It's an allergy to the dairy protein; not the lactose. So lactose pills don't work. It's in most breads. You should be fine with most rye breads. Look on the ingredients list and see what you are eating with dairy in it; even potato chips, crackers, etc.

I am so glad to read this. I have had these types of freeze pains the last two years coming on strong in the morning just after my cup of joe. I recently had a bout of stomach flu and had explosive dirarehia which made these symptoms worse. I am changin my diet and adding things to it( I love food).
It is nice to know that there are things ou can do and not do it alone. Thank you

It is a spasm. Dr's can prescribe Symax, a perscription that stops your rectum from contracting/spasming like it is, which in turn keeps the pain from happening. I know how you feel I had this for two years before I found anything out about it. I think mine has to do with taking accutane as a kid. They are now linking it with other issues such as IBS however, the actual cause of these rectal spasms are not yet known/understood. So I know you wanted to avoid a Doctor but if you really want this to stop you will need to go see one to get an antispasmatic.

it's called proctalis fugax, and the treatment for this is, believe it or not, an albuterol inhaler, if this does not work they will sometimes give nitro glycerin. it happens more often than you think. talk to your doc about it.

I've been up for almost an hour now with the same pain everyone has mentioned I'm laying on my bed and it hurts to make the smallest move, I complain about my butt hurting all day but like how many have mentioned it seems to be the worst at night this is so.common there has to be a cure or something we can take no one should have to go through this I'm only 23 and I feel like something inside my backside us going to explode! If anyone has been treated for this please share!

I am a 33 female and I have this same issue, it always happens after I wake up in the morning, about 3 out of 5 days. It hurts so bad that I cant move, it lasts about 10 minutes or less then goes away after a bowel movement!! It has me worried because of the sharp pains!! I havent even asked my doctor what it could be, I just had my appendix removed a week ago, but this has been happening way before my surgery!! Im really worried about this serious pain though!!

I'm so glad I looked at this. These pains are so intense! I was worried! I'm only 16 & I couldn't handle these pains. I would stop moving completely come of the intense pain. But reading these comments made me feel better (: thankyou

Micky, I also have both the anal pain and ibs, which makes it even harder to figure out, because I do not push at all, sometimes I wish I was a little constipated. I think the guys that said its diverticulitis (sp) sounds like the problem. I dont know but I only have had this once in a while (not daily or monthly) sometimes even once a year, but it goes away after a day, I am on my third day of pain......argggggg.

Advil Advil Advil!!!

popcorn, junk food, constipation , stimulant laxatives are some of the reason. Non pharmacological measures are great for prevention

ponce they occur try to breath as much as u would like to hold ur breath you shouldn't then swallow 3-4 advils

good luck to you all. My comrade anal pain sufferers

Hello...i have had this same problem for years and it feels like a spasm up my rear end and it is so intense i cant even talk and instinctively i have to get on all fours and rock back and forth..i don't even think labor was this bad and it still lasts for up to 5 mins. i am a 42yr old female and i just found out i have malrotation of my upper and lower bowels which now makes sense due to chronic bloating, constipation and diarrhea and abdominal pain but i am not sure as yet if malrotation can cause this rectal pain but im leaning toward the possibility...i have  not talked to my doc yet about this congenital abnormality so i will update on this soon..please anyone with malrotation and rectal pain/spasms like me?

I get this too and have done for a couple of years.

I feel it coming slowly and then about 20min later its agony. Usually at night. It lasts an hour or 3 sometimes. I find myself stretching and holding my arse open trying to get rid of it like cramp in the leg. I sometimes sit on the bog even when i dont need. i thought it was milk and dairy but sometimes it just happens without that. i still dont know the cause :-(
