I have been having similar symptoms to this and searched a few other locations for answers to this. I was able to find a web site that may help some of you. I'm going to continue to look for more answers and speak with my doctor about this. Once I get that chance I plan to post some more answers for you.
I hope this helps.

I have the same exact pain. No doctor has been able to tell me what it is. Its a sharp pain about half an inch away from the left side of my naval. The pain point is about the size of a nickel. Let me know if any of your doctors figure it out!
I too have been having this pain on and off for about 3 years. It came on after having a diagnostic lap for endometriosis. It comes and goes and is located the left of my belly button. It even bothers me when I take a deep breath in. I wonder if it's scar tissue from the lap? I have had every test possible, X-rays, colonoscopy, Upper GI w SBFT, CT with and without contrast, multiple blood tests and everything comes back normal. I'm extremely frustrated. I've tried changing my diet to see if it helps and nothing does. I really hope someone gets an answer from some doctor so we can figure out what this horrible pain is!
I guess im not the only one having the same pain. I started soon about 5 months after having my First child and now its been six years and had visits to the doctors and everything always comes back normal in all my test . My pain is about one inch away from my belly button on my left side. ITs very sharp it lasts about 40 second to 1 minute and during that time i can't move a muscle on body or breath normal just very light ,lightly breath If i move its really painfull like twisting inside .This happends when i cough loud or sneeze or bend down to reach something. One time i just laid in bed and pressed it down until i heard a popping noise then my body was really hot for 10 or 15 minutes after that. It felt like something was there very hard round . Doctors don't really know. they just say it might be gas, constipation or scaring tissue left from my pregnancy that some how grows and attaches to the other intestines and pulls. And if its that not even surgery can correct it since the tissue left from the scar of a surgery may grow in time and might have the same pain. Im now 32 and a Female. I hope its nothing serious. I really hope for everyone out there who is suffering from the same pain will be ok. I really think they should make a study on this since all the tests we had, seem to come back normal. I have my pains once every two weeks or 2 to 3 times a month. Maybe one day doctors will know what it is. Best to you all.
I have been having the SAME pain too. About 1 inch to the downward left of my belly button. I did do a lot of biking today and have been drinking a lot of apple juice. Could be some type of REFERRED pain... i'm going to get my liver and gallbladder checked tomorrow (though an ultrasound) and then plan on doing a liver and gallbladder cleanse (global healing center has some good information about treating the root CAUSE of illness, not just the symptoms -- just check out their 'Learning Center' at the bottom left of page). Also going to start eating healthier and consuming more organic fresh fruits and vegetables (because proper nutrition can only HELP the cause). Will let you know what works. Best of luck to all!!! -MAtt
I have the same pain. Except mine is on the Right. Two inches almost exactly 45 degrees going right and up. Nickel sized pain sounds correct in my case, but it radiates from under the skin into the center of the gut. It almost feels like my appendix, but it's above the belly button.
-- What do we all have in common?
Is this a parasite tucked into the H1N1 vaccine? (long shot)
I started a new abs routine to see if that helps. I'm a 5' 10' 200lb 31 year old SWM with a large bone and muscular build. I'm carrying about 10-15 extra pounds of Fat right now. My plan is to cut that in the next two months, and see if that helps.
I spend a lot of time at a computer workstation, not sure if that could be it either. As i write this my posture seems to isolate a certain amount of stress on that portion of the abdominal area. The pain seems to increase and decrease in severity, but seems to be just under the layers of skin. I'm going back to the doctor to see if they can run tests, but I'm leaning towards something foreign in my belly that the body doesn't want there.
I hope we keep this thread going. I'll check back in a few weeks to see if this flaring nickel cylinder sized pain is no more.

same problem a pain just an inch of my belly button when pressed, and right after i pressed it it makes me furt. please help?
I have the same thing, but i mostly have it on my right hand side but when it is really bad i have it on both. I have been getting these pains for a year now and i have my doctors appointment in a couple of days. I have a feeling it could be a cyst on my overies as i am now late on my period and that is one of the symptons?
Its all about nerves! my sister had this pain, right to the left of her belly button, she went to a MUSCLE THERAPIST and that cured her. DON"T WORRY. that makes it worse. Also, stretch for two seconds at a time, your whole body. icing helps a lot also.
It's 5:27 am here, I just woke up from a nightmare, I was dreaming that my friends and I got robbed and that the robber shot my friend and my friend fell on the ground and I was so afraid and I woke up, now this is when I started to feel the sharp pain "about one inch" to the right of my belly button. When I moved, it hurts, when I pushed it down, I felt like I cut my intestine... but I gave myself a little tender massage and woke up and the pain was gone. Now, I think it does related to muscle because I was working out today after a few weeks in gym and did some exercise on my abs...
It is definitely nerves folks. I have been having this pain for 3 months and freaked my self out. My doctor gave me ativan and it helped my pain. The pain is consistently there unless i take ativan. I started going to a message therapist and she has been working my Psoas Muscle and it has helped a lot. I have had ultrasounds, x-rays, ct scans and a Barium enema!!! Everything came back normal.
apendicitis maybe ?
I started getting this same pain after taking an antibiotic couple months ago. I'm thinking it's related to food allergies, which you can get after any kind of trauma. I've done a few NAET treaments, and have an appt. with BioSET practice next week.
Here's a story of a guy with stomach pains for years, and they magically went away after doing NAET:

I, too, have been experiencing the same pain just to the left of my belly button. I first noticed it about a month ago. I thought perhaps my jeans were just too tight, and the button had pressed into the area and caused the tenderness. Since then, however, it has come back a couple times. Often, when I bend over, it feels like a pulling sensation right inside the left portion of my belly button. Or like someone is poking me in the belly button with a stick. I am quite sure that it is not a hernia, as lifting, laughing, coughing, etc. do not make it worse.
The GOOD news, is that many folks have been experiencing this, and it does not appear to be anything ominous (no cancer, etc)!! SO that is good~ I am beginning to think that it is an irritated nerve. Hopefully, if anyone gets a definitive answer, they will come back here and post.
