HI, my name is Claire and My boyfriend was diagnosed at the end of August with Oseosarcoma he is 25 and i am 23. Its a very hard thing to come to terms with and he is being so strong, he s just at the end of the first cycle of Chemo and we are waiting for him to have an operation to replace his femur with titanium, doctors think his best chance would be amputation to stop it ever coming back but hes an absolute fighter and i know what ever his decision he with come through this.

Keep Praying

Love Claire

My son was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma on Mother's Day 1994. I don't remember what stage it was, but the tumor had taken over 1/3 of his femur at the knee. We went through what a lot of you have gone through. During his first chem treatment, the tumor visibly grew and yes, it scared us all to death, even his oncologists. They gave him less than a 50% chance of surviving. Over the next year, he underwent numerous chemo treatments for his protocol (we were in the hospital 3 weeks out of 5 every round) except for the break they gave him prior to his surgery.

We were lucky enough for the doctors to recommend the placement of a titanium prosthesis, done by an amazing doctor at UCLA. Dr. Eckhart and his team were absolute angels. The surgery was long and arduous, but it allowed my son to keep his leg and walk on it again. Prior to his surgery, we learned that the chemo killed 99% of his tumor. So between the amazing care we got, the horrible chemo that was pumped into his body, and the surgery, we finished treatment May 1995.

He has now been in remission for 15 years. He works as a restaurant manager and sous chef and is on his feet most of the day. He also works out almost daily, snowboards (we don't share this with his surgeon) and plays golf. He has had his prosthesis lengthened once to make his hips even and make it easier for him to walk.

I truly believe the key to his getting better, along with the excellent medical care we received, was that he always believed he would get better. Yes, he had bouts of depression. He would sleep the entire 5-7 days we were in the hospital, and usually vomitted in the parking lot prior to receiving chemo (he just knew it was coming). The smell of food made him ill, he dropped 60 lbs in 8 weeks, and yes he was bald. But we got through it, and are grateful every day.

After 15 years, I still cry about it from time to time. I feel very blessed that he came out of it. He lives across the country and I miss him every day, but he's now a grown man and doing well in his career.

Have faith, be there, learn to adapt, and you can get through it. He was sick at the same time as 7 other kids (only 1 of which also had bone cancer - we lost her). The moms all became very close, in fact, they had never had that happen before. We lost 4 out of the 8 kids -- it was a very tough year.

A lot can depend on the protocol they put the patient on. I don't know if they still do it as a lottery system, but we were told we got the good one and it seemed to be true.

Cancer sucks. Chemo sucks. The entire thing sucks. But attitude does amazing things for going through the process.

My father has been diagnosied with Metastatic bone carcinoma in the lower lumbar. He started with a begin tumor in his belly, but it had already spreaded to his back by the time they remove it. (I don't understand how it spread, because I read that benign tumors don't spread)And we didn't find out until afterwards. He had the option for surgery to remove his tail bone, but he declined. He has had radiation and it made it worse. It has spread to his lungs. He can not stand, walk or do anything for himself unless it involves hand movement. He is doing chemo as of now, but I am really worried about his survival rate. Cannot find any info. on carcinoma in the lower lumbar region. If it has spreaded to his lungs does it mean he does not have much time left with us? Can you help me find more info. on this topic. Please.

Sincerley,

Desperate :'(

My Grandfather was diagnosed with bone cancer today. They believe it's in his left shoulder, lungs, and spine. They didn't do a full body scan just waist up. I'm terrified. I've been crying all day. I have no idea what to expect. Each cancer seems to but a little different. He says he's not going to do chemo because it made him sick when he took chemo for prostate cancer. However he will do radiation. I don't know much about either or if one is better than the other. I just really needed some support I guess. Don't know if anyone is going to read this or respond but at least I feel like I'm talking to someone that can relate and is trying to stay in high hopes and praying for their loved one. My heart goes out to all the cancer patients and their family and loved ones. I believe that my Grandpa is too strong mentally to let his cancer defeat right now and I know I need to stay positive and try to keep him positive as well. So keep your head up and stand strong. No one is in their battle alone. ~Autumn, Ohio

In 97 when I was 32 I was diagnose with bone cancer in my left femur. An allograph presevered the limb. In 06 I had breast mets. Did chemo and radiation theraphy.

Now in Dec-10 I have a hot spot on my rib and a leision on my left breast that "appears begign" after tests. It's hard for me to believe it's begign and they want to repeat tests in 6 months. I have central pain throughout my body they are contributing to hypothyriodism and fibromeyalgia. Both of which I blame chemo for.

I am 45 years old. I live healthy and get my annual check ups. Early detection is the key to survival with cancer. If you feel something is wrong go get checked.

my mom has been diagnosed with breast and bone cancer. she is in the last stages of her life she is 47. & they gave her 2 months to live in october of 2010. she is still alive 7 months. there isnt a set time and doctors cant tell you when you are going to die. only God knows. you just have to believe in him and have faith. my mom has shrunk 4 inches she is now 4'6, because of the bone cancer. her blood count was 45,000 when she first went to the doctor. they said if she wouldnt have came that night she would have passed away in her sleep that night. her blood count is now a lil over 140,000 which is starting to get back to normal. I am 15 and a sophomore, and the doctors told me last week they do not think there is a chance of her making it to my graduation. and she doesnt either..

My boyfrend told me that he has bone cancer, he would like to be alone with that. I'm really scary because he doesen't want any help. If someone could send me any x-ray photos or MRI, CT. I would like to comepere something, I'm studing medicine and in my humble opinion it's not a tumor but many small cystis. I need to talk to someone about that. Please help me !!

ONE MORE IMPOTANT THING TO KNOW IS `DON'T EVER DO BIOPSY' IF IT STILL WASN'T LATE. IT ONLY WILL MAKE THE MATTER DEADLY WORSE. EVERY MEDICAL PERSON KNOW THAT.
