I have exactly this same thing. Did you figure anything out?
Tennis ball... play some music you like and stretch. This condition is painful. I believe our symptoms are due to our controlled environment. The tennis ball will do trick to relieve some tension.
Mine does almost the same, except it's down towards the bottom of the sternum and xiphoid process. My family can see it poking out of place after it decides to pop out of place and will remain that way for a week. No amount of stretches, muscle relaxers, or tylenol helps. I just avoid any type of lifting and generally rest whenever possible. Something as simple as putting on a shoe will make it pop out or just sitting still and doing nothing, and out it comes. I'm thinking it may have something to do with my Fibromyalgia. My PCP did xrays, and like most everyone here, nothing showed up.
Yes after chiro visit.
I'm not sure about my shoulders, but when throwing a ball around for about an hour, or doing deadlifts/squats and I turn my head mid action (throw or lift) I get a shock type pain from the back of my neck all the way up to the back of my head (around the crown)
I have been having this problem for the last few months now, they only progressed to get worse. Reading up on everyone's replies on this topic I believe, for the most part, it has to do with our sleeping positions and the fact we have a spine problem. Perhaps we have a forum of ankylosis spondylitis, and the sleeping positions we have really isn't helping us out.
I'm not so sure on the sternum cracking part everyone is raving about, but my sternum pain comes usually in the morning and typically when I had my back bent upwards or if I was sleeping on my side. I think if I just stop keeping my back bent with the cushion I put under my back, for support, it might help. Also, I like hugging my stuffed Garfield when sleeping. And he isn't the biggest. So my chest feels little crammed down. Perhaps having something biggest I am holding will ease the tension with my shoulder blades.
A friend of mine says the sternum doesnt have any muscles, is mostly a nerve's paradise. So somehow we are blocking a nerve vein/vessel that makes us have this discomfort and pain.
Don't forget to take Ibuprofen to release the pain! IT REALLY HELPZZZZZZZZZZZZ :D
