If I am not mistaking staph infection is spread by contact and if he was having a hand contact with someone who already had staph infection and not washing his hand later could be the cause of an infection. You just have to understand that bacteria can get in to places in many ways. But your concern should now be on the treatment options. Good thing would be to take him to see a doctor and to run some tests to determine the level of the infection. I think that antibiotic ointments are used to get rid of staph infections. The important thing is that this is treatable but he has to pay more attention in the future not to get this again.

Everyone carry's staph. It's a bacteria on our body. If you get cut and don't care for it, you will get staph. It doen't always go where the cut was, it could travel through your blood and come out some where else. Like babys, they get hurt all the time. It happened to one of my own.
