Hi Lola :)..Does this happen while you are on your period, or just before or after it?..If so its completely normal..Most young women get sore breasts at that time of the month..As you get older it will eventualy go away..Probably in your early twenties..My daughter is 22 and hers still does it, but she said its not every month like before, so its starting to go away..Hope this helps you :)

Mine started doing this when I was 35 and Im now 42..sometimes happens in just one, but most times in both..At the beginning of winter its pretty bad..Every time my nipples get stiff lol from the cold, they ache so bad I have to take Ibuprofen..I just now googled it to try and see what could help, because it just happened..It also happens in the summer if I lay in the sun, and then spray myself with the cold water hose..I had already figured out it was the cold that does it, so now Im going to try the fish oil and magnesium to see if it works..Since its November and likely to happen alot, I will be able to tell if its working...I will be back to post with the results :)

I have severe pain in my left breast and nipple area. I had a right side stroke in may which leads me to believe this may be from the stroke since it's on my left side. I get relief by laying sideways next to a body pillow and my dog gently eases back against my chest giving me the warmth and compression I need to ease the pain. My dog also sensed the stroke when I was sleeping and saved my life by waking me up in time to call for help!

Jennifer, have you looked into conditions such as Cold Urticaria or Raynaud's Syndrome? Both are autoimmune conditions related to the body's ability to acclimate to cold temperatures, neither of which have a known exact cause, nor cure. I live with Raynaud's, which traditionally affects the body's extremities (hands and feet) but can also affect your nipples, your nose and tongue and ears. Mine was diagnosed by a rheumatologist. It occurs in women more often than in men, and is believed to be hereditary, and can even occur in warmer temps like if you pull something out of the freezer. It can be very painful. My daughter has Cold Uticaria - I assume but cannot guarantee that it is also hereditary. C.U. is confirmed by an allergist, it is more or less an allergy to the cold. People with this condition often get hives, swelling, or welts and blotches, or a rash after exposure to the cold, particularly in windy weather. I had never heard of this, but one look at my daughter the first time this occurred and I thought a careless or naughty classmate had hit her in the face! She says it isn't painful, but itchy and bothersome. The key to this seems to be direct exposure, though. It can also occur in warm weather - I know someone who reacts every time she eats a popsicle. There are varying degrees of severity for both conditions, and Raynaud's can be related to other diseases like arthritis or even Lupus. In severe cases both can affect the health of your heart. Keep looking into it - you are the best advocate for your own health.

I'm 16 and this happens to me too. At the beginning of the school year my teacher had been having trouble with the air conditioning in her room and it was always freezing cold! My nipples hurt so bad that I had to leave the class and go to the bathroom to warm them up (which took awhile). I was scared to tell my mom but when I did, she made the connection right away. Last year I was diagnosed with Raynauds and never really thought about the correlation until she pointed it out. So if you experience pain and get a bluish tint in your hands or feet when cold, I would assume it's Raynauds. The best thing to do is to put a heating pad inside your bra or to bundle up (because it can even happen if your hands or feet are cold). Hope this helps :)

You have helped my girlfriend so much. Thank you for your post. She's in a lot of pain this time of year. A tall, pale, blue eyed blonde girl. Doctors just offer ideas, not definitive diagnoses. Lanolin does help but we're gonna run with this. Thanks so much.

I had this too from the time I was 18 years old (maybe before-can't remember - too long ago) till I started to gain more wait on at the age of 46. I'm currently 59 yrs old and I have had NO Problem after I put on 20 pounds and more. I was SLIM and small frame till I was 46. I read all the casues on this post and relate to yours the must because, the 3 'cold nipple pain' causes you mentioned. I can relate to all 3. My nipples would hurt then the WHOLE Breast would go into almost unbearable pain outside in the cold after 15 minutes. I live in the south, Louisiana. Spring and summer No problems. Also, My nippes stay hard almost all the time, even on a HOT day in the summer, but stayng hard didn't mean 'pain'. Always had to get a lining of 'light' padding that was made in my bras. I didn't want to get too thick because I was already a good size for my built. I have 3 sisters and none of them had this problem. Also, my mother never had this problem either. My GYN said I had very sensitive breast. But this was back in the mid 70's (started). I lived and have survived it. So GALD those days are over with. I really don' think it has anything to do with breast cancer though. But who knows.
I defintlently feel for women that have to go thru this. I was miserable many times in the winter outside. To 'Guest" the post above me, wish I had that info back in my 20's. 30's and half of my 40's. Thanks so much for your post.
