I am so surprised and happy that I'm not the only one, unfortunately for all of you. I feel extreme pain in my shoulders when I sometimes drink, probably 80% of the time, possibly a little higher. The way I would describe my pain is that it feels like 250 pounds is resting on each shoulder, so much pressure that it's extremely painful. I had neck surgery almost 3 years ago, had 2 titanium plates placed in my neck, I always figured it had something to do with that. I have to get cortisone shots in my shoulders every 3 to 4 months to relieve the extreme tightness and pressure. Those work really well, except when I drink. The pain usually lasts maybe 30 minutes. I put ice packs over each shoulder, really really cold ones that they say can actually cause frost bite if you wear it too long. That is the only relief I get, I'm sure cause it's so cold that I go numb. I asked my pain management doctor about the added pain linked to drinking alcohol, he said he hasn't ever heard of such a thing. I know that I need another surgery to get a 3rd plate put in, but reading about all y'alls experiences I'm not so sure it's just my neck. If anyone comes up with anything that might explain atleast some of this, please please please share your info. Good luck to everyone.

What about when in happens even with 100 ml beer, or one glass of wine?

I just started drinking Not Your Father's Root Beer about 2 months ago and I think this is when this started happening. But it's not when I drink it it's usually after I go to bed 4-5 hours later I wake up in excruciating pain from my shoulders to my middle back like my muscles Are cramping and it's hard to breathe even. I was in the Marine Corps for 10 years so I know what muscle pain is and I have never had a problem with alcohol before. I don't consider myself a big drinker I would only have one or two of these Not Your Father's Root Beers I also recently just got a new bed So it was very hard for me to figure out what was going on with this. I thought it had something to do with the bed being too soft considering it would happen when I was sleeping. I would wake up in excruciating pain it would be hard to get out of bed and it would take a couple Hours for my muscles to loosen up.

I have the same thing..thank god im not alone!
I like to chalk it off as a allergy to rum and malt.
I drink every weekend so I’m used to hard drinking of any thing except rum and malt(wine coolers& limeritas).
Every time I have a pinacolada it’s followed by aching shoulders and intense ralphing like I was drunk!
Maybe your body just can’t accept it but I hope you find out about it

I'm going though the same think, never experience this before but while writing this I'm going though a lot of pain. After having 3 or 4 double shots of raw whisky in one evening I got really sick in the morning and then the next following day got non-stop diarrhoea going"Great'! Well it didn't stop there the new day later had so much pain on my shouldlers which almost made me cry. I can almost feel the joints of my shoulders/tissues.
Im going to get and see my doctor in few days! God bless us all!Be safe...!!!!

I take vitamin D several times a day and just had ab episode as you all have described. Lemon aide would cause some discomfort bur margaritas were the worse, until today. I drank 3 best damn cream sodas and the reaction was the most severe to date. Right shoulder pain and stomach pain. I believe it is the combination of sweetners, additives, and alcohol the cause the severe reaction. Nutra swe3t did not agree with mr either. Hope this helps.

This is exactly what happened to me. After 1 dose of zzquil liquid. Within 1-2 minutes felt the pain in shoulders/ back. Has happened with any kind of alcohol for last 20 years but this is the first time I’ve noticed with medicine. What is going on?

I get this pain of I havent had much to eat or drink and then drink sweet alcoholic drinks fast. Tonight it happened which is why I searched online to see if others experience it. I had a gin cooler, then half way thru my 2nd drink, a vodka cooler, I suddenly got a deep neck and shoulder pain/aching..... This has happened from time to time with alcohol and its awful. The cure for me is this..... DRINKING LOTS OF WATER!!! Tonight I had at least a litre until it subsided which it did in a few mins. Otherwise it lasts way longer and totally wrecks my mood. When the pain went away I finished the other half of my drink. It has happened post workout before too... Im confident it is a hydration issue for me.

I drink alcohol pretty regularly and never really have any issues, but a few times after the first drink of an alcoholic beverage I get horrible pain in my neck/back/shoulders, just radiating in my upper body, feels like poison running through my muscles or something. Painful for about 15 minutes and then it goes away. Today it happened again, and my heart rate it normally between 70 and 80 and it spiked to 149 after the pain had subsided even. This has happened 3 times with margaritas (sometimes doesn't happen) and today it happend with a bourbon and coke?! I feel like I should go to the Dr. I also have sneaking suspicions of hypothyroidism, I wonder if they could be connected somehow

I have the same issue. Tonight I went to a party and upper Manhattan. I had a lot of nibbles and one small glass of wine. As we were heading out the door, my neck, shoulders, and upper back started to get that familiar post-alcohol discomfort that is, as you point out, both a deep ache and a sharp pain. The train ride home was over an hour, and when I got home, I started working on something I had to have finished by tomorrow; that is, I forgot to drink water. Instead of drinking water, I started poking around on the internet to see if this relationship between alcohol and neck pain is explained. I don't have an explanation, but I think you're right. Lack of hydration is the problem and sufficient hydration in the solution.
