do you gain abdominal weight after umbilical cord hernia surgery
Hi there! I found that the greatest risk associated with umbilical hernia is missing the diagnosis. Additional risks include the formation of scar tissue and recurrence of the hernia. But is usually considered an uncomplicated procedure with a relatively short recovery period. I doubt it can cause you abdominal weight gain, maybe it's just a swollen scar tissue?

Hello sas,

As April said, there is definitely no reason why you should gain any excessive extra weight after you have umbilical cord hernia surgery. This surgery is done quite routinely and people recover from it very quickly. It’s sometimes even matter of days if the procedure is done using laparoscopy, so even during the recovery time, there is little chance you will gain weight simply due to inactivity or eating more.

It is true, however, that after the procedure you might be restricted to do certain exercises or put yourself through big physical efforts, but this usually lasts only as long as it’s needed for the scar to completely heal. But it’s still up to you to talk about this concern with your doctor and to do your part in being as active as you can after the hernia surgery.
