I am 99.9% sure that all of you experiencing this pain have something wrong urinary-wise. To the left of you navel, about 2 inches over are your left ureter and your left kidney. I'm going to the doctor for this as well.

do any of you guys have celiac disease?

it could lead to the food not being digested right.

Exactly 2 inches to the left, and 1 inch up, from my belly button. I've had this pain for a couple of years, on and off. The pain is different, but it's always the same spot. Sometimes it feels like someone poked me with a dull stick real hard, or like someone punched me there, or like there's a tiny leprechaun in there stabbing me with a toothpick, recently it's started to feel like a really dull chemical burn, but not like a stomach acid burn. Right now it feels like I worked my abs too hard in a workout, and it somehow only hurts in that small spot.

I'm a 28 yrs old male, a little over-weight, and have suddenly become lactose intolerant so I don't drink milk anymore. I do have acid reflux, which I've read is a secret cause of a lot of things. I stopped drinking sodas about 6 months ago, and I've improved my diet, but I still feel exactly the same, this pain keeps coming back, and it's getting worse. It's even started to pulse or throb a little.

It's under the skin, maybe under the fat like the guy a couple threads back, but it doesn't feel like it's in the stomach, it sometimes feels like it's infront, behind, or in the muscle.

I've had kidney stones before, so maybe it is a urinary issue.

I'm thinking it's acid reflux, or maybe even irritable bowel syndrome, but sadly I have no insurance now and I won't be going to the doctor anytime soon.

It does seem to be related to bowel movements though.

I have pretty much the same pain and have been dealing with it since i was 19- 7 years ago as i am now 26. At age 19 it debilitated me and I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts. That is what the pain has been attributed to ever since, and for those who are thin, an interesting factoid is that PCOS often strikes thin people also so do not let your doctor tell you otherwise! (i comment this because several doctors have said this many times to me)

additionally, for those who have had the complete workup, one thing that many doctors and people do not understand is that cystic ovarian syndrome is not aptly named, because the conditions and its symptoms can occur without an actual cyst present on the ovary which leads to many people missing it. I saw a specialist because the pain was interfering with my life and had to deal with it.

For the women with this pain, I strongly suggest talking to a Gyno about the possibilities because while treatment has not really helped me outside of pain meds and anti-inflammatories, i do feel better knowing my condition is now monitored and that I know what the heck is happening with my body.

I just sarted feeling the pain today. The skin hurts when you touch it. When I sneeze it feels like someone is stabbing me. I feel the pain on the left side of my belly button towards the top. What the heck is it? So many people are writting with the same problem; however, no one know's what it is. That's Scary. If it is still here tomorrow I am going to the doctor. I am a 35 year old female.

I have had these same problems since January, I have been to the ER several times, gynocologist and my primary doctor on many occasions. I have had extensive blood work done, urinalysis, pap smear, gynological cultures, std tests, internal and external ultrasound, everything has come back normal. I have noticed a 5 to 7 pound weight gain which is very abnormal for me, I have been between 118 to 120 pounds for many years now without much effort, now I struggle to maintain a weight between 123 to 126 pounds I have been running 5 miles an hour 4 days of the week for 3 weeks and dieting but I am unable to shed any weight. I have sharp stabbing pains 2" below my belly button and about an 1" to the left, my entire lower pelvic region becomes swollen as if I am 3 to 4 months pregnant and becomes very painful and sesitive. This usually occurs about once a week and can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, the pain is very intense like the cramping sensation that occurs during labor, I am unable to stand up straight and it hurst worse if I stretch. I usually find the most comfortable lying down position possible and don't move until the pain subsides, I find it more comfortable to lie on my right side with a pillow between my legs. When I am not having the stabbing pain I have a general crampy sensation and a weighted feeling in pelvic region. Stabbing pain occurs more frequently when I spend long periods of time standing. Lying down for several hours is the only thing that will eventually settle the pain down. I have a ct scan scheduled for next month, which I hope will have some answers for me, but after reading other responses I am losing hope. Good luck to the rest of you, if anybody has a diagnosis please share.

hi ,

I'm having the same pain , 2" below the belly button and about 1" to the left aswell.Been having this for about 7 years now. With me it just comes out of nowhere , but always in the evening or at night.

Its a severe sharp pain , been to the ER for it many times. After doing all the tests (ultrasound , colonoscopy ,bloodtest ,...) I was diagnosed with IBS at first ,wich imo is a 'we dont know , so lets call it IBS' answer.Tried all the medications for IBS , had all sorts of allergie tests , been diagnosed with acid reflux , samonella , food poisoning , ....

still , after 7 years of testing and seeing difrent dr's and specialists no results at all.I saw a documentery about abdominal pains a few months ago , it stated that there has been very little research in this area cause its emberasing.

at the moment a lot of specialist are looking in to it because so many people have these problems , so I'm hoping one of em finds the answer some day and that the people on this forum keep us posted about there diagnoses cause I'm willing to try anything to get rid of these 'attacks'

I know that this may sound very strange to most of you but what you are about to read is very true and there are ways to cure the pain without medication. I am a young Asian female that too started to experience the pain you all describe on and off for the last 4 years. It's simple the pain is associated with muscles that are linked with your pulse if that makes sense? Western doctors do not believe it or take you serious if you ask them but there are Indian remedies like massaging and techniques you can do to take the pain away. It's sounds crazy but it is true I have had to have it done many times and my pain goes away with them. The pain is due to something not sure what it's called in English but something that can move out of place in your abdominal area and cause symptoms such as sharp stabbing pain, sickness diarrhoea, loss of appetite and weight loss. The thing that causes your pain has to be massaged back to the navel area. Most of you have had tests and medication that have not helped but I assure you that you don't need take them as it will only mask the real problem. The best option you can do is ask someone from an Indian background to help you as the older generation will know how to heal the pain. Sounds hard to believe but it's true and for most of you it's an option to consider as the western world will never understand it, it is ancient Indian remedies that can only help.

Hi everyone. Going down the list and reading about people that have - almost to the T - what I have is astounding. I am an almost 17 year old female who has had these recurring attacks for at least a year. They happen once a month or perhaps once every two months, in the afternoon or towards the evening. It is a "nagging" pain that is an inch or two to the left of my naval. The pain gets stronger, and then it subsides (in intervals of a few minutes at a time). It feels dull - almost cramping? It helps when I take more shallow breaths. I find that when this is going on that I am able to burp on command - when normally, I'm not one of those people. It isn't a belch, just a simple "airy" burp. What I find too, is that the pain travels. It starts near my naval, later (maybe an hour or so) I feel it lower down in my belly, until eventually it disappears. For the next two days, my low belly is tender - of a muscle soarness - that, like any muscle soarness, gets better with time and goes away. Normally this whole thing would last hours into the night and the only reason I fall asleep is because of exhaustion. The last couple times, however, I found that it wasn't as long. I took one or two Gas-X once as an experiment and I found the duration of the pain shortened. The other time, I chose to take one or two again; I found that my pain lasted only a couple hours as opposed to through the evening and into the night. I'm not sure if this is a reason to be hopeful or whether the last two occurrences were more mild in nature. I've read about the formation of gas bubbles - maybe that's the answer? I hope that this helps someone; in the meantime, I am desperate for answers. I don't know what to do or where to turn. I just fear it coming back.
