I wish it was that simple. My daughter had her thyroid removed at the age of 28. It has been a nightmare ever since. The surgeon damaged one or both of her parathyroids causing a cycle of low calcium, low potassium, headaches, tiredness, etc. She has had two seizures due to low calcium, one with her two small children in the car while she was driving. Her body is not absorbing the calcium like it should even though she takes an enormous amount daily. It infuriates me that she has to live the rest of her life like this.

you have to make sure you have a specialist in this field don't go to just any surgeon. The weight gain and achniess are from not enough thyroid medication and also the use of synthetic thyroid. I am on armour and it makes all the difference in the world. Most drs don't like armour because it is hard to get the lab levels just right. My doctor said he does not care so much about the lab levels but how I feel. He has saved my life.

Hi there, i had a thyroidectomy june 4th, it only took me around 5 days to get back on my feet, it hurt a lot honestly took a lot of pain medication but after the secong day i was feeling a lot better. Before surgery my thyroids were working just fine i just had lots of nodules. i'm going on thyroid meds tomorrow, i feel normal though. i hope the meds work and keep me balanced, but honestly i feel no change at all. i'm not tired, dont feel weak or depressed. i've lost a few pounds but think thats just bc of recovery lol. well hope this helps :)

Hey, im 16 and just had surgery yesterday, I had my right side of my thyroid removed. im back home and the only problems ive had is a sore stiff neck, also slight numbness and swelling, but if you take the meds supplied, youll do fine. Also its hard to lay down and get up, use several pillows to support your neck. Dont worry, youll be ohkay, just keep a bright outlook:)

Considering thyroid removal due to still having problems, it's now causing eyes to bulge and double vision. Originally diagnosed as hyperthyroidism. Was allergic to first medication and the second medication, still itches and TSH is better but still a bit high!
