Hello My name is Schnell I live in Michigan I just had Laparoscopic Hysterectomy with the Robot sept 28 2012. I went home the next day I thought the pain I was going through was because of the surgery. I notice everytime I went to the restroom I would urinate but wasnt sure when I was finished. a couple of days went by and I was getting worse so we paged my doctor and he instructed my fiance to get me to er. When we arrived he thought he had hit my bowels so he sent me for a ct scan during the time I was waiting in er I kept wetting the bed. the urine would not stop even if i went to the restroom. the doctors said the ct scan showed I had an infection and i had to be admited. Long story short I kept wetting the bed the doctor rushed me to surgery to see if i had a hole in my bladder. when he opened me up he found out that he had cut my left uterer tube during the surgery . so theytied it and sent me home with a tube in my left kidney. I have to go back to have the uterer repair in about 6weeks. I nervous depressed and ashamed to leave my home im only 34yrs old after reading everyones post i feel like my life has been destroyed. I am hurting all the time and the medicine makes me feel funny. Why did this happem to me. I have called several lawyers and they say I dont have a case. What can I do can someone help me please
On November 8, 2010 I had a colon resection for a mass that thankfully was benign. However, I did not bounce back as quick as expected and left the hospital with severe pain and swelling in my feet, ankles, and legs. 2 days later I returned to the hospital with severe pain and vomiting. I had pancreatitis, elevated liver enzymes, pain, c-difficile colitis, and increased swelling of my entire abdomen. Also, urine was leaking out of my abdominal incision. It was only after my kidneys shut down that all the diagnostic tests came back that the final diagnosis was made. I left the hospital after 3 weeks in pain, wearing a nephrostomy bag that dislodged twice, and a promised surgery to repair the damage in 3 months. I lost my job, had to greatly reduce my retirement just to live, and was also diagnosed with PTSD due to the rough insertion of a naso-gastric tube while I was completely conscious. After the repair surgery, I had a stent implanted for over 2 months. From November, 2010 thru May, 2011 I had constant pain, pain that was unimaginable. The final note was that I did not have the legal grounds to file a malpractice suit in my state.I did not die or lose my kidney. Iam better now physically, but the physical, emotional, and financial damage can never be fixed.
Your story sounds much the same as mine, I had the same incidense in 2012 that resulted in 4 months of work and many long hospital stays, only to find out a year later that scar tissue had blocked the uretor once a again and back to square one another 4.5months of torture surgeries and hospital stays.
Having recently had the stint removed in march I believed I was on my way to recovery and after the ultrasound appointment last week, they found the kidney is holding fluid and the uretor is not draining ito the bladder. I am petrified to have to go through this ordeal again.
Just come across your post. Sorry to know that you had to have surgery again. Wish I could have known your story before so that the knowledge I have accumulated may have been some assistance of your first recovery and you may have not needed the latest surgery.
I am a fully qualified doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), I helped a patient had got ureter and urethra damaged to recover quickly. To date, she is doing very well.
She had the hysterectomy surgery done in December 2012. This lady came to see me during the 6th and the 10th of last February. Her liver and kidney functions were still abnormal at that time. I recommended and she took a herbal treatment for about one month, and then, she went back to the hospital for a checkup, the damaged ureter was healed. The consultant thought that the healing was surprising fast. However, he then discovered, that there was a tiny hole in her urethra. It seems that the doctors initially didn’t know there were two areas damaged, one in her ureter, the other in her urethra, the dye didn’t go into her bladder due to the damage in her ureter was to bad, let alone her urethra. It took us another month to heal the hole in her urethra. By the end of April 2013, the doctors cancelled the appointment for the surgery of ureter reimplantation as the damages healed well. They checked her kidney, ureter, bladder and urethra again in July 2013, everything was fine.
Unfortuantely there isn’t very much information about helping ureter damage with herbal remedy on the internet. I have helped other patients recover quickly from other injuries with the Chinese herbal remedy. I would value the opportunity to help more and more patients who have just had ureter or urethra or bladder damaged during the surgery so that they might recover better and have less need to go through the same ordeal again. Sometimes, it is possible some patients could lose a kidney after having several operations to try and repair or reimplant the ureter. I would stress that this herbal remedy might not work on all the cases, but I think it something worth trying.
For any further information, you might want to contact a doctor of TCM locally, or you can contact me.
I went in to have hysterectomy and my bladder suspended.. the doc cut a hole huge in my bladder that went through the vaginal wall.. then he cut my ureter in half flush to my bladder.. had to make a new hole to re route the ureter into.. what the heck? i am terrified it will not hold up and what do i have to look forward to because of it?
My daughter had almost the exact same things happen to her during a simple day surgery to remove her left ovary. Her uretha was cut in error ,they inserted a double J stent for her & kept her in the next day.Within 12 hrs after the surgery she couldn't breathe & crashed. She was sent to the ICU for 3 days as her lungs had collapsed. Then a 12 day stay at the hospital now with a respitroy doctor for her lungs,a urologist for the cut uretha,a cardiologist for water around her heart. This happened in April 2014 and she still has more tests for the cardiologist to see if the water around her heart has receeded, more tests as her kidney is giving her too much pain. Her quality of life is so bad she sometimess caannot get up out of bed.She is only 40 years old.The hospital Obmbudsman & the Medical Examiner said ( after we made formal complaints),that she had the best quality care provided. These things sometimes happen .We are looking for a lawyer for malpractise as it was just a simple day surgery scheduled for 11:00 in the morning & home by 2:00pm! I can not believe this nightmare is still ongoing.
Im glad I found this site. I have been going through a similar nightmare.
Hi Cindy, I had the same thing happened. I was never able to leave the hospital, to sick and the doctor had some nurse keep walking me around. I became septic & was two days from passing away when my husband was able to get another physician to come to the hospital to look at me. The doctor that did the initial surgery kept saying, "Your wife is exaggerating the pain, I will let you know when something is wrong." Emergency surgery, months of missed work, huge abdominal scar, not to mention the huge medical bills! I sued, settled out of court. Speak up and make it known what happened to you! Do not let the same doctor hurt someone else!! If it wasn't for my husband I wouldn't still be alive. I sued because I don't want this physician to hurt anyone else!!!

Still having trouble, I saw a urologist who performed a cystoscope and saw a burn spot on my bladder. Told to wait to see if it heals on its own and watch out for possible fistula.
2 months later, I woke with terrible back pain, fever, dizzy, etc. and it was discovered in a CT scan that my KIDNEY, URETER, BLADDER & VAGINAL CUFF all suffered thermal (burn) damage from the cauterization done to stop bleeding during the hysterectomy done in December. Necrosis started forming on the organs and the Ureter to my right kidney was pulverized to the point of not delivering urine to my bladder. My kidney was blocked.
I was admitted to the hospital (for 3 weeks) and a Nephrostomy tube was inserted through my back to drain the kidney for 2 days. Surgery done on to repair kidney, reroute ureter to the bladder and remove dead necrotic tissue from bladder and also bladder had fused to vaginal cuff, requiring repair to both. Catheter for 2 weeks and Kidney stent in place for 1 month.
Post surgery still in the hospital, I was unable to pass food or gas and and had 2 intestinal blockages which required another surgery to remove adhesions. The Gastroenterologist had to reopen the incision and extending it above my navel and now have an 8 inch scar. My incision got infected at the top and now 7 months later, it still looks horrible.
I am still in a lot of pain in my abdomen, retaining urine and have to push on my bladder to empty. I can’t hold my grandson, can't work out or do anything that causes strain on my core because it feels like I have a knife stabbing me. I was cleared to go back to work after 3 months. After 7 weeks back at work (where I worked for over 27 years) I was let go…FIRED and wasn’t because of anything I did wrong. Now, I don’t have health insurance and am still paying medical bills toward my enormous deductible.
I am so physically and mentally wiped out from everything that has happened. In the process of filing a lawsuit against the doctor but that will take a long time.
