i have had the same "pressure" for a few months now (as someone said before, it isn't painful, just irritating) it does seem to lessen when i drink or smoke, and when I'm away at university it pretty much disappears altogether...interestingly i drink more alcohol and consume much less milk and bread while at university (not sure if this is of any relevance) but the pressure came straight back as soon as I got back home...I'm going to try giving up dairy for a couple of weeks and see if that makes any difference, but i am starting to suspect it may be psychological. If I have any luck i will be sure to inform you guys :)

Try having the doctor check out your spleen to see if it is enlarged. With excessive enlargement of the spleen symptoms like those you have described can occur. Let me know if this helps you.
I have been having the pain since October. It was kidney stones the first few vists to the ER & my urologist. I just had a ureterscopy done on Thursday. It was all clear. I chalked up the pain to recovery, but now I'm thinking it must be something different.
Symptoms are the same as everyone here. WebMD just scares me into thinking the worse. So I'll be calling my doc on Monday.
But a friend found a link that says it could be caused by how you sit at your laptop or pc. Which doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else agree w/ that theory?

i'm 20 yrs old and i've been having symptoms just like this for a few months now too. seen the doctor twice about it but she just seemed to think i was constipated, told me to eat more fibre. i have a pain in my left side, just to the left of my navel, that isn't always there, but comes and goes in sharp bursts whenever and wherever. sometimes it's on my right side too, although more often the left. sometimes the pain is in the middle, just above my navel.
i've noticed my left side feels a lot firmer to the touch (almost hard) than the right side, and it feels to me as if there's something swollen.. but there's no organs there, so what could it be?
i've also been passing a lot of gas and burping more than usual. i'm calling the doctor again tomorrow to try and book an appointment, after putting it off for ages because looking up my symptoms on the internet scared the life out of me and so i buried my head in the sand...

i experience upper left abdominal (stomach) pain every once in a while and it seems to occur for a 1-3 weeks and goes away. this has been going on for over a year now. i am a 21 yr old male. it seems to happen after i consume beer (maybe its the alcohol since the only alcoholic beverages i drink tend to be beer) and also possibly after consuming a lot of orange juice. it is a dull pain and its really only the symptom i experience. ive had ct scan, ultra sound, endoscopy and many blood tests and everything turned up normal. i drank rather often my freshman year in college and never had this pain(probably 3 or 4 times a week, ranging from 3-12 beers on those nights, some nights i would drink rum). i decreased my drinking during the summer and didnt drink much into my sophomore year. i started noticing the pain towards the end of the first semester.
i also started to suffer from a lot of anxiety earlier in the semester(the anxiety was very moderate in HS and got pretty severe up to my junior year). i also feel that i have more stress than the average person. ive always felt like i could cope with my anxiety on my own but i was falling apart and got professional help and was given natural ways to reduce it(which has significantly decreased my anxiety yet i still have some). anyway, some of these posts seem to be tied to anxiety and i think mine may be related also. i dont know if my mind is just playing tricks on me because i will drink one beer and the pain begins.. i wouldnt think that that little amt of alcohol would cause pain but i could be wrong. there is no history of this problem in my family that i am aware of.
sorry this is long but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issues I am a runner and had sever pain in my back last year and finally couldn't take it anymore. I went to the chiropractor and had x-rays. Found a dislocated rib on my left side in my back. I have been getting treatment for almost a year now it is better but now when I run I still get the pain on the left side of my back and seems to go to the front part of my rib cage. I was diangnosed 2 years ago with mild gastritis also. The pain is annoying while running b/c I get alot of gas and it seems as though I hold my breath. I have been working on this but it is very frustrating b/c the back pain and rib cage pain is always there. I have decided that I cannot have any alcohol since it seems to make it worse even 1 drink. If I were you with the rib cage issue check with a local chiropractor who is used to looking for issues within your bone structure. GP's are not trained to look at that. Make sure you ask the doctor if you can look at the x-rays to show you the exact location. Don't give up. I haven't felt a 100% for about 3 years but with all tests, MRI's CAT scans and echocardiograms, blood tests and so on you learn to cope with the issues and move forward. Like I said I am a runner, I am 37 yo and continue running not like when I was younger and am able to run around with my 4.5 yo. If you don't like what you here switch physicians, you know your body so listen to it and don't give up.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear that you had a dislocated rib but hopefully the chiropractor was able to gradually move it back. I'm glad to hear that you at least got the help you needed. Thanks for posting your story!
Any of you guys out there have these abdominal problems and formerly take Accutane?
I am 13 Iam having the same problem, It is quite hard and sore. I do not know what it is or how to fix it.
i was told by one doc it was my intestine tied in a knot however, when mentioning it to another doc she said it was most likely to be a part of stool in the body which is worrying as how did it get there so amazed how many people have had this and yet no sensible answers im21 and had this for over 2 years feels like being pregnant is the only description i can give
hope everyone gets it sorted i am still lookinfor answers
