8-| Hey you all I too had total thyroid removal will be 2 months in three days, I really haven't had any more exhaustion than I had before, I have been hungry all the time, even my ususal hobbies and activities don't seem to cuyrb the hunger, I've seen all the stories about gaining weight, I can't afford this, as I need to have knee surgery this coming year, I did have a couple problems after the surgery though, I had to have blood drained from the incision after my relaease from the hospital, and it looks like I have what's called a contracture, i can't lift my neck too far upward, side to side is better but limited more on one side. the doc may have made it too tight, I have to wait 6 months and if it doesn't get better on it's own then he'll have to fix it. The doc has been really great at listening to me and checking all my T's..I really don't see the difference taking the levoxyl than I was before, once in a while I get really tired, but I was doing that before, as long as you remember to take your thyroid med and calcium every day it seems to help. But one thing I haven't read anywhere is I was denied life insurance due to thyroid removal by a company that claims everyone is accepted. So it's another thing for you all to think about, I'm going to keep looking for a company that will accept me that I can afford. Best of luck to you all

I am having Thyroid surgery on Nov. 15th 2010. I had a large mass that was 5.6 cm on the right side which they will be removing as well. Right now only one thyroid is gonna be removed and sent down to pathology to see if cancer...if not that will be it. I am scared to death. Having second thoughts about it.

Not sure if you had your surgery or not, my large mass was much larger than the 5mm they thought it was and they found others on the "good" side so for me it was a good thing they took it all out, I still feel pretty much the same as the last post. Will post more in depth next time.

I'm having total thyroid removal on 11/29/10. There is a 7mm nodule on the right and 4mm and three smaller on the left. I was glad to read about one positive outcome. I'm 63 years old and look forward to feeling better. Is there someone around my age that will reply to this message ?

I had the thyroid surgery on the 15th. Only one thyroid had to be removed and a large mass the size of a baseball was removed as well. Surgery went well. Had a little trouble breathing when I first woke up in recovery but after that have done great. Only needed 1 pain pill and am doing wonderful. The draining tube was removed the day I came home from the hospital and that hurt a little bit being pulled out but other than that it was not as bad as I expected. Eating soft foods is best for a few days and chew all your food up good and slowly. I had a great Dr who done a great job...cause I have heard other people that have had so much trouble but I didnt. I had a lot of people praying for me too. I can already tell a difference and feel much better since my thyroid has been removed.

Had two surgeries over two years to completely remove my thyroid gland, last surgery being a few months after having my third child. They said that i had a lump that was cancerous.Since then i feel depressed. My PMS and periods are rough.Body aches and mood swings are normal.Wish that there was some herbal alternatives.I also get heart palpitations when i dont take meds on time. Trusting God helps me through the rough times. I try to explain to others how i feel but dont think they understand what i am going through. If the same has happened to you you are not alone.

Hello I have had problems with mutiple nudules on all my thryoids. The one on my right side it the worst of them all. It looks like I have a adams apple. I'll admit I'm scared. I'm going to surgery real soon. I have a little girl that doesn't even know that i'm have surgery soon. She just thinks I'm going on Vacation. If any one else has had the surgery could you please walk me threw it. I'm one of those people you needs to know the details on things. So Ican come to better grips on this.

Angel, i had my left thyroid removed in 2006 for a growth which turned out to be cancerous. They said that most growths are not cancerous.i never got any pain before. They told me to remove the other side in 2008 and i did.i had a newborn who i had to stop breast feeding because i am on thyroxine hormone for life.when i had one half i did not feel differently but when i removed the other i started to have a rough menstruation, mood swings, and some times body aches. When i dont take the hormone on time my heart palpitates.

The surgeries went well .they put you under anaestetic and it does not take very long.you may have a lateral incision a few inches long at the base of your neck. dont eat anything the night before surgery. after surgery, dont let the incision get wet cause it will take longer to heal on the outside.after surgery you should try not to speak much for the first few weeks and eat soft foods and sip liquids.your voice may be hoarse for a while. Get plenty of rest and help with lifting your child and caring for her. i have three kids so i know how it is. dont lift anything heavy.be patient with the healing process.
i hope all goes well with yours. i am praying for you. i hope that you just have to take out one side because you may not have to take meds.

I"m 55 I had my thyroid removed in August of last year 2010 other than having days where out of no where I am tired I've not felt much different at all. In the beginning I had all kinds of things going on, I still have little neck extension, but have to go back in March as they can't do anything to fix it for 6 months, it's better than it was, he may have to loosen it up, but healthwise I'm feeling the same, be sure to take your calcium as it can make a big difference in the way you feel. I wish you the very best.

Sorry folks but forgot this was my post, as you can see by my response to dhigginbothom, I'm doing well in my response to my surgery, in the end it was the best thing, It took me a bit to get on a good schedule of taking the Levoxyl but doing ok now, they only things I need to address are a slight change in vision still, now that the holidays are over should be a done deal soon, and I have been a little bit forgetful ( short term thing) guess I've been repeating myself according to my family. but I've lost some weight which I needed to anyway, not sure if it's a result of the meds or removal but can't drink anymore, I get nauseous about halfway through first glass, but I wanted to tell anyone whom it may help I'm doing ok, better than before I had it out.. :D

hello. im a 24 year old man. Fit and healthy. that was until i was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma. i had a total thyroidectomy. the surgery was not bad. it only took 2 and a half hours and i was released that day. the drainage tube and bag were uncomfortable, but wasn't painful. its been a month since the surgery and i hate to say it but i have some symptoms. nausea, fatigue, headaches, shaky hands, loss of short term memory, sweats, and i get cold a lot. no mood swings yet. Also no depression or weight gain. Although my skinny butt could use some weight on it. lol. i believe these symptoms will be somewhat manageable, but im not sure if i will be able to go back to the person i was. at-least not completely. im going to hold my head up high and live my life since i still have one. All of you should do the same. Good luck to you all.
