I have the same type of condition where my fingers swell, are red, and harden, crack, and bleed, and was prescribed steroid cream thinking it was some kind of eczema, psoriasis, or contact dermatitis. My hands were constantly in water from my profession to cooking at home. I think it is fungus related because fungi thrive in humid areas, moreover if you can't get the right anti fungal it will stay and never leave. I got an all natural and vegan anti fungal, antiseptic, and antibacterial cream from Whole Foods named Skinbiotics Treatment Crème from dermale and as soon as I put this on my hands felt instantly better and didn't even itch or burn. I am on day two of my treatment and my hands look close to normal. It might not be the right cure for all but for me it seems like I'm in the right direction. If you haven't considered it to be fungus yet try an anti fungal and keep your hands dry and clean...!! Also if your immune system is down the fungi will thrive in your body.

seems like Eczema to me

Eczema comes in many forms. But the different types of eczema tend to cause these symptoms:

Itching. The itching can be intense. The damage to the skin during eczema is often due to scratching.

Scaling. The surface of the skin can flake off, giving the skin a rough, scaly appearance.

Redness. The affected skin may bleed and appear blotchy.

Fluid-filled blisters. These can ooze and form crusts.

Cracking. Severely affected skin may develop painful, deep cracks, also called fissures.

Depending on the cause, eczema may flare up and cause severe symptoms. But it can also become a chronic problem with less intense symptoms.

but idk just seems sorta like it

It is not eczema. I thought it was at first but it is not. I was prescribed Clobetasol which if it was eczema should make it better but it was like a burning feeling like everything else I tried to put on there...!! Moreover it didn't work...!! Now my hands are almost healed with this anti fungal / antibacterial / antiviral crème, I applied it for a week and will definitively post to let people know if it worked !!

It happens with me but more prevalent when I eat grains & find it food related (my kids are similiar). I am not sure whether it is the grains or the fungicides & pesticides that come with the grains & flour that cause the problems. I find colloidal minerals lessen the severity of it (taken orally & also put on the skin) and currently am also cleansing my body of fluoride buildup (via boron) which also seems to help. I also find zinc reduces the redness of it.

Hi,

My son is 8 yrs old, have same peeling problem on fingers, it starts with small white circles.

for yrs he is having episodes of peeling skin on fingers. I believe this is type of allergy or Eczema,

usually triggered by changing weather and closely related to his chronic tonsils, which causes bronchial

Asthama time to time, specially when weather changes, more specifically twice a year, around

April/May and later in October/November. Another sign I observe, that skin problems are related

to cough/Asthama, is that whenever my son have Asthamatic cough for few days, this cough is

accompanied with small prickly-heat like allergy on his hands or his cheeks, but the colour of Allergy

is usually of the colour of skin itself. Now he is having coughs again and this time his skin is peeling

from fingers.

Well first off I just want to say thank you to everyone who has posted.  I am sorry we are all having this unsightly condition happening to our hands.  It is so embarrassing to me, my hands appear like I sit and pick at them all day long when really and truly the skin basically dies so I have to pull it off because it HURTS.  Mine started on my feet about one year ago.  It now affects my hands and feet.  I have not been to a dermatologist and when I showed my GP she just of course said "I don't know we will have to send you to a dermatologist".  Money does not grow on trees and I am so thankful I didn't go because it sounds to me like the dermo's don't know either.  I am going to start the tumeric and vicks method on Friday which is in two days.  I will let you know how it goes.  I didn't go into detail on my symptoms because they are exactly like everyone has already posted.  I will say I do wear latex free gloves over and over all day, wash my hands frequently as I am in healthcare.  Lotions help for the first 5 minutes or so after I apply them but once soaked into the skin my hands and feet look exactly the same.  I hope we can put our heads together and figure this out.  Bless you all!<3

My fingers stooped peeling & cracking, & hurting,....!! It wasn't eczema nor a fungus nor a virus nor a bacteria....!! I haven't been to the doctor but I think it has something to do with deficiencies....!! I have been a vegan for a year and on top of this I barely drink because I am never thirsty....! However I used to drink many energy drinks a day and I think that the caffeine in it was causing deficiencies and also was creating kidney problems which were not really getting flushed with the small amount of fluid I was drinking....!! Now I stopped all energy drinks and my fingers never peeled nor cracked again.....!!  Hope this helps someone because it helped my life....:).

This happens to me when I eat apples, so I believe it is an allergic reaction. I had not had this issue for several years, and the other day I ate an apple pie and within 48 hours m finger starting to peel. Let me know if there are any particular food you eat that make this happen.

I have had this same issue. I wear gloves when cleaning and it seems to be worse after I take the gloves off. After changing from latex to vinyl it still didn't make a difference. Went to the doctor and he also checked the bottom of the feet; soles, heels and bottom of toes and found very dry flaky skin there also. It is a fungal infection. I have been using anti-fungal creams for the last two weeks. It has been getting much better. It takes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to clear up. Please ask your doctor....it is a very simple diagnosis. There is also an oral anti-fungal that you can take if it doesn't clear up with the creams. Hope this helps you.

This is so crazy because the same thing is happening to me. Did you ever get any answers on what it is? The best guess I can come up with right now is Scleroderma, but I don't want to be one of those people trying to tell my doctor how to do their job cause I "read something on the internet". I just can't find any real clear answers that lead me anywhere. My next best guess is to just try to go see a rheumatologist if I can get one to see me without a referral. Something is causing this though. I'm a 35 year old female and I also have no other health problems that I'm aware of, but this is just not normal. My fingertips feel like leather and I no longer have any fine sensation. This just occurred out of the blue going on a year ago. About every other week or so they will peel and then harden and become leathery and then peel again. It's like what someone else described as what guitar player's fingers are like, except that I never play the guitar or do anything like that. My doctor has looked and it is definitely not a fungal infection. I do type a lot, but what makes my fingertips any different than anyone else who sits at a computer all day? I have to figure something out because this is driving me crazy! If anyone has any information, please let me know!

I think it is internal like an allergy to food or something we touch.....can't quite figure it out. I don't have health insurance right now but if you do I would suggest you to do allergy tests or deficiency tests like vitamin, mineral deficiencies....!! Ask your doctor about them.....!! All the lotions, cream, ointments, won't make a difference if it is an internal thing.....!!

I too have been experiencing numbness and peeling on my fingertips; however, first my fingertips feel numb and tingly, then what seems like a blood blister appears, only it is dried up under the skin. Then several layers of skin begin to peel away beginning at the dried blister spot. The fingers affected are the pinkie and the ring finger on both hands but never more than one finger at a time thus far.

This is the first post that I have come across that have confirmed my suspicions for my peeling fingertips. Probably the last 7 years since late high school my fingertips have been peeling at different time intervals. The peel some times twice in one month or they can go for many months in between cases. I have been to many doctors and dermatologist and they have said that it could be eczema or allergies but they had no clue and there remedies were completely ineffective. As a child my fingertips were peeling really bad and my mother had no clue why. We tried all kinds of lotions and it kept getting worse, probably peeling halfway down my fingers. I finally got to a doctor and he he said right away that I had strep throat, which is very similar to scarlet fever. I apparently had step throat for a while and my only symptom was the peeling finger tips. There have been at least a couple of times when my fingers were peeling that I went and had a strep test which came out negative. I have always had my suspicion that the strep had something to do with it but this is the first time someone else has had the same reason.
