I have the same thing, when I drink brown spirits. I went to the doctor about something else and told him about the shoulder pain I get. He said the pancreas nerve endings are in the shoulders and it's a reaction of the pancreas with drinking alcohol.

My main pain is in my neck and shoulders. It is so intense and aches terribly! I have found that it comes on after premixed drinks like tgi fridays or wine coolers ANY thing like that. Or the mixers you buy to add alcohol to. My mother has the same problem so she only buys straight liquor no premixed anything. She said it may be from nitrates or sulphates...hope that helps! Glad im not the only one (besides my mom lol)

I was just wondering if its possibly lymphoma if the shoulder pain only happens with certain types of alcoholic drinks. This is something that has happened to me for almost 10 years with certain types of drinks. I do have some of the other things that could be a sign of lymphoma but not exclusively that. I just decided to google this the other night and am kind of scared.

I have this issue. After 10 years of experimenting, I finally realized what it is and how to prevent it from happening. It is sugar... Especially sugar drinks. Before I drink alcohol, I only drink water or diet soda at least the hour prior. While drinking, I stay away from anything that has sugar (margaritas, wine coolers, jack and Coke, etc. etc.). I can drink as much beer, wine or liquor as I want without any aches or dying pains. I also do not eat anything with sugar before, during or after. I hope this works for others. My doctor was no hope and only seemed to doubt the pains.

I also have experienced this for years. It doesn't matter what I drink. Wine, margaritas.  Sometimes beer, but not as often. It is instant, one sip of anything, every muscle in my body burns. It used to be only my shoulders and uppe arms. Now it my thighs too. I am glad to know I am not alone, but I really want to know what causes it.

This same kind of thing happens to me too.... It's really wierd. Last night I was drinking smirnoff ice coolers and both my shoulders just started getting intensely achey and my its like I had this giant cramp in my right shoulder. The pain is just unnignoreable (if thats even a word) I had to sit on the floor with my head against the wall not moving for like 20 minutes then I felt better. But then last night when I tried to get to sleep it started happennin again. wierd wierd wierd

It is a symptom of Esophagitis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esophagitis

You should get an Endoscopy study to get the best treatment, but it is usually treated with omeprazole.

Take one omeprazole before going out drinking and you won't have this happening to you.

Glad other people get this lol.. iv been gettin it for a while but its not everytime and i dont think its due to a certain drink although i did used to think that. i last got it a couple of days ago when i was drinking straight dissorano (the sh*t that smells like marzipane) it was in the morning because it was me dads birthday so i was havin a drink in the kitchen. The thing is tho i was drinking exactly the same drink the night before and i didnt feel it atall! Drunk alot more of it aswell. it could be of an empty stomach but i dont really recall being hungry when its happened in the past. Top tip time. last time it happened was the most intense pain i had ever felt from it so far.. so i run a hot bath. sorted it straght away :D

Like everyone else I suffer what I call the Devil's Pinch - Like an invisible hand burning through my right shoulder, ribs feeling like their going to explode, sweating, belching, and vomiting at extremes − essentially feeling like you're about to die and no one can help you.

Triggers - Hard Liquor / Lack of food or oily foods with alcohol..  though can drink beer with no issueSolution -  Nexium(Esomeprazole Magnesium) as soon as I feel the pinch coming, or you can preempt the attack take 1 tablet and the pain fades away, with 2-5 minutes.  Like others have mentioned their mothers or fathers have been prone to the same symptoms and triggers, as is the case with me. My mother had been to a Dr about it for years and been prescribed these Nexium, they work for her and work for me. Good luck and I hope this works for you

wow! I am so glad others experience this! I'm 24 and drink moderately on the weekends (military, enlisted...it's a way to hang out and unwind with work mates) Before 24 I never drank. I just started about a year ago to go hang out and have a sixer or some wine with pals. I would suddenly get this intense pain in between my shoulder blades. It would wrap over into my shoulders, and then punch me in the sternum/chest area. It was like Satan's crappy back and neck massage...It was and still is intense. I'm a creature of habit and drink the same things...Mimosas, Ciders, Red and White wines...usually every other weekend this will happen and it'll hit for under and hour. Either halfway into this battle of pain i get ill and end up puking in the ladies room, afterwards I feel wondrously better and pay my tab and call a cab...It ruins a lot of social meets (it'll either hit in the beginning of a hangout or in the middle of one), and catches me off guard and is so painful sometimes that it makes me think I may be having a heart attack. What gives? What is this?? No doctor knows what I describe and none can pinpoint it...I've pretty much given up the heavy drink, but it even hits with a bottle or one glass of wine sometimes...It sucks.

It sounds like most everything you drink has sugar in it. After 15 years, I finally found that if I avoid anything that may have sugars, I'm completely fine. I wish my doctor would believe me.

I get this from some wine and most ciders & beer. 2 sips and I'll stop drinking. Some beer is fine so I figure its an allergy to an additive. Same with wine - some is fine. My brother only gets with hard liquor. I've had since 21 and it hasn't changed but it has made me a reluctant drinker so maybe that's a good thing :-)

In regards to the shoulder cramping after alcohol consumption.
I've been studying this and found that sulfates, used to preserve flavors, are making this happen in certain body types.
Organic wines that clearly state 'no sulfates', will not produce this muscle behavior. The sweet sugary alcholpops often have massive amounts in them. Lately some beers are using sulfates as well.
Try the organic and see if it eliminates these issues.

I have the same thing happen to me and have been getting it since I was 23.  I first noticed it once when I tried to drink an energy drink that had 7% alcohol in it.  Super sweet.  It was so bad I had to lay down for almost an hour.  I can't remember the name of the drink. (Joose?)

Second time I noticed was when I went to a party and all they had there was mikes hard lemonade.  Again, sugar mixed with cheap liquor.

It's happened numerous times since over the last 8 years.  I never thought about googling it until tonight.

It happened tonight again when I mixed a cheap vodka with an over sugared kool aid so I'm 100% positive it has to do with the amount of sugar.  I really wish a medical professional would post here having heard about it but maybe no one says anything to their doctors about it because most people don't go to their doctors after they have been drinking.

If I buy middle and top shelf stuff (20+$ a fifth) I don't seem to have this problem (less congeners?) bottom shelf (12$ and under) seems to always happen.
