My gynecologist recommended me to do some sis saline test. I have never heard for this so I am a little bit worried. I have many friends and most of them had some examinations, but nobody knows what sis saline test is. Can you tell me more about this, because it worries me a lot in past few days? How good this test is, anyway?

Exact name for yours sis saline test is saline infusion sonohysterography, or just SIS. That is a very sensitive ultrasound technique for detecting focal lesions. In this test, doctor uses small volume of saline to distend the uterine cavity in order to improve visualization of your endometrial surface. SIS is a minimally invasive alternative to hysteroscopy and is appropriate for further evaluation. Gynecologists usually recommend SIS with patients who are suspicious for a focal abnormality of no cause for the bleeding. In addition, SIS may be useful when a thickened endometrial line is identifying by TVUS. I guess you are not interested into explanation of TVUS, because that is just one more procedure, similar like SIS. SIS saline test is very good, because it can differentiate between diffuse and focal thickening. In addition, it is possible that the results from ultrasound imaging and biopsy are false. Therefore, doctors usually referred their patients for hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy even after results of endometrial stripe.
