I went through this since I was a child. when I was hit by a car. 44, now and it does it but much less, every time it happens people say my eyes dilate. Not sure what causes it, but any doctor I been to, blows it off. It don't bother me. So I wouldn't worry about it. I wish I knew what causes it, but I have a feeling its related to stress possible, or deep thinking. as I do both when it happens.

I experienced this too, happen very often as a child. I never told anyone until recently and started researching it and found that there are alot of people that have had it. I am now 28 and haven't had it happen for a few years. Maybe its something to do with growing and developing. Is very strange. Maybe because so many people don't discuss ot thats its mever been investigated or diagnosed. Nearest I have found is 'Alice in wonderland syndrome' but its very different.
Would love to know if anyone has any more information. I have a one year old daughter and want to look out for signs incase she has it too as she grows older.
Thanks

I posted this reply almost two years ago, looking back my theory of sleep deprivation almost certainly helped bring this on, however since this time I have experienced the sensation a few times in situations I can only describe as completely benign while I was fully rested, additionally there have been times of high stress that haven't triggered it at all, so really I am no closer to understanding it. I mentioned in my last post that I had tests for epilepsy as a child, I vividly remember them mentioning the tests they took being 'abnormal', though they weren't overly concerned, it would be interesting to know whether there are any records of those tests I could get a copy of.

I will also note for anyone reading that there is a subreddit for this feeling /r/fastfeeling, I found this tonight and its fascinating just how many people have exactly the same symptoms, right down to the same kinds of indescribable panic inducing nightmares as a child. I will likely make a reddit account and post any further theories there.

Hi!! I get everything that y’all are saying ! Everything feels fast but I know it’s not ,it’s a very weird feeling and can get really bad if I don’t make an effort to stop it (I usually stop what I’m doing and listen to music I know the tempo of) . It’s like a new voice pops up in my head and is very urgent and honestly kinda mean sometimes which is extremely weird LMAO . I’ve also developed a new symptom within the last three years of when I close my eyes to sleep I feel like my body or certain body parts are getting so big it’s blocking my airway and I can’t breath so I have to open my eyes to make sure I’m wrong ? It’s very frustrating!! I’ll be turning 21 in about a month or so and I get them on average once a month now but I got them much more frequent when I was younger . I think they trigger more when I’m more anxious or stressed or concentrating on something . I’m an artist so when I’m doing art it usually acts up! I’m diagnosed with depression and anxiety and I believe strongly that it correlates ! Hope this helps ^^

Holy sh*t... I seriously thought I was the only person on the planet who had this problem. I’m 21 now and literally just got it for the second time in 3 days, however I’ve been getting them since before I can even remember. It used to happen all the time when I was younger and happens much less now. It was usually triggered by a certain specific dream that I’d continuously have a different yet similar version of, and I’d wake up freaking out. I also specifically couldn’t listen to the song The Saint Are Coming by U2 and Green Day when I was younger because, for some reason, that would always trigger everything to go fast. I’m honestly legitimately excited that I found this discussion because NO ONE ever believed me or took me serious or understood what I was talking about when trying to describe it.

I used to get it from a specific nightmare too!! It was always the same nightmare or very similar. I still get the episodes here and there, but not as much as I used to and I no longer get the weird dreams. I also used to sometimes get it from certain songs which sucked if I liked the song. I truly can’t believe i found other ppl who have/had this issue. I truly wonder what’s wrong with all of us lol.

I experienced this also in pre teen life. The last time it happened I was 11 or 12 years old. The episodes would last what seemed to me to be about 10-20 minutes when they came on. Then they just stopped. I had a couple of concussions around the age of 5 and had unique and tremulous childhood leading up the time they stopped. You can read about it in my book Blacksheep Ghost - the early years

I’ve just experienced my first one since being a kid, when I was younger I would wake up from a nightmare and feel stuck in my head while it was going 100 miles per hour though all I was doing was laying down and my heart was not beating fast and I was so scared.
I can feel my eyes going crazy and my brain thinking about 1000 different things all at once and I can’t stop it.
I’ve never spoken to anyone about it before as I never knew how to describe the feeling or if they’d ever understand.
After experiencing my first one in years as I’m now 22, I stopped what I was doing and laid down, had a headache and felt sick.
I have been told before I have low blood sugar.
