The odds, when everything is "perfect" are about 1 in 5.
You need to wait at least two weeks after having sex, preferably three, before testing. It takes some time for the level of hormone, hCG, the tests look for to rise high enough to be detected.
It may just be easier to wait for your period. If it is late, test. Use your first morning - wakeup - urine. It's more concentrated (darker) so more likely to give you an accurate result.
