what causes viginal strep infection during pregrancy, how could if effect the baby and what is done to cure it.
About 15-40% or women have the Strep bacteria in their vagina or intestine in low numbers. In pregnancy sometimes the hormonal changes allow a better environment for them to grow and you may become colonised. If you test positive for Strep, antibiotics are usually given during labour to prevent the infection being passed to the baby.
