It shocks me that people comment on this thread so often! I've suffered from this since I was 17 and I'm now 24, it has definitely got worse as the years have went on.

I used to only get a sore shoulder pain. A couple of years ago I started to feel it across my abdomen too. Now i get a cold sweat, my stomach swells so much and I feel the need to make myself vomit (helps a little).

I went to my doctor before and was given omeprazole and judgements about my drinking (I am not a big drinker). Going back to the doctor tomorrow So I will keep you guys posted.

I also have this problem. I wanna ask how many people here have a BAD reaction to probiotics?? Chronic Fatigue issues? I take Bcaa to survive. Do full spectrum antibiotics cause u to get very ill??? The closest answer I've found is a build up of lactic acid in muscles. Or Something called ALDH.

Hi All,

I too suffer from the exact same issue that each of you is describing. My research has led me to believe that it is an issue with processed sugars. It never happens to me with beer but has happened drinking anything that has a processed sugar ie: a drink mixed with soft drink or juice, wine, ANY type of sugary drink like margarita, pina coloda ect. I have never been given a clear explanation by a medical professional but have mentioned it many times at doctors visits ect. For years, I have steered clear of any drinks that include sugars and it has made a huge difference. Also, eating well before drinking reduces your risk of having an episode.

This just happened to me for the first time...I had hard cider and suddenly had excruciating pain across my abdomen and my shoulders...I had a gastric bypass in Feb and thought it might have something to do with that as it had never happened before. The pain subsided after about 20 minutes...about five minutes ago! Please let me know if you figure out what this is...I’ve never felt pain like that before...I was considering calling 911 it was so bad, and I’m a nurse with a VERY high pain tolerance!

I've had this for years - it's at it's most severe when I drink cider (beer/larger is fine), symptoms subside after 20 mins or so, and I'm usually fine from that point on. I've just this moment recovered after drinking a single bottle of crabbies Ginger Ale, and while this isn't cider, it does have similarities in texture and taste of cider (no, I'm no connoisseur) but I'm guessing there's a particular chemical / substance causing this reaction. It's just alcohol that effects me now (32), but strangely when I was younger (up-to mid 20s) I suffered the exact same symptoms after drinking Ribena!, yes, that lovable children's beverage floored me for 20 minutes. Anyway - it's never caused any serious issues, and it's nice to know I'm not alone, maybe with all the evidence being posted, we can come up with decent assumption as to what's causing it! I'm on a mission to find out why this happens!

This has happened to me every time I have evee had 2 of ANY wine-cooler-like beverage. Cider, Hooch, Zima, shmiirinoff ice, & recently after drinking a vitamin water after drinking beer. ONLY the sweet stuff causes it. But yeah... 20-40 minutes of DEBILITATING pain in my trapezius muscles. Same sh*t for 23 years.

Similar issue. Not the chest, but mainly my shoulder straps and lower neck. It started after an incident. I downed an entire bottle of Fireball whiskey on my way to a concert, though I didn't get the stiffness that time, it felt like my neck/shoulders were extremely warm; shortly after I took a nap. It's been a persisting thing, though it's not entirely subtle (It feels slightly more sore than the day after shoulder day, but much stiffer) therefore not extremely uncomfortable, It only lasts for several minutes. I was really only searching this out of curiosity.

I am also the previous commenter. I forgot to mention that it will happen when I drink Gin/Diet Tonic water too. There's no sugar in the drink unless the lemon juice contains it.

I have the same type of thing and mine is very painful, it can happen after a couple sips or after my second drink, nothing seems to help and it is straight pain through my chest down my arms through my legs, they’ve tested my heart and it’s not that. I go into a sweat, I am pale and it’s hard to breathe, scale of 1-10 of pain it’s easily a 10+... any ideas.. only thing I can drink is beer but I would like to not always have to drink beer. Usually always happens with a rum and cola or vodka waters.. those types of drinks

I am so glad to hear that I'm not the only one, unfortunately, sorry guys. I have had surgery putting titanium plates put in my neck, and recently found out I need another one. My neck pain has moved down through my shoulders at times, I assumed that was the cause. My pain management doctor was pretty stumped when I asked him about it. I think drinking on an empty stomach is a factor, it is more common for me when I do so. It doesn't happen every time I drink, but I'd say probably around 75% of the time. I would like to know a little more detail about what kind of pain y'all experience. My shoulders are in pain, but it feels like it's pain from too much pressure, as if I had 250 lbs sitting on each shoulder. I thought it was just me until my sister heard me complain and told me see gets the same thing, which got me to Google this. Has anyone found any miracle workers for this? My Percocet doesn't really do much, possibly cuz I take it daily, idk. What I have been doing is getting 2 of my kick ass ice packs that last for hours, and drape one over each shoulder. It helps a ton, but could be because it's so cold it goes numb.

Same thing happens to me, especially with tequila. It's a blessing and a curse cause it is a bit of a party pooper but hey atleast you'll never be an alcoholic.
