Hello, I need some advice regarding my extra weight. I always had just a couple of extra kilos, but lately it is more like 15, and it built up fast, from the moment I broke up with my boyfriend. Now I am not sure what to do. Should I be fasting if I want to lose weight? What do you think?

Well, fasting itself is more related to some religious beliefs than to a healthy way of losing weight. There are religious that require fasting on certain days from their followers. It is nothing dangerous for your health if it is done a day or even two in a week, but any more than that, I think that an advice from a doctor regarding this matter would be a wise thing to search for.

Fasting is something that is included in many diets, although it is not mentioned. Of course, there are also diets that do include animal products in its menus. I am not a fan of fasting, simply because I generally think that diets are not a good way to lose extra weight. Balanced meals and a lot of exercise, that is the only healthy method for that.

Fasting in some cultures also excludes sexual activity and is explained as a way to cleanse the body both physically and spiritually. This might be related to diets but it also can have that religious element. If you need an example, in orthodox religion, fasting is recommended for Wednesday and Friday, but most of them do not take it seriously.
