It's Sulfites (Sulphites) in food and drink that cause this pain between the shoulder baldes through to across the chest. I get it when I drink certain types of cider and wine. Look out for contains sulphites on the bottle and avoid if possible. My husband gets it too.
This is exactly what I have. I can never justify going to a doctor because it usually passes after about an hour but it sometimes goes on for hours and it's excruciating. I feel the tingle during the day usually and it gradually gets worse and worse. Does anyone know what this is or how i can treat it?? The first time it happened was only recently but it's been happening more and more frequently. :-(
Check for an allergy to sulphites.
I posted before on here with this crazy disorder and I had it again after eating something fried they did an ultrasound on my gall bladder AGAIN still nothing. I had this checked 10 years ago and again now still not the gall bladder. I can have it happen when I drink regardless of what alcoholic drink it is or how good the liquor is and regardless if I've just eaten or not. There is no rhyme or reason when this is going to happen. It can happen when I eat fried foods one week and not the next. I wish someone would tell us what this is I feel like a hypochondriac but now I know I'm not imagining it. And yea my husband laughs when I get this shoulder thingy.
I have Anklosing Spondylitis as known as AS..I also have psoratic arthritis which is both progressing fast......Im + for HLA_B27 which is a genetic factor for some forms of arthritis....thats alittle background of my health....well I too have the same thing...but i get this with drinking...pain threw my chest and shuolder blades threw my back and down my arms..BUT when i have a couple sips of alcohol it intensafise the pain...so bad that i cant drink it anymore....ive heard it might be something to do with uric acid?...i go to my rhemy on monday so ill ask about it and get back to you:)
I have had a problem for about 10 years. 34 now. First noticed with Mikes Hard Lemonade. One bottle and I was on the floor with severe arm pain from my shoulder to my hand, chest pain, confusion and panic.
Recovered quickly after drinking lots of ice cold water.
Happens with sugary drinks like margarita, sweet malt beverages, soda/alcohol mixes. I believe it is the sugar/corn syrup mixed with alcohol. Corn syrup by itself has no effect.
Drank a can of sprite last night. Then drank a glass of white wine 15 minutes later. Within one minute i had severe pain/preasure in my right arm. Drank ice water and it was gone within a minute. Rest of the night was ok with wine.
Also have difficult drinking red wine.
Have considered that the problem may be citrus/alcohol as well. Wish someone could solve this problem.

I am now one of many too the list it seems. The drinks that have done it the most are two dollar margaritas, house mixes of cheap liqour (long islands etc) these damn four loko drinks especially. Three things clear them up, drinking over 12 ounces of water, eating two slices of bread, and laying down, in that order. It works almost everytime. but it is annoying, a little unnerving, and downright embarassing having to through up after 2 margaritas. Still no diagnosis for any of this?
Did anyone ever get any testing on this? I have done some internet research and have come across certain cancers that cause this, so of course I am concerned. Thanks!
i experienced it twice today and i just realized it was from the lemonade that i drank.
i had a bad hangover the other day and that definitely is part of the cause. i used to
get it every once in awhile from drinking. earlier in the day i tried to keep myself
busy to keep from feeling the pain and drank plenty of water and massaged my
aching muscles. it gave me some relief but still wondering why this happens?

I have the same thing happen, but it only happens when I haven't had alcohol for more than a week between drinks. I have ONE friend that has complained of the same thing. I called a friend who is a Dr. and said to look into Folic Acid in reference to alcohol consumtion. But he had no definate answer.
If you are well hydrated and continue to drink water while drinking alcohol it won't happen.
This happens to me also, that's very strange.. its similiar to what happens to me when I take codeine. Hydrocodone I love, but codeine gives me this feeling along with alcohol. Its very uncomfortable like an allergy...
The posts here are incredible. I have had pain just above my stomach, running along my diaphragm every time I drink rum on an empty stomach. I am miserable for about 20 mins then it goes away. I cant believe with all these posts that noone has found a diagnosis
go to itunes store and search for "dr karl on triple j". The answer to this question is in that podcast in the one that was released on the 8/6/11 at about 13 minutes in.
I have the same problem. But it happens when I drink pop sometimes as well.
