Within the past 3 or 4 weeks I have had a strange thing happen. My temples swell as does the area under my eyes. This usually occurs when I am eating, although it doesn’t happen every time. I am really confused because I don’t know what I could do to provoke such a reaction. Did anyone have similar symptom?
I had something like you, but when I say my temples were swollen, I mean that is not the muscle attached to my upper jaw. I mean that it is the actual temple area that swells. It also extended back slightly over my ears. The swelling usually were accompanied by a mild to severe headache in the temple side of head area. I had a CT scan a couple of weeks ago and it showed anything. The doctor didn't seem too worried about it, but that was frustrating me. I don't know if this could be a sinus infection symptom, migraine, or food allergy. I was thinking it could be eye strain from using computers 12-14 hours a day, or a dental related problem. Anyway, doctors seem not to know what it could be, because still I have any logical reason or diagnose why this happened to me.
I also have a left side swollen temple i do not know what it is Doctor's have done MRI, CT of the Head and nothing it doesn't hurt sometimes I get a small headache nothing big. I also have a lot of muscle pain all over sometime I get pain in my upper back that lasts one week or pain in both eyes I still don't know what I have. And all this start it after I had my second child. I'm only 35.
I have really been bothered by swelling in my temples recently, But only when I eat and chew with force. It has actually been getting really bad lately to the point people will ask what is worng with my head (It swells like 1/2"). I will be going to a doctor this week but if anyone has comments please e-mail me -

I've had this same problem on and off for about eight months now. I've noticed it most when taking workout supplements, like nitrix (nitric oxide), or n.o. explode or creatine. The swelling for me is brought on by muscle pump in my temples...associated with the muscles on the side of my head used for chewing. My head swells up in the temple area after eating. When I get off of the supplements, the swelling seems to go away. Just wondering if anybody else was taking workout supplements like me....this could be the cause of it.
It's really amazing to see that I'm not alone with this swollen temple thing.
I talked to my family doctor about my temporil muscles swelling after I eat and he said it was nothing, but this is really bothering me because it looks very abnormal.
I've dicided to get a second opinion because I wouldn't want anything more serious happening to me.
No one knows your body than you. If something is not right, you should get it checked out.

the same thing happens to me, i only noticed it start happening about a month ago and it happens near enough everytime i eat a substantial amount, i'm not overly worried as the swelling goes down after a couple of minutes but it was slightly disturbing at first because it looked so weird
I have had problems with my temples for the past 3 years. I have had all the scans tests etc. but no explanation as to what the cause could be. My doc wants to inject botox to prevent the muscles from working - I don't want to do that. This is extremely painfull and the only relief that I get is from prayer as well as dry needling. Any other suggestions from anyone?
A few months ago I started to notice my temples swelling when I ate hard stuff like chips or big meals. It looks freaky and my kids brought it to my attention. I was worried but, I guess I'm not the only one.
ey guys. ye i have a similar problem, when i eat hard and solid foods and i chew quite hard i notice both sides of my head swell up near the temple. Im not sure why, though I'm not too worried as I've found out that quite alot of people suffer from this. So try not to worry, just dont chew tough foods in public. lol...
I was referred to the hospital by my dentist because I also get swollen temples when eating. I had my appointment yesterday. Basically the doctor told me it's quite rare and it happens when the muscles in your temples build up too much and protrude (just like body builders with muscly arms). I did change my diet a year ago and start eating more nuts, seeds and museli, I also chew gum a lot, so basically I've excercised the muscles too much. He did say some people have surgery to fix this, but he doesn't recommned it. He also said about injecting a toxic substance (like botox I guess) into my temples, he recommended this option which I will have in Dec. Apparently you should be able to carry on with the day as normal after the injections. He also said it might be good to stay away from hard food for a while as the injections don't work for everyone. I definately won't be eating in public until then.
I have had a problem with swollen temples while I am eating. For some reason chewing cause this to occur. It seems to have gotten worse in that the duration is longer after eating. Anyone found answers to this.

Same problem here. It can be rather embarrasing... I've only noticed this in the last few months or so.
