I had the UPPP and experience excessive phlegm...it's so annoying. I have been told it's chronic sinus problems and allergies, none of which I had prior to the surgery.

OMG! I had 7 procedures done 5/23/12 including removing the UVULA, and tonsils. So far, the phlegm, easily choking, etc is constant. If I had known this I would NOT have done the procedure. I kept think it would go away with time. I don't understand why I was not told about this by the ENT.

I had my uvula removed 19 years ago for sleep reasons and now my throat has an arched catheedral like shape to it. I still snore and I think that it has created incurable insomnia for me. I have not slept past 4 AM in 2 years. I wish I had never done the surgery

I had mine removed three years ago. DON'T do it.

I have constant phlegm in the morning to the point it makes me throw up. My wife made me do the surgery and feels horrible for the side affects it has caused.

I have been diagnosed with a Large Uvula and the doctor recommended to trim the uvula (since it is causing choking problems and sleep apnea). I am worried about all the negative comments about the choking and the excessive phlegm build up. Has anyone had a successful surgery for the trimming of the uvula with no complications after a few years? Thank you very much.

Hi I had my surgery in April.  I too sleep GREAT and the snoring significantly minimized.   I have phlem and gag, note choke sometines when I eat.  My concern is that I have some soreness when eating certain foods. Well basically any food that is not a liquid or soft like a pasta. If feels like a scraping and a raw soreness. All of these months later I wonder if this is a problem or just another thing that requires acceptance and adjustment.  I am going to go back to my doctor to have it looked at again but was wondering if anyone else out there had similar problems. Thanks.

I am 4 days out of surgery. My dr and I decided that the septoplasty was needed immediately and that the uvula removal was optional. When he took a peek in my mouth, he decided that it should go. Of course, I am freaking out at this point because I only heard the "bad" info. Pros so far-lost weight, sleep more, getting weighted on~~ha!!....Cons--pain....PAIN, wet, bloody face and did I mention that nauseous feeling?? Maybe in a few days, I will be singing a different tune....would I choose this path?? Ask me in a few weeks....

I'm a 39 year old woman. Had my uvula removed about 6 months ago. I find that my throat area is now smaller and it always feels very tight and dry. I had mine removed to check a spot on it. Feel very blessed it wasn't cancer but the back on my mouth feels like a tight rubber band feeling due to when it healed up the area got tighter.

I had this surgery about 4 years ago. It was painful and I had 3 episodes of post-op bleeding (one landed me in ER). My surgeon said I was his first case of post-op bleeding...he is very experienced. Guess there is a first time for everything! I see several other also share my issue with constant throat-clearing/excess phlem. I am a teacher, so this is a huge issue for me and my students (it is just annoying). But I don't see that anyone posted a solution. Allegy meds? I also have a new sensitivity to spicy foods and also choke easily. Side effects that are a nuisance but I can manage those and Isleep way better :)

Thanks for any help!

I had to have my septum repaired from being crushed 6 years ago...the ENTIRE I went to a the time said they are also removing uvaula to help breathing and sinister issues. To this day I wish I could sue him for malpractice because trusting his judgements the and allowing the removal has dramatically affected my life in negative ways!!!I have more sinus drainage and re-curing sinus infections, horrible gag reflex and constant hoarse and sore throat... and for me the worst part was the dramatic damage it did to my voice!!! I used to be a singer.. everywhere.. I loved to sing..church choir ( which I was asked to leave after my surgery), parties. funerals, weddings..anywhere and everywhere I was asked to perform at!!!! However, since I had it removed my voice has gone from saprano to ..can't even describe the pitch, which is not ever even anymore, to a low and gravelly painful.squawk ..is the best description...it hurts when I sing and my natural vibrato has left me forever... Ican no longer sing or belt out my favorite Gospel songs and can barely get a course out anymore!!!! I also work in a call center and have had several issues trying to do my job the way I used too!!! These changes have caused me much anguish and emotional damage!!!If there was ANY way I could get it back, I would in a heartbeat!! I seriously caution anyone to fully research ALL side affects before going forward with this type of procedure!!!! It can and will alter certain aspects of your live ... for life!!!!!!
