I too have little dry bumps that quickly begin to peel. Mine are not constant. In fact, it has been several years since the last time I saw them. And this time, they are not just isolated to my finger tips. Actually, I only have a couple of the peeling areas on one of my finger tips; the main site is on the palm side of the webbing between my thumb and index spreading toward the middle of my palm. They do not hurt, my skin is not especially tender underneath, just softer and smoother, like after you use an exfoliating scrub. The bumps start off looking just like tiny raised bumps with no fluid or color, except slightly whitish like dead skin. Then once they begin to peel the middle is the first to go, making it look like a little ring of dry skin. After several of them do this then they just make it look like the skins peeling from a sunburn, minus the red or pink color. My mom has suggested dehydration or annemia. I have read that siphilus has a symptom that involves weird skin first on the fingers then the palms. Has anyone been able to confirm a diagnosis for this?

I'm 14 and I this often happens to me when I get sick. They just feel a little sore so I don't do anything about it. It also happens is hot weather, maybe it is something to do with sweat?

Hi, I seem to have the same problem as yours. I have seen doctors and trying different lotions and creams. They don't help.
One surprising encountered 3 months back was that I had chicken pox and all the skins problem reduced and disappeared in my first month of chicken pox. But they return and worse after the second month.
Now, my GP is recommending me to see a skin specialist and will be seeing him soon.
Hope some cures can come up.

FISH OIL!!!

I am going to try it today!

I have bad skins peeling on my fingers, palms and toes.

Three months ago, I had chicken pox. During the first month, my skins problem reduced and disappeared. But it returns after one month.

I keep trying to think what had changed during the first month period of chicken pox. Maybe, no stress from work (medical leave for 3 weeks). Maybe, diet. I had only fish porridge every day for my first month...

I am going to try FISH OIL. Fish porridge every day might make me more sick...

I am struggling for an answer similar to yours. I have only finger tips that soak water up easily, and turn white. The skin does not hurt when peeling. I peel the white sink to relieve the pressure. It has been like this since 2008 and continues. In the beginning it was at its worst. It would bleed when I would peel, but the pressure was too much and I play guitar for my part time job....so used medical tape to keep the fingers from bleeding while I played. I want to mention that it was on every finger in 2008. I have seen pictures via the internet that point towards ...Lupus? Or Ehlers-Danlos Sydrome to explain the symptom. However, thought it has improved (not bleeding when peeling) it has not gone away either. No one seems to be able to caught it. It is not bacteria, or fungi. I bleached my finger tips for 30seconds in 2008 thinking that I had a fungi, but it just continued. The search is on for me. Doctors, and more.

I think that there is a correlation with sickness as well. I recently had sinus surgery. two weeks later, i caught nasty cold/flue with muscle aches and jaw pain which almost took me 2weeks to get better. and right after that I noticed my hand started to peel just like everyone else (no pain, air bubble that gets worsen with contact of water, no itch). This is my 3rd week having this and it had spread to palm. ill keep you guys updated.

After researching this for quite some time, I've come to the conclusion that I may have keratolysis exfoliativa. I reflect almost every symptom other posters here are expressing (ex: painless, non-itchy skin peeling on fingertips and in some spots the webbing of my fingers, abnormal water absorption, slightly pinker and tender skin beneath peeling, etc.), but I have not had not been notably ill recently; on the contrary, I very rarely get more than light sniffles (which I have all the time, having untreated allergies).
This is the first time this has affected me, beginning about two weeks ago. I thought at first I had calluses peeling from my fingertips because about a month ago I stopped a cleaning job I had had that involved lots of heavy scrubbing in grooves and things, which would put heavy wear in the same areas. It began on my right hand (I'm right handed) on the tip of my middle finger, soon spreading to my index and ring fingers, at which point the peeling had spread from the fingertip to midway between my middle finger's first and second knuckles. As I was beginning to be concerned, I noticed my my middle and ring fingers beginning to peel on my left hand. As I'm typing now, it's spread no lower than my second knuckle on any finger but is beginning to affect my thumbs as well.
I don't know if it is related, but I've had some mild worry about the web of skin from my right pointer and middle finger, where for some weeks or months now (I don't recall when it began, no sooner than four months ago) a small area of skin began to peel. There was no pain or tenderness, so I just used Neutrogena hand cream to soften it when I thought about it. The peeling has never stopped, but has never gotten any worse. The same small area continues to peel, each and every time a new patch of skin would be revealed another layer of dead and dry skin appears instead. The skin has begun to look something akin to an inverted dry and cracked knuckle.
I've never taken great care to watch my diet, on the contrary when I'm stressed (very potentially connected, as I have been lately) I often forget to eat meals for days at a time. Today is Thursday, and I did not eat anything last Friday to Sunday, then again on Monday evening to Tuesday morning, and again from Wednesday morning to present: I think three or four meals this week? I include this note as some suggested that diet may be involved.
I wish I had anymore more to contribute that could be of any use, but I will be sure to follow up with anything that could be helpful.
edit: I have no idea why, but  my font changed half way through the article?

Since I last visited this blog some 6-8 weeks ago, I began - after some research - taking Curcumin. Some may know what this is, but for those who don't, Curcumin is extracted from Turmeric - used in many curries and the like. It is very yellow and is used frequently for colouring food. I began taking two capsules twice a day, and after about four weeks found that the inflammation of my hands had reduced drastically. It wasn't completely gone, but the redness was much less and the peeling had virtually disappeared although not altogether.
According to internet sources, it is important to take the extract with peperine, an component of black pepper. It seems that the latter improves the uptake of the Curcumin. The capsules that I bought from SOLAL contains the perine as well.
I also tried to ingest a relatively suitable quantity of turmeric. However, I only managed it a few times mixed into scrabbled eggs - it was too unpalatable. Also as a tea (with some black pepper) it made inflamed hands a preferable option. (I used a coffee filter for this purpose, and because of its strong colour, was exceedingly messy and tedious.)
Due to stress, I have had another bout of skin peeling during the last week, but at a much reduced level than before.
Remember you need to take the curcumin for at least 4 weeks before it shows any results.
Hope this is of some help.

I have exactly what you describe. You mention the clorox wipes...clorox is bleach and I've been thinking it's from the computer/printing paper at my office. Computer paper is made white by bleach!

My fingertip skin is over and over, dying off. It hardens, like a scar, is dead, numb, Im unable to feel anything, Its like a coating of super glue is on the finger, just the tip, or last phalangie containing the nail. My nails now will not grow, and break off at the shortest spot. This all started a year ago when while taking a shower, in floresent military barracks, My finger tips looked white, clear, translucent. But it was not until 4 or so months ago that this peeling, hardening and cycle began and it will not stop. After the thick dead shin comes off, its very tender, down thru the dermis, and to blood at times, then it all repeats about every 2 weeks. I cannot take showers but when I absolutely have too, as I getting my fingers wet, makes them look as if I have been dead in the river for weeks! Its insane. No new meds, soaps, creams, lotions etc. I wear gloves now even for windex. I wonder if its systemic or actually from last years use of clorox wipes at the office. Has anyone found a cause? As creams, oils and all are just a relief form, not a cause for a real cure.

Hi,
I left a reply about three months agos about my peeling fingers and have since followed this thread to see what others are saying. I have had this peeling fingertip skin 'syndrome for probably 12 to 15 years now so all I can say is once it starts it is a long battle. There are times I seem in remission for several months until for no seeming reason it starts all over again!
Any way I find it interesting that you mentioned clorex! In all these replies no one has mentioned clorox although I have wondered myself if my use of clorox for disinfecting purposes around the house has sometimes not been the culprit. I couldn't say for sure but it seems that over the years after I have done alot of cleaning in the house, my fingers in a few days to a week or so will start the dreadful peeling process all over again. I still thing mine if an autoimmune problem but could be triggered by clorox or something. I mentioned 3 months ago the only thing that seems to help is to take fish oil tablets and that seems to work but only after being on them a month or so will I start noticing a difference. Let me know if you figure out that clorox is the culprit, I am very interested.
