One week ago I had a small surgical procedure on my breast and was at home resting. My painkiller was 500mg of Tramadol four times a day and apart from feeling groggy I was doing well. Then I was standing in my kitchen talking to my husband and friend when like a bolt out of the blue, I experienced the most intense pain of my life. It started at the back of my head and slowly moved up the back of my head and also round into my temples. I screamed in agony and fell to the floor and writhed in sheer white pain and my head just thumped and thumped. I thought my head would burst open with the pain and pressure.  My husband and friend called an ambulance and in moaning the whole time I was taken to the local hospital. My blood pressure was high when the ambulance arrived but started to slowly settle. Once at the hospital I was left lying on a trolley in the corridor and they gave me a painkiller which I felt slowly relax my body and very slowly the pain started to ebb. No one really told me what had happened except I may be allergic to Tramadol and several hours later I was sent home. The pain left totally after 4 days but not knowing what it was has concerned me that it may come back. It was without doubt the most horrific pain I have ever felt in 52 years. Does anyone know what it could have been? Please note i was under stress from surgery 48 hours earlier, the pain was not in my neck but the back of the head moving up to temples and it thumped and thumped.
