This may or may not be related, but I have these same symptoms. When I wake up I usually have a bad taste in my mouth which interestingly is caused by having acid reflux disease, and so I'm wondering if that can be linked to the stomach problems as well.

this sick to the stomach feeling of nausea in the morning has been coming and going for pretty much the last 25 years of my life. i think the cause of this differs for everyone, and in my case, it's not always the same reason. there was a period when it was mostly due to stress and depression, which can be aggravated by sleep depravation – i've also had bouts of insomnia.

on a good morning, the nausea usually goes away after abt 1 hour. but most days, i'd be feeling nauseated but can't puke, and i'd have a terrible headache or sometimes stomach cramp. it's an absolutely horrible experience, one that has caused me to miss many classes in my uni days when this was at its peak. (funny thing, that was when i discovered that if i drink the night before – just enough to get a good buzz without the horible puking hangover the next day – i'd usually feel fine the next morning. it's not a good idea but it did help get me to my classes.) i've tried seeing the doctors a few times, but i'm usually fine by the time i get to the doctors so they can't figure out what's wrong. i don't think it's caused by dehydration coz i actually drink quite a lot of water – abt the recommended 8 cups a day, and no, i don't count sodas and coffees, just plain water.

like many of the people here, this 'morning sickness' usually goes away if i wake up later in the day. i spent my breaks keeping vampiric hours, and i'd feel wonderful.

i've decided to stop fighting my natural circadian rhythm, and have taken a job that allows me to come in to work around 11am, and go for lunch an hour or so later (breakfast has never helped and only made the nausea worse when this was happening) the problem has pretty much disappeared for the last 2 years (although it still rears its ugly head on occassions when i'm really, really stressed, or when there's morning meetings).

i guess the point of writing this is to just let you know that there is a way out of it. figure out what's the underlying cause (or causes), and know that everyone's body react differently so you need to find a system or solution that works for you. hydrate your body more, or get treated for stomach acid, or talk to a shrink, or simply just get better sleep. all the best to you in getting over this.

ps: abt the sleep problem, i've tried over-the-counter and prescription pills, herbal teas, exercising and so on, just can't tune it to "normal" clocks. and i do stress on BETTER sleep, not longer than necessary, or sleeping at "normal times" if it's not normal to u. just a nice, solid, uninterupted sleep for 7-8 hours, or whatever suits u. ok, ciao.

I wake up sick to my stomach when I'm going through a lot of stress. This morning I woke at 7 AM feeling sick, and still feel sick at 9:55 AM. Im moving out for the first time and am not sure how to handle it on my own exactly, so this is where my stress is coming from. My advice is to find out what is stressing you out so it can be helped. It's definitely a nervousness issue.

about once a month i wake up sick as a dog. i am 25 going on 26 and its been like this for the past year or 2. i am a pretty healthy person, i eat healthy for the most part (i do sometimes splurge but i dont over do it), i'm at a healthy weight (not over weight, not under weight), i try to exercise at least once a week no matter what it is, i am a smoker (about a 1/2 pk to a pk a day), i have good teeth, i do not drink alcohol (been this way for the past 3 1/2 yrs since i had my daughter - had horrible morning sickness throughout the whole pregnancy [lost 15-20 lbs 1st trimester, ended up in emergency room 2x from dehydration, etc etc etc] so my stomach doesnt tend to handle the alcohol very well hence the reason i dont drink), i do have the Mirena and have had it for the past 3 yrs with no complications that i am aware of, i get headaches quite often BUT none of this is relevant to the reason i wake up sick.....

i can go to bed the night before and feel great but sometime between 4 & 6 am, i wake up and my stomach hurts. i fight the feeling of throwing up for as long as i can. sometimes after i throw up i feel better but not usually. its usually only a day that i feel this way but it seems to be happening more often here recently. i finally decided enough is enough and thought maybe i could look this c**p up online and see what it might be. i did have gastroenteritis back around thanksgiving of 2009 and since then is when all this started happening. i'm not sure if it is related or not but i am so sick and tired of feeling sick. i dont get any kind of tingling or anything like that, just throwing up about once a month or now about 2-3 times a month.....

if anyone can help, that would be great! feeling sick today so going back to bed.....

Hey guys, I've always had this problem I"m 29years old. It is slight dehydration, but Its because my natural clock doesnt want to wake up until 10am. I've tested this theory and its true. I went to a Dr over the problem when I was in College and this is what they told me. Although I dont remember the correct terms. When we sleep our body processes a certain enzyme, and when we wake up early our body is interrupted and thats what causes the sick feeling. We havent finished the process. Unfortunately there really isnt alot to do about this, because I'm not sure there is a way to change your natural clock around. I have tried for years and not success. It doesnt matter how many hours of sleep I get If I wake up before 10am I'm sick the rest of the morning.  I hope this helps, even though I didnt give you a cure :)

Dehydration is actually a very good idea, as the majority of adults are dehydrated and symptoms can be severe but also varied.

I also have this problem. Female, 23, white, don't smoke tobacco, don't drink alcohol, but I do smoke marijuana. My diet is healthy and I exercise regularly. For the past few months I've been waking up very early, between 5-6am, feeling extremely nauseous and usually throw up. I've had bouts of this before over the last few years.

By early afternoon my stomach is growling, but I have no appetite and even thinking about food makes me feel sick to my stomach. Even the lightest things -- plain toast, yogurt, bananas, ginger ale -- make it feel worse. I also feel exhausted all day because I'm not eating enough and my sleeping pattern is different.

I gave up coffee, alcohol, late-night eating, refined sugars... I had a CT and an EKG due to a kidney infection, both normal. I started drinking a lot of water because I thought it was dehydration, which helped, but throwing up regularly causes me to be extremely dehydrated regardless of how much water I drink.

I have attributed my stomach problems to anxiety and stress, and I'm currently keeping a log of the hours I sleep, the food I eat, my general attitude, and anything else of note so that I can track any patterns. Hopefully, if I do this for a few weeks or months, I'll be able to see whether my problem is psychological, physiological, or both.

Best of luck to everyone and please let me know if you have any advice for me!

I use to always wake up feeling feeling sick to my stomach...extremely nauseated. and in horrible pain... so i started tracking what i did on those days differently from the days i was fine..... I realized that the problem only occurred when i ate late at night.... im thinking maybe my body needs to completely digest food before i lay down at night....... everyones body is different but u may have the same problem..... hope this helps u all out

There is a strong possibility that you all have anxiety. I use to go through this every single morning. Waking up ALONE can be hard on your nerves making you sick. TRUST me, this is possible and feels like you have a nasty flu where you can't get it up and out.
