glad to know I am not alone.  I have stuggled with this on and off for over a year.  Thought it could be a heart problem (I am 46).  All tests came out fine.  Been really stuggling with alot of spasms the past few days. I am reading alot of comments saying it could be related to anxiety.  Well, these spasms are CAUSING my anxiety!!

Reassuring that twitching in the abdomen is quite common.  Mine is like a fluttering nerve tho lower down in the abdomen accompanied by a burning sensation.  Seems to be worse in bed during the night.  It's just like the feeling when your eye has a twitch.  I'm worried cos most of you describe it like a baby kicking?

Help!

I agree if people are twitching in legs, arms or tongue i would get checked, but i have not seen any symptoms for ALS be twitching in the upper stomach muscle. You would be surprised some of the symptoms people experience just for things like acid reflux, anything digestive related. I have twitching in the uppser stomach, and it just happens to be right at the time i started working out at the gym again. I have been working my abs quite a lot. It only seems to happen between standing and sitting. I'm just going to ignore it for a few weeks and see what happens.

I had my gall bladder removed 24 years ago, whilst getting gallstones while pregnant, the last 3-4 years i was getting the same pain (middle top abdomen) sometimes vomiting bile, sweating and in a lot of pain. I was convinced it was some kind of stone, doctors kept treating me for IBS, had scans, endosocopy, etc different meds etc... Got so bad in the end ended up in hospital, hey and guess what I had a stone stuck in the common bile duct! I had an Ercp to remove the stone and they widened the bile duct at the same time. The consultant said it was a cholesteral stone formed in the liver! I do not have high cholestral or I'm not over weight, so he seemed to think I,m just a stoney person. Eating back to normal now, but I'm now getting these upper stomach spasms/twitching ( like a baby kicking) especially after eating. Docs suggested peppermint capsules before meals, but no difference really, any ideas or  suggestions anyone? Thanks in advance x

Feeling much better now after reading some of your posts.  This has been going on for a few days now and I have been told thats where your solar plexus is in regards to energy ...I've been massively stressed of late so I'm thinking its a bit of that.  Weirdest feeling ever...and nearly smiled and politely decked someone when they said I might be preggers  hahaha I already have 3 kids :) but yeah...think its stress as I also get heart palpatations from anxiety but thankfully thats not going on just feels the same but a little lower.  Cheers guys :) I might go and get it checked out anyways and let you all know!

So it appears there are many of us still having similar problems.  After reading several forums, I think I will be trying the magnesium and multi-vitamin route.  I haven't been able to pinpont any specific foods or triggers for when I get these spasms/fluttering/burbling sensations other than maybe high stress periods.  I am a 46 yr. male, somewhat overweight, had my gallbladder removed about 10 yrs ago and have an occasional drink a few times per week.  Non-smoker.  I have been taking escitalopram (gen lexapro) for about 8 yrs now.  I will go for a few months without feeling one spasm, then "bam" it flares up and drives me crazy.  Tests I've had years ago: endoscopy (GERD and slight hiatal hernia), barium swallow, SBFT, MRI.  It is always in the spot just below my sternum and there is no pain associated with it, just a gaseous, spasm like flutter that sometimes takes my breath away for a second.  My pulse is never affected, so I'm pretty certain its all gastric and/or stress related, but maybe foods do trigger it sometimes.  Anyone have any more thoughts now?  I'm willing to keep coming back here to read and learn and try to stop these things.  Thanks!

I've been having pain in my upper right quadrant area for the last 6 years. I've been to numerous doctors and all tests come back fine except I drink quite a bit, so my enzymes are always high. They don't really know what's going on. Lately, I've also been getting these weird spasms in the same area as the pain. The spasms are painless but quite bothersome. I believe the pain and spasms are my gallbladder. Doctor said it's a possibility but I don't have to money to continue the testing right now.

This twitching sensation is called fasciculations. Fasciculations can occur in almost any muscle, and in this case it would be the abdominal muscles. Just like most other muscle, the abdominal muscles, when strained, may twitch just like certain muscles may twitch after working them out. If you haven't strained your abdominal muscles, it could be due to anxiety, some sort of mineral imbalance, dehydration, or stress. In very rare cases it could be due to something a little more serious, like a motor neurone disease. Make sure you're getting enough fluids and electrolytes. It is also advisable to go and see your primary care doctor, or even better see a neurologist for peace of mind. But, this is probably something benign, and nothing to be alarmed about. Hope this helps :) Take care.

I have this going on, and I have no gall bladder, I'm not overweight, and I take a magnesium supplement daily. I suppose I'll try probiotics. I have to tell you, I don't think it is gall bladder related. When mine was failing, that was horrible, cramping pain. Definitely not twitching.
