I just wanted to update anyone that read this as I have stopped having these horrible cramps! I was scheduled to see a neurologist ..and because I had to wait 3 months to get in i asked my doc what else we could try - she gave me some muscle relaxers (they made me tired but i still had the cramps) she said try tonic water (yuck - still no help) so i thought to myself well ..ive had enough of smoking (I was a chain smoker of 12 years) I will stop and see what happens - first week 50 percent less cramps ..at the end of my second week without cigs I stopped having these horrible cramps and haven't had a single one since ..Its a miracle ..cigs where ruining my life!!! I dont know if they where robbing my body of something I needed or if the constant coughing was hurting my muscles ..or if it might of been a lack of oxygen ..all I know if I am cramp free and its amazing! As much as I miss smoking and as hard as it was to quit I would NEVER ever smoke another cig. - my life now is so much better!
hi panndoria

I too have quit smoking for the last ten days. Muscle spasms have reduced to nothing. I'm putting it down to increases oxygen
Ever since I pulled my ab, I've.experienced the same dreadful symptoms everone else has. I even went to the emergency room and neither blood tests nor the ct contrast scan detected anything. I was given flexoril but haven't used it yet. Why?
Great news I listened to all of you and.came up with a few of mind and I have not had them in the past 3 weeks knock on wood.
Here's what I did. I was 100 lbs overweght, so I went into a very good diet. Lost 20 lbs. And plant lose the.next 80. very importantly I stayed away from gassy producing foods because I didn't want any more undue pressure on the inside organs pressing into the abs. That pressure I believe causes much of the spasms. That helped the internal organs from pressing so hard into the abdominal walls.
I also took the advice of magnesium pills and added a daily vitamin which includes b12 ance calcium. These worked great!!!!!!
I am now very careful, and I mean very careful, not to do any major twists, heavy bending and carrying heavy stuff, no need to strain (eg no pain no gain) since I'm not competing in the NFL or Olympics, Im very careful not to twist too hard when I put my car seat belt on, I try not to lift up my left leg closer to the seat so I can lean that way and prop my ARM or levies for more comfort, instead I try to keep my body in alignment so that no one part of the ab muscles ate getting either more or less work than the
others. I am also very careful not to overexcercise the abs. The idea of no strain no gain will lead you right back into a.muscle strain and or the emergency room. In fact I do not even do any lifting weights.right now. All I do is walk slowly for 1-2 hours a day.
Even when driving I do not make hard lefts or rights. And when going to the bathroom I no longer lean my left atm and let it for on my left leg, because it will put undue stress on the abs. I am also very slow and careful as I twist to clean my bottom.
Lastly I drink a lot of water. Oh I also get in and out of bed as well as in and out of a car very carefully to avoid any abdominal strain by pushing up with my arms and standing up strong with the legs not the abs.
So far for 3 weeks its miraculously gone after having endured this pain for three years. Good luck all, I hope this can help all of you.
basically i agree with just about all you have said!!! The bio-magnesium helps - I do think too much 'gas' is a problem - I watch my physical movements - loosing a bit of weight is going to help. i think i may have a small hiatus hernia but not sure. No doctor has ever found a cause for my spasms - and since I have had them for so long ....now I basically just tell them to 'p*****f'..I don't think they are going to kill me - just very annoying
Here's some more ideas. When doing the dishes or brushing my teeth and bending over to rinse, I slightly do a squat and try to use more of my stronger leg muscles rather than hunch over and strain my lower back or abs. Also, I got rid of my lazy boy chair because the lever on the bottom right to recline or decline the chair would require a major twist that I have no doubt exacerbated my abdominal spasms. And as embarassing to say this is, I've stopped doing the pornstar thing in bed and have done much gentler maneuvers that are easy on the abs. In the past I have no doubt that my past acrobatic maneuvers have caused many severe spasms.
Lastly I read in multiple articles that overstretching your and could actually be tearing the muscle attachments away from the connective tissue. This weakening along with bad biomechanics and bloating due to gas buildup or being obese or just eating too much could be reasons why the abdominals are spasming.
I am sure there are many many other biomechanical things we all can be much more careful about. Remember it only takes one time to twist or bend or jerk your and for all of these spasms to continue. The more we are actively conscious about it the sooner abs will heal. Again don't forget the magnesium b12 and lots of water. To all of you on this board, thank you for helping me fix this annoying as heck problem. I really do wish the same for all of you.
I have had the same symptoms happening to me for a couple of years now. About three years ago I was diagnosed with Eiosinio Facciitis, which is an infection of my Muscular faccia. My hands would fold in half , and would have horrible cramps in my hands and legs. After combatting with steriods, I got steroid Myopathy loosing about thirty pounds of muscle. Shortly after I started getting these Torso cramps. Extremely painfull. My dr. thought it was hernia because of the protruding of my gut. They would come about if i moved wrong , stretched or just sitting. No answer yet. I go back too my Dr tomorrow. I have even started changing my diet, thinking it could be from the poison's in our food. I am at a loss.
they dont no what it is,but im going to be having a mri scan soon, they said it could be a stone stuck in the bile duct as ive had my gall bladder removed
I get these pains too. I have gotten them for a while now. They happen when I am in a seated position, like when I am driving. If I feel a sneeze coming on while I'm driving, I cringe because I know what kind of pain will follow the sneeze. Almost every time, It feels like severe cramping of a muscle in there. I stretch backwards and wait for the muscle to retract (I think that's the word).
I used to get it a lot a few years back. then I lost weight (30 lbs, exercise and diet) and I didn't get the pains at all when I was thinner.. I eventually gained the weight back and the condition has returned. It seems obvious to me that it is related to weight or waist size.
I am 28 y.o. I have had these excruciating stomache pains for at least two years. My stomache muscle will not relax, it stays in a constant flexed state ranging from 30m to 1.5h. You can even see/feel a hard ball at times. The pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced, at least an 8 on a 1-10 scale. It seems to happen 30m to 2h after eating. And the only way I am able to relieve the pain now is by making myself regurgitate and that doesnt always help completely, just lessens the pain. I used to be able to lie on my stomach or curl up or drink a glass of wine (as a muscle relaxer) to relieve but that rarely helps now. I am certain it is related to diet, food intolerance, and/or insufficient mechanical digestion. All of which can be altered by lifestyle. When I focus on eating small, high fiber meals, decrease the gluten I consume (believe I have a slight intolerance for this) and ensure that I am thoroughly chewing my food and eating slowly, this problem does not occur. If you try all these things with no improvement, I would suggest going to a doctor because there are other conditions that can cause severe stomache cramping such as an infection, an ulcer, scoliosis. Hope this helps. :)
