For a few months now, I have been having BAD migraines-they last hours. Shortly after the migraine starts, I get super lightheaded, dizzy, vertigo, and severe pain in my chest. Within about ten minutes, I get numbness in my hands and face, and sharp, shooting pains down my left arm. Within half an hour, it's gone and all that's left is an awful headache and I feel groggy-as if I've overslept way too long!

I too have been going through dizziness but mine would alternate between dizziness and/or migraine. I got numbness on the right side of my face and once the headache is gone I was back to dizzy and extremely tired. Only recently have I not had as many headaches but still dizzy to the point I've been afraid to drive in fear of having an accident.

My first incident was while I was sitting down. I went to walk over to another's desk and almost fell over and pass out. That day I went to emergency to be told nothing was wrong. Hmmm...

I have, for most of my life prone to migraines but never this issue with dizziness. So far, I have had an MRI, my blood pressure is a bit high and the dr. placed me on meds for that. Stated my HDL is high gave me meds for that and gave me meds for migraine and will be going to the neurologist in a few days. I went to GYN who suggested could be related to a fibroid which will get checked out next week...

So, from what I'm seeing from here and from what my docs are saying no one knows and may never know. This is something to be concerned about.

I am having the same problems and have read that it quite possibly could be the fish oil causing the problem.

Another possibility for those only feeling the dizzyness/lightheadedness may be B.P.P.V.

Basically, it is dizziness or vertigo caused by crystals in your inner ear that become displaced when you move or change position. I guess it is common in elderly people or people with head injuries and is usually only supposed to last 3 months or so.

I am experiencing similar issues as described here. I get very dizzy and light headed at seemingly random times. I am 24 and have never had a serious head injury, so I don't know if i have BPPV. Also, it has been happening since April 2008 and I havent seen any improvement.

Although I have struggled with anxiety in the past, I don't feel like my dizziness is anxiety related. My head/neck specialist thought the ringing in my ears was TMD related, but I have had various treatments for that with no relief of the dizziness.

Sometimes I find that sudafed helps a tiny bit (if i am having a sinus headache)... I havent found anything that relieves the dizziness.

I was recently, Feb. 9th, 2010 diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. I had a complete Thyroidectomy on April 6th, and finally radioactive iodine treatment June 18th. At the final MRI to see that the radioactive iodine was completely removed from my body, apparently my hair was still radioactive. I don't know if this has anything to do with my newly developed unexplained dizziness. I have fallen 3 times since July 8th. Today is the 12th. I suddenly feel lightheaded, and when I take a step, I falter and fall. I do not understand this, as I never had this happen to me before. I was started on the thyroid medication on June 21st. I get really scared when this happens, and I do not know what to do. I am worried that it may be increasing in frequency, but I have no way of really knowing. Anybody out there experience this type of symptom, after similar circumstances as mine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ? ? ?

Same symptoms here...doctors have no clue. I've tried antibiotics to see if it was sinus, ekgs and blood tests have come back pretty much normal (except for slightly elevated liver enzyme). I even tried an awful antidepressant to see if it was anxiety, but that just gave me insomnia. It's so tough to find a cause when lightheadeness and dizziness are just broad symptoms :'(

For the person, I think it was Joe M., who mentioned an arthritis issue, I have heard tumeric helps. I heard it from someone who has to take several tumeric supplements throughout the day, but it helps her arthritis pain. Research has shown it helps people with arthritis too.
Someone had also mentioned on here, can't remember who, that their dizziness begins upon standing. I suggest they look into POTS or maybe bbpv?

Have you been tested for Lyme disease? My sister has been fighting Lyme for 4 years now. Those are her most common troubles. I wish you fast answers.

hi have been experincing dizzyness for the last 12 months, it started last september after i travelled on a cruise ship for an overnight stay with work, i did a lot ofresearch myself and found that it could be motion sickness due to the ship. i went to gpwho did all sorts of bloods which came back normal and finally refered me to ent. had a mri scan some hearing tests and all come back normal. im waiting on balance tests, but it did disapper for a short time from aprill untill about a week ago and have started back i didhave slight achy neck so may have to go back to see wether this is a connection. i drives me mad and do sometimes feek unwell with it. doctor prescibed me stemitil which dosent work, anyone tried anything that will make this dizzynes go away? also gp says its anxiety which i would accept but cant undwerstand where and why it happens, i also feel likethat i sometimes can acceptthat its nothing and try to carry on with my normal life but when the dizzyness is there constantly it gets me down.

This is my Theory for what it's worth. If you are taking Fish Oil pills, they are suppose to lower blood pressure based. I was using 4 fish oil pills at 1200 mg each as per the instructions on the bottle. According to what I found on the internet fish oil can lower your blood pressure. Taking that number of fish oil pills may be dropping blood pressure to quickly and thus the reason for lightheadedness. My reason for taking the fish oil pills was to lower my triglycerides. I am also taking Bayers Heart Advantage which is suppose to lower LDL (bad cholesterol).

Is there a connection between the two? I don't know but I have stopped taking them for a week (11/6/10) as an experiment to see what will happen. I also had wax in my left ear which could cause a problem with lightheadedness which I believe I have gotten rid of.

If anyone else out there has any other thoughts and ideas, I would like to hear about them.

If reference to what I said above, I also had vertigo. I have had no real stress to speak of that might have brought this on. Again comments/suggestions would be helpful. I am not in the health care community.

I had ongoing mild dizziness several years ago (am in my early 40s now). No cause was found and finally my dr. prescribed a low dose of Valium, which seemed to help. I've been feeling the same kind of dizziness for a few months now (i.e., not enough to make me nauseous or lose my balance, but enough to make me feel tired and irritated). Haven't been back to the doctor, but will do so soon if it doesn't get better.

I agree with getting tested for Lyme's. I had similar symptoms for a year - four different doctors told me there was nothing wrong with me, then finally my old family doctor said I should get tested for Lyme's, and I was positive. I didn't have the typical rash associated with Lyme's, which is partially why it was so hard to diagnose. All Lyme's symptoms (besides the rash) are considered "non-specific" and often a Lyme's test is overlooked by doctors. All it is is a simple blood test.
Unfortunately, I've had untreated Lyme's for over a year, and even after treatment (simple antibiotics) I have bad dizziness, headaches and chest pain, which led me to this forum. Hope everyone here finds relief!

Hello Joe.

I have the same thing, but have had "Panic" Disorder since the age of almost 9 and I am now 28...I take meds daily (Xanax and Celexa)...it just helps control my only symptoms (sweaty palms, heart racing and the feeling of being lightheaded). My dad has the same thing (he got it at 10 yrs old)...but i was going to ask if do you feel DIZZY or LIGHTHEADED? I am asking because, some people can confuse the two. Please reply if you see this post. If you any more questions about it, I will be happy to answer. But, I am not a doctor. However, I do know quite a bit about it...so ask away! Thank you!
