I have had a vaginal infection 4 times in the last 5 months, and just got a urine culture that is revealing that the (current) strain is staphylococcus epidermis.

The urologist that I was consulting stated that I should drink a lot of fluid and come back in a week... I've been researching a little more about staph infection and I am a little shocked that this doctor decided that we could wait on treating this... (since it's such a resistant infection).

I am wondering if I shoud cancel my next urologist appt. and schedule an appointment with a infectious disease doctor. HELP!

Thanks for any suggestions and support.
YES! Go see an infectious disease dr. Ive been dealing with Mayo and while the surgeons are great at cutting - they are little help with anything else....
They diagnosed me with UC. I had to have surgery to remove my large intestine. Right before my final surgery, I developed a fistula. that was 19 months ago....
I still have another surgery and have encountered some hiccups along the way. I'm now seeing an infectious disease Dr. at Mayo who seems to really be helping me. After all this time - I kept telling the surgeons and internalist that something was wrong, there is a reason why my body is not healing, etc and the genius surgeons at Mayo could not come up with anything. Finally (at my request) they ran my blood work and found that I have a staph infection running through my system and it is wreaking havoc on my insides (UTI, fistula, tissues not healing). I started a powerful antibiotic on Sat. and will be rid of all staph (hopefully) in 10 days! Then, I begin remicade treatment - every 8 weeks to suppress the inflammation that the bacteria has been causing on my intestines. Finally I am beginning to get some answers. If there is one thing that I've learned, it is that you must take matters of your health into your own hands. I requested blood work after reading studies linking crohn's and bacteria... The US is one of the only countries that views crohn's as an auto immune response that attacks itself. Sweden, France, etc all believe (and have studies to prove) that bacteria is the main culprit.

My next step is to take HGH which has had amazing success for chron's patients and actually either puts crohn's in full remission or significantly reduces the symptoms and closes fistulas...but the FDA won't approve it for THAT medical use - so - I may be taking a trip overseas to obtain it legally. Here in the States people (celebrities, athletes, etc) take HGH for it's powerful ability to heal/rebuild cells and tissues - as well as remove wrinkles and restore elasticity to the skin. All of Hollywood uses it - and somehow obtain it legally (if you are HGH deficient - which I also had tested and am waiting for the results) then you get it legally.

Get this: HGH can be obtained in the States for about $500 for 1-3 months of use (depending on how much you need). Studies have shown that most people go into full remission after 3-6 months.
Remicade costs about $5000 (before insurance) and you take it every 8 weeks - forever - until you develop antibodies and it no longer works. Some people have been taking it for 10 years. And - it never puts crohn's in remission - it only elevates the symptoms. You tell me the FDA isn't in it to make $$$. Why would they give you something to actually fix you within months vs milking you dry over several years - I hate our Gov. I really hope Obama sticks to his word and makes insurance and pharmaceutical companies be held accountable - since they are all in bed together.
