This also may be anal fissures. They often feel like you got suddenly impaled on a long long knife. Go to a Colorectal Surgeon(formerly known as Proctologist) they do a quick exam and will tell you if you have fissures. The good thing is anal fissures have a very straight forward regimen to heal.

Yes, it is coffee. (Too much potassium & caffeine)

I Had never really drank coffee until last year. And when I first discovered it I went semi-crazy for it and was drinking it all day, putting in my protein shakes, making foods with it. Coffee chocolate everything. I felt that it was causing a lot of problems for me and just as I decided to stop I started getting these pains which confirmed my worries. I went cold turkey. I drank another coffee a few weeks later and the feeling came back as strong as before. But since I have stopped drinking coffee it has subsided and become noticeabley a lot less regular.

------I would say it is from too much potassium (which is found in coffee) and maybe caffeine. ------

Problems related to too much potassium are

High blood pressure Treatments
Hypokalemia
Hypertension
Stroke Treatments
Hypercalciuria Treatments

I'm so happy I found more people experiencing something similar. I have had this problem since I was 22, I'm now 40 and it seems to be getting worse. My pain kicks in after eating Beef. It can last for 2 seconds or 5 to 10 minutes. It only subsides when I have a bowel movement. The pain really woke me up last night. I've had a Colonoscopy that showed no issues. I eat lots of nuts and Popcorn with no problems. Beef on the other hand just doesn't like me. Sure I can stop eating beef but I also want to know what this is.

I have noticed to experience this same problem if I don't take a good probiotic (I use Yoli the Better Body Systems probiotic) If I don't take it for 2-3 nights than I notice the pain returns. It only happens 1x a day tho

Hi, I'm here just after having survived the longest abdominal/rectal/anal pain I've had a while ago.

I'm 20, female. I've been experiencing these sharp pains/spasms(?) in my lower abdomen. I don't know if we're experiencing the same thing, but during my "episodes", when my anal muscles move (even accidentally), there will be a very sharp pain that would shoot up and send spasms throughout my lower abdomen -- around the area where menstrual pain happens, altho I'm sure this has nothing to do with menstruation. I can't even touch the area around the anus as it would send a jolting pain. This happens to me only occasionally, most often in the morning. It would wake me up then I'd crawl to the bathroom, the pain worsening with every movement. I'm certain that I need to take a dump but at the same time, I can't "push" since moving my anus hurts so bad. So I'd just sit in the toilet for about 5minutes and wait for my digestive system get rid of its thing in excruciating pain. When I've finally let it out, the pain would be gone.

But today, it hit me when I was in the middle of a night shower, and I had to stop. It lasted for about an hour, with the pain subsiding very slowly. It ended up with a bowel movement. But after 2 hrs, I'm still having some discomfort over there.

I've never had a regular bowel movement, and I don't drink coffee often altho rice is a staple for me (I'm Asian). What I see, at least for me, is that I'm just constipated. Almost everytime these horrible pains happen it ends up in a bowel movement. So I think it's my digestive system's way of getting rid of hard stool or feces that has been inside for days (yes I can go on days without bowel). So I think coffee is not necessarily the cause, but that coffee is just a trigger for the digestive system to work. The pains also tell me that I haven't been paying attention to my diet or that I'm not hydrated enough.

Hi; I did the same thing you are doing. I could feel my bowels, but could not get all of it out. Have you tried 1. get a hot water bottle with the long hose. Fill the hot water bottle with a lot of mineral oil and water. Put plenty of mineral oil around your butt area and put the tube up your butt. Release the material oil and water. Make sure you put the hook from the water bottle up high so you can get the full effect. Trust me, I could not go for several days and I took everything. Finally, I went to the emergency room and had x-rays done. I found out my feces was not coming down because it was too high in my intestines. The doctor told me to go to the store and buy sodium citric citrate. My daughter brought me two bottles. The first one work a little bit, and the next day, I took another, and it worked. Now, maybe twice a week, take a couple of stool softeners. Yes, drinking a lot of water really helps.

Please refrain from straining! I have fought blood in my bowel movement and constipation for nearly 7 years now! The best investment of your life would be to purchase a juicer and drink fresh carrot/beet juice. And ease up on eating all meat and dairy products!

Thanks for the information. I have been eating a lot of popcorn, lately, and I normally like eating the half cooked kernels, too. But, that might actually be the problem. The popcorn kernels are probably getting stuck in my intestines, because I only noticed it, a couple of days ago, but I notice, now, that it was always happening when I would eat popcorn. So, thank you for writing this, and sharing this, because that's actually very helpful, especially when that really honestly answers my question, so well. If it keeps on happening, I'll go in to the doctor's, but, first, I'll stop eating popcorn, for a while, and see how that goes. Thanks, again, for all of the help. It's very helpful. I really appreciate it.
