I have this hashi-motto's thyroidism. I am full of life one day and the next could fall asleep standing up. Recently had another ultrasound done and the tech says to me you have a nasty thyroid. Showed me all the bumps and lumps etc then showed me hers which was smooth. I am tired of being tired and am thinking about asking for a second opinion and seeing about getting it taken out. I am already on thyroid meds and have been for 6 years. IS it worth getiing it taken out or is there something else I can do

Since then I've had radiactive iodine treatments and been put on so many different meds over the years.
Been told I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, .its been awful. I've never gotten my energy back!
Now I'm 62 and feel like my life is almost over!
If I have any advice it would be to do your research and keep trying to find an answer so you live a better life. Find a good Dr. who listens and keep going until you are better.

I've had my medication levels changed 4 times since my surgery 7 years ago. the first dosage I was kept on for 6 years untill my knees started becoming too painful to live with. After lab tests were done the Dr. decided to up my dosage. Within a few weeks my knee pain was gone and I began to feel a bit more normal.Since then I have had it reduced twice and have not felt my normal self for almost a year. The new dosage started 8 weeks ago started to make me feel better but I still don't feel 100%..Advice......follow what YOU feel your body is telling you.My Dr's. assistant told me that the conditions I was detailing to her were probably coincidental or perhaps I needed to see a cardiologist or skin dr for rashes that had appeared.(before she got my test results from the lab). When lab results were recieved I got a call changing my med levels. Dr's. don't know everything about you. You do. I came to talk about MY experience because it is rare to find a Male who I can compare experiences with concerning my Thyroid. Most comments are made by females and I'm not sure that many men know of this glands importance or effects on their health. So from a man that has been though it ladies....I understand your pain too. Thanks for letting me share.Any advice would be appreciated. Since my surgery my family life has been disrupted and turned upside down and my life in general has felt like a downward spiral. Any Guys out there been through this?

I had a complete Thyroidectomy in July 2011. Then I had some lymph Tumours removed. The Tumour I had removed re my Thyroid was wrapped around my left ear and was 8cm long. The recovery was quite long. I was a keen golfer, however I was unable to play due to swollen and very painful hands. I was very low in energy and depressed. Then I started investigation medication and discovered Levothyroxine was not all it was cracked up to be. It is only part of what I needed. After some investigation I found whole Thyroid and a Doctor who also did blood tests for vitamins and minerals. Wow what a difference, after graduated tests for the right dosage of whole Thyroid I am feeling great. I exercise every day(Exercycle,Qigong,5 Tibetan Rites, have a good diet and I am at my optimum weight. I feel great and life is good. I am a 69 year old male.
