I also have had this problem for a long time. But not only from alcohol. I remember multiple times i had gotten it from drinking subway pink lemonade.

Omgoodness, it's so good to know that I am not the only one. This happens to me off and on...it seems like the more potent the alcohol, the more likely I am to experience this pain. Also, if I drink the alcohol too fast, I get this pain. Hopefully we can find a cause and solution! Cheers!

Wow this is crazy.... I thought i was the only one!!!

It happens me no matter what I drink ( i dont drink beer however ),
It literally happens after the first sip, like my friends think i'm crazy when i complain of "my Sholder thingy" after i swallow one sip.
It lasts no longer than 20 mins or the lenght of time it takes to drink a complete drink, after that i'm fine.
Never feel sick and its just my shoulder area & shoulder blades that hurts.
I'm only 23 and its been happening for a few years!
I'm a receptionist so a lot of time spent holding phone to ear or crouched over a computer i also fell down the stairs when i was 11 and hurt my back and seen a Chiropractor for years!! ......
This may be interesting to some of you.......
My explaination is that its the muscels in my shoulders relaxing with the alcohol, and the pain is just the tension being released??
So what do ye think of that explaination??

This is so weird! I've been experiencing the same symptons ie cramping of the shoulders, chest, and neck. Feeling as though Im having a heart attack of sorts. But never would I have expected anyone else especially these many people to be going through the same exact thing. For me its been happening on and off for about 6 years and usually when I drink mixed drinks, vodka, or red wine. It happened last night and I thought I was gonna have to call 911. Just seeing all of the threads on this made me cry. I just feel so relieved. I have not told anyone about what im going through since my 1st experience. (my girlfriends told me I was been dramatic and to just not think about it.) Someone in the medical field please diagonse us. Shed some light on what were experiencing. Until I find out Im not drinking alcohal anymore. Im a 36 year old female with no health conditions and I plan on keeping it that way.

This happens to me too! I just had one sip of wine and my right should began cramping and hurting, so I decided to Google it to see if I was alone. I really would like to know why this happens. Its quite painful and uncomfortable.

I have the same thing too and it doesn't matter what I drink either, and my pain can last a while 12+ hours. If I drink 2-3 drinks it may go away, but one drink and both my arms cramp up so bad it's awful (as you all know). I can only tell you it kind of feels like a massive sprain from shoulders to fingers. I was told it was due to clotting in the blood as alcohol is a blood thinner and causes the blood to move faster through your body (which creates the warm feeling)...if there are clots...it causes the muscles to cramp up...probably not a good thing...hmmmm.

Well, I am right there in the same boat with all of you. Ever since I started drinking I have felt this pain. Literally, as soon as I take that first sip of any alcohol, I get a pain in my right shoulder and right elbow. It is almost excrutiating pain! Well my 24th birthday was last Friday and I really wanted to go out and party. I used to always drink either beer or like tequilla sunrises and sh*t. I think the beer is what did it the most. Well, I though about trying something different. I tried a Screwdriver instead, and felt great! Also had jello shots. I felt no pain. I ended up having a great night. I always throw up too. Not this time. I had 6 screwdrivers, 12 jello shots, and 1/2 a shot of patrone. Yes, I am lame, and couldn't finish the patrone. If anybody figures out this problem, please let me know. My email address is I would really appreciate it. Someone mentioned to me tonight that I could have a slight allergy to Ethanol, which is what brought me to this forum, but if you find out, I would appreciate it. Thanks and I hope you all get the answer...Good Night!

Hey fellow crampers. I started noticing this recently, but it's been going on awhile. My pain is focused in my shoulders, and the back of my teeth. It does seem to happen when I'm not drinking a lot of water, and it does seem to happen more regularly with sugary drinks. But this is just a guess, I'd love something conclusive on this, since it really sucks. :-P

I have the same thing too, from doing research it looks like it could be hodgkins disease or possible another type of lymphoma. Or who knows, it could be allergenic. my face does turn red very often when drinking, which could be related to liver failure or allergicness (lol i know not a word ;-)
But sh*t man, i get scared, i have all kinds of random back and shoulder muscle pain way too frequently. Someone please figure this out! Where are all the doctors at?

You know what, im 25 btw, and maybe its just time to cut the weekly binge drinking way back? Maybe thats our problem, our age is startin to kick our asses? Who knows, either way i cant drink like the good ol days with out dying the next day lol. Thoughts? Feelings? Are we just getting old, or do we have a health problem?

This happens to me too! I'm always worried when this happens because i know shoulder and jaw pain are symptoms of a heart attack. I've noticed that I only get these pains when I am drinking fruity alcoholic drinks like smirnoff or the four loko enery drinks. Beer doesn't bother me at all. It only happens to me after the first couple of drinks as well then i make myself drink more or wait a while to get rid of the pain. I haven't had a heart attack or anything of the sort so far and i've been drinking for a while. It's been so bad i have had to lay down for almost a half an hour before i could continue on with my night. I am glad i am not alone with this. No one understands when I try to explain to them how much pain I am in.

I have the same thing too! However, I don't know what it is. But I have some hope!! When I have an attack such as this,
I drink milk. Yep milk. What it does is increase the mucus production in the stomach wall/lining. Helps to ease the pain and
in 5 minute's or so the pain is gone! Well those are my thoughts on the subject. Hope it will help someone. 8)

I have the exact same thing have had for the past 20 years anytime I drink sometimes its the first drink sometimes its after the second. I get this intense pain between my shoulder blades. They've looked at my gall bladder and couldnt find any stones but couldnt rule out whether it was that or not. I used to get this same pain after eating fatty fried foods or salad which is a clear indicator of gall bladder problems but like I said they couldnt find anything but wouldnt rule it out whether it was the cause or not. A friends husband had the same symptoms and they said it was pancreatis in his case and had to quit drinking any alcohol and eat right for the rest of his life. Nothing fatty, fried, salty anything. Bummer.
