Hi, I was proposed to have my sigmoid colon removed. Is it wise decision? I hope to get relieved from the pain by this operation.
Hi, the sigmoid colon is the last part of colon, just above your rectum. It is S-shaped and named by this. The surgery is necessary for diverticulitis with bleeding and infection. The inflammation of the sacs formed at weak points along bowels. If these sacs rupture they cause inflammation of the lining of your abdominal cavity. In case of cancerous or pre cancerous growths, or polips sigmoid colon removal is needed. This operation is not dangerous, but will certainly take you a lot of time.
i am having my sigmoid removed in 2 weeks it is tortuous and has a 180 degree twist. nervous! 6 weeks recovery, but i won't have pain anymore. good luck
I don't think it is a wise decision. I had mine removed two years ago and now am back to having diverticulitis attacks and antibiotics. I wonder why I bothered. All I got out of it is a hernia on my navel.
I when through the same surgery and got a hernia after the fact a large knot above my stomach.
For a 48 year old male, what would the full recovery time of a partial removal of the colon be?
