It’s called a lymph node

How big is it? What color is it? I had one in the corner of my nose and eye. It had been there for years. It turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma. It was a raised round bump that was skin colored with a translucent whitish cast. I also poked at it but never got anything out of it. Because it was near the eye, it was surgically removed and a skin graft from my other eyelid sewn on it. Never had any further problem.

What sort of bumps? If they’re red, itchy, and only appear on the back of your neck or near your hairline, I would consider checking for lice.
More than likely, however, you have an infection causing your lymph nodes to swell. They would feel hard and primarily deeper under the skin and much larger than, say, acne or lice bites.
