this and find myself relating to some of the symtoms but not all of them. The last few days I have noticed nipple pain in both of my nipples. It is cold where I live but we always have cold winters so I'm not sure this is the problem. I am on the pill as I have been for the last 6 years so I don't think I'm expecting. The pain is dull but not ging away. No color change or strange discharge. Just feels like someone has been yanking on my nipples. I can't stand this much longer. If its not better by the weekend I'm sucking it up and calling the Doctor.

Hi everyone,
I am 26 years old and have had this problem as long as I can remember. I have seen many doctors and none of them could explain it. From research I've done on my own, it seems as though I have raynaud's, but only in my nipples. I can not tell you how to fix the problem, but I have found something that works for symptoms as they happen. I can't guarentee this will work for everyone, especially if you have small breasts. It's kind of embarrasing, but if it helps you .....well here goes. when the pain hits,( i know it's the last thing you are going to want to do) but put your entire nipple and areola in your mouth and suck as hard as you can. this should draw the blood back to the nipple and make the pain go away instantly. Unfortuneatly it won't last for long. to keep the pain from coming back get in a warm shower and gradually increase the temperature until it is very hot. this will almost always work for me. hpe it works for the rest of you as well. I know it's kind of a weird treatment, but if you've had the kind of pain I have, I'm sure you'll want to give it a try. sorry so long. Good luck everyone.

I also experience all of these strange symptoms. Extremely painful nipples (mine is always way worse on the right side), they turn white, then purple, and finally red. I was so desperate from the pain that I found some Aspercreme in the bathroom and rubbed it on my nipples. It actually helped. I thought I had something really wrong with me! I'm glad to know it's not a sign of some life threatening condition. I have also tried aloe vera sunburn spray, it has an anesthetic in it. That works too!

I'm a 17 year-old girl, who isn't; and never has been pregnant, and I've always had poor circulation in my hands and feet. This happened to me for the first time last night and really freaked me out, because it only happened to my right nipple, as well as my extremities. When I finally 'thawed out', my extremities and my right nipple turned a bright firetruck red. I also live in Sydney (Australia), which means that winter here isn't even that cold.

Hi all, I have the same problem and have had the samae pain for over 15years now. The only thing that helps is having a cup of hot coffee or tea. As son as i drink it, the pain goes away. myst just heat me up internally. Normally the pain is so bad and it definitely makes it hard to sleep when it occurs during the evening.

I'm 17, no children, not pregnant etc. I have the same problem. Sometimes they just get so sore and itchy though that the skin peels away, which I know is disgusting, but makes the pain even worse. Even when I'm not cold, they are cold. It's really distracting and irritatiing in school...
