Are you guys all female? I'm 33yo man, i got this pain weeks ago, and it comes again. No diarrhea, no constipation or vomiting, mere pains, comes and goes, lasts almost all day and all night. Anyone can help!!! day
I had incisional hernia surgery in Nov.2008. Now 5 1/2 months later, I've been getting this pain on the left side of my navel. Went back to the surgeon and he said you could experience pain for up to a year after surgery. Everything is fine, use a heating for any discomfort. Well, this pain comes and goes, but it certainly has gotten worse. I don't know what to make of this, I don't want to go back after reading all the articles on here that no one got any answers. I don't want to spend the moneies on the testing if it shows nothing. I guess I'll wait an see if it goes away. Or check with my GI in June when I have my next appt.
I am so relieved to read these threads, I have had these pains for 2/3 years. Last year I bleed where I shouldn't and have since been in and out of hospital for tests to see if it is related. I get pains in exactly the same place in the left and sometimes it switches over to the right and makes me feel sick at times.
I have had cameras down my throat and up the other end and they have found nothing. I am now seeing a dietitian to see if it is related to food intolerance but I don't hold out much hope.
If anyone has been diagnosed, please tell us what the doctors think it is. I swear my doctors think I am making it up!

I just read a thread that said try cutting out milk for 2/3 weeks as that effects it. I have been on an exclusion diet for over 2 weeks now i.e. no wheat, dairy, gluten etc and I'm still having all these pains so milk isn't the answer I am afraid.
I have been experienced same problem for 2-3 years. Today I went to see a doctor, the doctor thought it might be the abdomen wall muscle pain or water drainage from navel, and asked me to check with CT. But I can not do it because I'm nursering a two month baby. Hope someone can find out the problem.
Me too...however my pain started as a slight twinge in December (five months ago) and all this time I thought it was diverticulosis/diverticulitis related to my constipation.
I have had problems with constipation all my life (I'm 38) but in December I couldn't go for over a week, no matter what I did.
So in February I changed my diet to a raw vegan diet which really helped with the constipation, but I still had the abdominal pain.
When I started to incorporate cooked food back into my diet again (mostly vegetarian), I started having some constipation problems again. Meanwhile, the pain in my abdomen has gotten worse.
It comes and goes, and sometimes I feel nauseous. The nausea is weird for me because I've never had much of a soft stomach. It's only since December that I've been experiencing nausea.
I don't have health insurance so in Feb I went to the ER...they took a bunch of blood tests and an X-ray but couldn't find anything.
A few of you also have the constipation problem like I do... I wonder if I'm right about the diverticulosis?
Oh yeah, I'm female but I'm not pregnant.

I am 29 years old and since last year summer I've been having lower right-side pain. Initially, I went to the doctor thinking it was appendicitis as the pain kept me up the night before. The doc ruled out appendicitis and thought it might be an ovarian cyst. I went back to him several times for the same problem but still no diagnosis. In January, I had a pelvic and abdominal ultrasound done and the results showed no abnormalities.
The pain came back a few days ago. I also feel slightly nauseous but nothing major. I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm hoping I'll get an answer. It's frustrating not knowing what's wrong.

I started having the same pain a few years ago. I finally went to the doctor and they did an xray. I found out I was constipated, but a few days later I have an ultra sound (my doctor thought it might've been my gallbladder) and they found a huge mass that they thought was coming from my ovary. When they got in there, they found it in my fallopian tube and it was the size of a football! They had to take out both of my fallopian tubes. I thought that was the end of it.
But here I am, a few years later having the same pain, but it seems a bit worse. I seem to be having sharp pains all over my stomach this time. It was just the left side before (also close to my belly button). I also have this shooting pain down my right leg. It doesn't hurt to push down on my stomach, but I'm really wondering if constipation might be the problem. I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 6. So yeah, I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm gonna have to get something for that just in case. If it doesn't stop then, it looks like I'll be going back to the doctor.
I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I'm hoping it's nothing more serious.

Well Everyone, I don't think any answers will come soon. I have been through every test possible with everything coming out fine. I have the pain just to the left of my belly button as well. Sometimes it also feels like a pulling sensation or that something is in there causing the pain.
But all tests have come back normal. And no diverticulosis. I thought that might be it as well but no. Also I have changed many aspects of my diet with no change. I have been dealing with this for over a year. I think my Dr. thinks I am making it up as well. For right now I am just dealing with it on my own. Not sure what else to do now seeing as all the tests came back normal.(bloodwork, gastroscope, colonoscopy, laparoscopy, urine tests, ultrasounds,MRI,etc) So far for me nothing brings it on it just happens. And nothing in particular makes it go away. Sometimes it is chronic and others it takes a few days off and comes back. I am going to start documenting what I eat and do and see if I can't find some correlation somewhere.
Hang in there everyone. Please write if you have the answers.

WOW! I have been dealing with these same issues for over three months now. I am a female in my late thirties and I have had the following: bone scan, x-rays, ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound, three rounds of blood work, colonoscopy, and laparascopy with a myomectomy. No one can find anything wrong with me!!!!! I too am starting to feel like people believe that it is in my head. I have changed my diet over and over again. Prior to this I had no health problems, was very active, and very particular about the foods I ate (no chemicals, no flour, almost all organic). I feel like my life has come to a halt and I do not know what to do!!!
HECK NO ! I'm a 46 y/o Male and I'm not pregnant ! LOL.
Exactly 2" left of my Belly-Button and possibly 1" up I have a 'slight' pain (everyone has a different pain tolerance, but this is ANNOYING!!)
-Near the surface, not deep in my gut. Just under the skin & fat I think...
-Worse when I'm eating bad (vacation, etc...)
-Much better or gone completely when I'm eating low-carb (Atkins).
-Not a big Milk-drinker at all, not since I was in my twenties...
-If it's coming from my Ovaries or Uterus I'm in big trouble (grin!)
LET'S FIND THIS !!!

I have the same problem -- some times the left overy can cause pain and it hurts all the way through to the back
I can't believe I just went through 5 pages and no answers. Are we all growing some type of parasite from an invading alien race?
Anyway, I'm 26, Male, 5'8" and have not made any changes to my diet or excercise routine. At first I thought this was golf damage (do a lot of you play golf constantly?) But who knows.
My pain is the same, 2" to 3" to the left of my belly button, then 1" to 2" down. If I press on it it hurts (like a sore muscle), and if I try to suck my gut in it hurts too.
Putting pressure on it causes pain, and sitting on a chair then lifting off with your left leg makes it hurt immensely. Sometimes it causes gas and makes you want to pee.
The pain is similar to what I initially felt before I had my appendix removed. I think the pain definitely indicates something is either: bruised, infected, swollen, and/or torn, etc.
By looking at anatomy drawings/illustrations, the only decent starting point I can give is that this seems to be in the area of the descending colon down to the sigmoid colon. I used my appendix surgery scar as a point of reference in relation to my belly button. The appendix is to the right, and this affected area is in the same location but on the left.
Maybe we're all eating something that is getting trapped right there?

I just started getting this pain today. It's 1-1 1/2 inches to the left of my belly button. It's like a sharp stabbing pain. It's not tender or hot to the touch at all though. I also got my belly button peirced a week ago if that helps. I'm really scared about it being an ulcer or appendicitis. I biked a lot today, so maybe that's it? Though some days in the past I biked way more than I did today and I didn't feel this pain. I am a 16 year old girl. 5'5 and a half, if that helps at all. Am just finishing my period if that helps as well.
I too have had this now for about two weeks. Left of bellybutton. Im 36m why now? It is odd, when I bend down to tie my shoes or twist I feel the sharp pain.
