Hello everyone, first time at your forums and I'm looking for your advice. I have never done any running in my life, I used to play baseball (and even then I was slow when it came to running the bases) but had to give it up because of my knees. I suffer from something called patellofemoral pain syndrome which causes my knees to pop and buckle and also gives me pain. I am a weight lifter but for a long time I only worked on my upper body and so my legs are weaker than my arms, I have begun to working out with my legs too now in order to cure my knee problem. So, I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me any reasonable advice on what kind of goals should I set as a 5'10, 16 year old, 175lb guy with the previously mentioned situations. If it's too much to speculate I apologize, just wanted to give as much info as possible, I appreciate your help.
First of all, listen to your body. You are young and still developing and you don't want to do any permanent damage. Start out jogging and ease into a run. If you feel pain at any time, stop. Start a stretching and exercise routine to help as well. It's hard to say what your goals should be or where you should be at. Try running 5 miles a week (maybe two 2 mile runs and a 1 mile run). See how your knees / body feel and then increase / decrease from there. Bottom line, take it slow and be careful.
