Hello. I'm 45 year old female and I would like to discuss one problem with people who maybe have more experience with this then I do.
You see, about two weeks ago a good friend told me that my eyes were a bit swollen and that I should check it out. At that time I thought he is exaggerating because I didn’t notice it.
But, after few days, I have also noticed that my eyes are a bit reddish and swollen. I really don’t know what could be the cause and I'm just afraid that it could be something serious. I don’t work any more that I worked before and I sleep normally so I doubt it could be from tiredness- although I look as I'm constantly tired. Please tell me what could be the cause and optional treatment?
Hello. First, I want to tell you that you are not alone with this problem because I have recognized almost all your symptoms. I also had the same problems and I have contacted my GP over this. He told me that, beside tiredness which is the most common cause, several other things could cause these symptoms.
He told me that it could be normal sign of aging because, as we age, the fragile skin around our eye start to lose its elasticity, and the lymphatic drainage system, which helps to keep the area voided of excess fluids, loses it proper functioning. Nutrition can also play a part because in the absence of vitamin C, the body cannot produce collagen which straightens up the skin. You should also know that fluid retention or even some thyroid problem can be a major cause of this problem, so, you might want to talk with your general practitioner about this.
