I've had these upper twitching off and on for like 16 years. That's as long as I've had GERD/Reflux or at least that's what some doctor finally told me after all kinds of medical bills for panic attacks thinking I was having a heart attack. When my reflux is/was bad the twitching used to be at its worse. Then it went away for so many years I had forgotten about it. But about a month ago I got food poisoning or something and its been back like with a vengeance. I am curious if its caused by low Magnesium levels, because I've been taking Priolosec OTC and one of the side effects ive heard is lower Magnesium levels.

Ok, I'm 13 and im having the same problem. I here's some diagnostics

1. Press on you abdominal cavity spread your fingers pointer starting at right under the rib then rest of you fingers down past your belly button spread out. Then press repeatedly until you feel the spasm then feel where it's located, if it's all the way up and down that's    Muscle spasms.

If you feel it right near your belly button its gas in your digestive track

If it's just near you ribs, well I'm not sure

i think i have a muscle spasm from a sit-up testing in my school but hope this helps. a lot of protein consumption can cause gas build up from bacteria. And I have been gasy today hmmm

I started getting upper left under the rib cage area pain and some spasms at night a week after getting getting home from a 4 day stay in hospital from colitis. I've been laying on my back sleeping flat for 4 months due to back injury and now back surgery. Colitis came about from taking ibuprofen for the back injury prior to surgery. I wake up with this bad aching pain upper left under rib cage and some spasms at times too. The only thing that makes it go away is getting up and moving around or using pillows to prop myself up. Once it goes away I just am tender there but may just still have some spasms that day. Just not looking forward to going to sleep. Wondering if lying still on my back has somehow stopped the blood flow in my colon. I had a scope 4 weeks after getting home from hospital colon is fine no colitis. They said ibuprofen use and maybe lack of blood flow brought on colitis but then this started. Some nights are worse than others. It's only at night lying on my back.

So thankful for FB and people posting their concerns. I just experienced this feeling today for the first time. I recently started taking a new Diabetes (Type II) med and it probably has caused me dehydration. Mix that with my hypertension med and I'm probably deficient of the magnesium and potassium. Quick fix. Thank you previous posts for your insight.

I have been experiencing these "flutters" in my upper right abdominal area/rib cage. If I sit up straight, it immediately goes away. I've never been pregnant, so can't say it feels like a baby kicking. It isn't painful, just annoying. BUT, I have had multiple sclerosis for 18 years now and was told it could be the annoying "MS hug".

Hi there.
I have been having the same twitching for about two days. I'm not overweight, Im 35 years old. I'm in pretty good shape and feel good most all the time. I have been eating garbage for about 2 weeks now. This has been a stressful stretch in my life as well. I have no pain or discomfort. I assume it's a muscle spasm. And comes on most frequent when I'm sitting. Glad to see others have the same. I don't take vitamins, and do eat pretty healthy. Will try to stress less and eat a bit better and see how things work out. Was thinking it might be gastrointestinal also. Hope this helps anyone and that everyone finds what they need.
Manuel.

I am 44, had my last baby nearly 15 years ago and had my tubes tied. I have regular periods and take some vitamin supplements. I have had small spasms before but now its like when I was 5-6 months pregnant, only higher in the abdomen, now I feel twitching, bumping and rolling (like when I was pregnant), its really weird. Now I have always been overweight but this last year I started gaining a lot more easily, been moody or emotional, more tired than usual, etc. Most Dr's always just tell me its just part of getting older but there has to be more to it than that....any suggestions?
