hi,

a very close girlfriend of mine got an abortion 2 weeks ago and after the bleeding lasted 2-3 days. Shortly after that she got her period. a day or two ago it stopped and she had sex. But the next day she started bleeding again.

what might be causing the bleeding????? and is there a chance that she might get pregnant by having sex just after her "period" stopped, cuz since the bleeding has started AGAIN, it's not clear whether she's still in her period or something else is causing the bleeding.....

IF she had unprotected sex, her chances of having another pregnancy are HUGE! As your hormones - and thus your body - still think you are pregnant, so nothing attacks the sperm or the fertilized egg. I can't see her doing that, as the doctor whom did the abortion would have told her ALL of this! After a miscarriage, abortion, etopic pregnancy etc. Your body is wonky! It is a shock to the body and it doesn't know if you are still pregnant! So with her bleeding from the miscarriage, then her period, and then her hormones are sitll all over the place, the bleeding will be from that! Did she have a clinical abortion, or a chemical one? Usually - depending on the type - there are different scenarios after the fact! Please tell your friend to NEVER have unprotected sex again, she has proven that she is fertile so this WILL happen again!

A clinical one differs because they use suction, and do a DNC - where they TOTALLY clear out the lining of the uterus! Usually periods are still on the same days - as you don't have any hormones messing with them (as in a chemical abortion) But since her uterus was totally suctioned out, then there is new buildup, thus her releasing the amount that has built up since her abortion. As I stated as long as she has NOT had unprotected sex, she should be fine! NOW if it happens again - in the next week or 2, then I would like her to phone her doctor (whom did the abortion) and mention to them about the bleeding. I am 99% sure she is fine. Hope this helps?
