Another side note is that i hear people using ice cream or freezes to soothe the throat. All though cold things are great i HIGHLY discourage ice cream and freezes as they both contain large amounts of sugar. Sugar is favored by bacteria.. the more you give it the more it grows.
so i stay away from it. Drink water.. and eat fruits if you can or vit c supplements. I also heard green tea or black tea discourage the growth of bacteria in the mouth so i drink that too.

I am only 14 years old and I have suffered from sore throats every month sence i was around 8. When I was 8 I got my tonsils and adnoyds(sorry can't spell) taken out. But i still suffer. I also have endometreosis, so i miss a lot of school! :( The doc. always give me the Z pack, which im allergic to. then they accosed me of my bad diet, but i am border line diabetic and eat very well. Then they accused me of lying. I am really sick of all of this! I just want to be healthy! I am going next week to be tested for mono. Something that a did find that helps is gargling 1 tbs of tee tree oil mixed with 1 cup of warm water( well actually hotish)! It tasted horrible, but the pain goes away for a while. :D But if anyone finds out anything PLEASE TELL Me!

I feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one. I have had a sore throat about once or twice a month for the last 3 years! My sore throat usually give me a fever and I feel really sick for 3 or 4 days. Doctors are insensitive jackasses with no good answers. I really need to figure something out, I can't be out of commission for a week out of every month! Did some of you guys who posted a few years ago find any answers?

My son is 18 and was diagonosed with mono 2 years ago and since that time has suffered with numerous throat infections, sore throats and strep throat, it was every couple of weeks. At first they would put him on antibiotics and it would go away a couple of day and then come back, he finally saw and ENT specialist and he decided to remove his tonsils. He just had that done two days ago and the pain he is in is incredible. I hope after he heals that it will have been worth it. By the way, when they removed his tonsils they told us that they were very damaged from all the infections he had and made the operation more challenging. He had never had a throat infection until after he had mono.

Ask your doctors about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. That is what my Dr has said was wrong with me. I get a sore throat and it last for about 3 weeks. I treat it with steroid shots and B12. I give myself B12 shots every 2 weeks. After my sore throat goes away I will feel good for about 2 weeks and BAM it is back again. If anyone has any info or advice on chronic fatigue sydrome please reply

I have had this problem for about 2yrs.... mine seems minor compared to some of the posts above, but I have sore throat that comes back about 6 times pr year. Yes, this is not normal in any way. I have been to one doctor and 2 ent's. The doctor sent me to the ent's and both of them want to cut my tonsils out to fix the problem. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO AN ALLERGIST FIRST! This could be an allergic reaction of some sort so look into that, and most doctors will not cut/ burn tonsils until you do that. Some of you may be allergic to the foods you eat. Who knows? Anyways I have found that lack of sleep gives you soreness, and have always had it under my extremely stressful previous job. You would be suprised what a change in lives could do for you. All symptoms but my tonsils (which has gone down dramatically) have stopped. I had soreness in my legs alot, loss of interest, etc.... This was totally not me, I have been a runner for the past 7 years in school and am currently in the military. That would definitely be a problem for my job! Anyways, I think the best fix would to get your tonsils cut out. If your Doctor doesn't think its a good idea then keep bugging them and be specific, direct, and lay out your problem. ITS THEIR JOBS!!! I hate hearing these doctors who just brush their patients away. This could be because they are the doctor and they see a child / young adult and feel that they're just trying to get out of school... They're not really sick... Again , make sure you are direct with them and lay everything out. Write stuff down if you have to; log your sore throats, do what you've got to do... Anyways, try to stay stress free as much as possible. Yes, I have a stressful job, but have learned to take the problems in but not the stress... Take care of yourself, thanks for reading

Wow, this sucks. I'm 15, and i had mono about 6 months ago. Ever since then, Ive been having problems with my throat. It swells up Almost every month. Its usually accompanied by a low fever, headaches, Sore muscles, or ear pain. I went to the school nurse, and she usually found white puss on it. I was also tested for strep, and I was Negative.
I'm glad Many other people have some what of a similar problem. Hopefully I'll find a cure. I think ill try the caffeine thing too.
I know sugar feeds to the infections, so i'll try to cut back.

I have white things on what i believe are my vocal chords... its gross but i can pick them out and its disgusting.
Lauren
I am sorry to disappoint you but 'the white things' you have are not on your 'vocal chords'. They are your tonsils. How old are you again?
Actually those little white things are Pus meaning an infection

I too have a consistently recurring sore throat. Unfortunately I don't have a cure, but check out the following link. It's an interesting theory - Whatever the cause it sounds like there are a lot of us out there.

Hello,
I also have a sore throat every month.. it started about 2 years ago after my first case of strep throat. They were severe sore throats that came back every month as I'v mentioned above. Over a month ago I got my tonsils removed because they were always large, I missed a lot of school, and when they did enlarge even more pills wouldnt go down my throat... I am not sure if I have ever had mono. After I got them out about 2 weeks later the pain from the surgery went away. About 3 weeks after my surgery the sore throat came back right on time. I went to the doctors and they told me it was all in my head, they looked in my throat and she said she saw nothing wrong. Everything I eat burns and radiates to my ears. Everything I drink burns. They told me to go back to the specialist and the specialish told me they same thing that it is all in my head... I'm going to have blood work done to see if they can find anything else... Wish me luck :} I know how you feel It's frustrating...
