I removed mine in the shower with virtually no discomfort. Be prepared, however for the line that you pull On to be as long as the stent itself, so you’ve got more than 24 inches worth of stent and line inside.

This thread really reassured me! I just removed my stent after 5 days with virtually no pain or discomfort. I drank a ton of water, took a codeine and flomax 30 minutes prior. I tried to remove it over the toilet and had a twing of pain, so took the advice from here and ran a warm bath. It came out very easily and without pain! It helped having a full bladder and peeing while I was removing it. Good luck everyone!

Thank you so much for these post. I was terrified to remove my stent and this helped me so much. I took a bath and pulled the string with no pain at all! A week of worry for nothing. So glad I found this page. :)

Well thank god for you guys. Seriously. I hadn't surgery this morning and have the stent in now, which I'm supposed to remove Friday, in a hotel, 270 miles away from home (my son made state championships for wrestling, woop wool, so we're headed out of town Thursday) I have been so stressed about it! What if it hurst really bad? What if the string breaks and it gets stuck in there and I'm almost 300 mikes away from my doctor?!!! Reading your posts, I'm feeling a little better about it, thanks!

Had mine removed in the drs office. Felt silly afterwards cus it took about 2 seconds and was not big deal. No pain, just a little discomfort at first, then nothing. Of course there was no fee as it was a "follow up from procedure" visit.

This time I was told to get in the shower and urinate. Sounds disgusting, but it comes out easier when you pee - it is more natural. So after a warm bath, I may do that.

thank you for this topic, my son , had a stent from the kidney stone procedure he had this past friday, and we were told to remove it at home, the dr, gave no instructions except, remove it just like a tampon, after reading the comments, and taking a pain pill and having a full bladder and soaking in a warm bath for 30 minutes, he was able to remove it with ease, tip, take a deep breath and pull lightly while exhaling,

I just pulled out my stent. Reading the posts below was helpful and comforting and so, without fanfare, I got in the tub and pulled.
It wasn't uncomfortable, it didn't feel strange or odd, it hurt. That said, it certainly wasn't agonizing nor did it cause me to black out but it hurt about as much as the first time I urinated in the recovery room after my laser lithotripsy.
I resisted the urge to stop and instead, just kept pulling. If I had stopped, I doubt I would have been able to finish the removal. It's been about 30 minutes since the big tug-o-war and is it ever a relief to have that damned stent out. I don't know how it is for the ladies, I'm a 54-year-old male, maybe a difference, maybe not.

This thread was immensely helpful to me. Thank you all. I am a female, fast approaching my 75th birthday. I was supposed to remove my stent today, but I also have to visit an unrelated doctor this morning. I didn't know if I should sit, lie down or where to remove this thing. When I saw folks mentioning the shower, I thought, well I'll just do it this morning when I get ready! And I did. I took two Tylenol tablets shortly prior. I leaned against a warm washcloth in the shower, took a deep breath, slowly exhaled, pulled gently and steadily on the string, and pulled out the stent with no pain, no discomfort, no weird feeling. Again, thank all of you. You were a godsend.

Thanks to this thread I got over my own anxiety to pull the thread. Your head is your own worst enemy in this for sure.

I did it in a bath, though i don't thinknit was neccessary. I took a deep breath and pulled at the same time.. once the stent became close to the exit the urge to urinate was strong.. i chose to go with the flow and release the urination urge and pull at the same time.. slid out like nothing.. simply felt like i was relieving myself..

I hope that helps others..

I too was facing the anxiety of a home string pull. I am a person that needs to know detail and the doctor wasnt offering much. Like how much force is it going to require to pull out, and how fast should I pull, and how long is it, and is some amount of pain normal. He had given me a script for Percoset, but was that for pain I could expect from the stone he had removed or pain yet to come from the string? I will say being a guy with the string firmly taped to my junk, and then the string being pulled due to in the night growth of my junk was pretty uncomfortable. IN addition to not being able to squeeze the stream off, or at least feeling like that with the string in place. Anyway, to save money I figured a beer ought to take the edge off before pulling, since I dont drink much and didnt want to fill the Percoset. I didnt want to be in a tub, soaking wet in case something went wrong, which it didnt, just pulled right out in about 2 seconds with just a slight burn feeling at the tip for a few minutes. And about 3 spasms of the kidney area over the next day, which others had mentioned. So, just like the others here, while yes it is kinda weird but there just isnt pain to speak of.

I just had the procedure done less than 20 minutes ago. It is uncomfortable because things are going the wrong direction up your penis. I think your first reaction is to associate that with painful but if you relax it is just uncomfortable.

I was freaked out about it for the past two days, my advice is try to relax and remember it’s just a strange sensation it’s not pain

Ater 2 kidney stone surgeries and over 70 stones removed, I was told to remove my stent yesterday. No problem. I'm so sick of suffering I was glad to take it out. The string that I pulled slowly came out in a smooth motion, but it didn't have a stent attached. I am so mad and upset. I HATE the surgeon, the string was not even attached to the stent. It was super long and looped at the end, it didn't not break, it didn't move my stent at all when I tried to pull it out. Is this how they make their money using patients to keep having to go back to them? I refuse to have anybody else touch me at this point id rather die from a kidney infection. I struggle with feeling even half-decent every day it makes me broken. I'm devastated, I don't want to have to go and have it removed by a doctor childhood trauma makes an office visit not possible
