Hey guys, sorry for the long-winded message but please bear with me :-)

I am suffering from pretty strong left-sided groin and abdominal pain, radiating down into my left testicle and also into my left kidney. A hernia has been rulled out by my Gp after physical examination and ultrasound, although after seeing a private urologist he suspects I might have gilmore's groin. The pain came on after lifting a piece of heavy machinery, rather awkwardly due to someone else's carelessness. It comes on during exercise and forces me to stop from the pain. This happened about 2 months ago.

Now rewind a year, and I was about to undergo varicocele embolization for left-sided varicocele. Having experienced intermittent bouts of groin, left testicular and abdominal pain previous to this, the varicocele was seen to have been the probable cause of the pain in the groin. After the operation the groin and abdomen pain was a lot worse, with a gradual move back into exercise possible after about a month, then full recovery about 2 1/2 months later. However the varicocele still remained!!

I suspect that I might have had some sort of abdominal muscular weakness, which the embolization temporarily aggravated, and now has been majorly exacerbated by this incident of improper heavy lifting. I am almost 20years of age, and a very active person usually, doing mainly cycling and swimming. The pain does not seem to be getting any better, only with fluctuating periods of improvement/ worsening pain.

Can anyone please offer some advice??

Thank you very much, Georgy
Hello georgy, no answers here: just chiming in.

I had a left varicocele embolisation (entry at neck) about a year and a half ago, for groin pain cpps, by a french specialist. I knew that the varicocele probably wasn't the cause of my pain but i thought it couldn't hurt to help repair some of the blood flow through an embolisation.

Hmpf. I immediately felt better in my testicle. But......to this day I suffer from left side lower abdomen pain. It started suddenly and horrifically 5 days after my surgery, i was lying on my stomach and i pushed my shoulders off the bed and felt an extreme shooting pain in my abdomen. The pain slowly diminished after a month or two, but whenever i do extreme straining/sport playing in which my ab is stressed the pain returns, in varying degrees. It also seems aggravated by sitting. Now I feel like my left testicle is too retracted, pulled up into the abdomen. i can pull down on my left testicle and, if aggravated, feel it kind of pulling inside my ab.

Lesson: take no surgery lightly! All of these miracle stories of embolisation, and it's less to find a story like mine...but i have a hard time believing that I'm alone. Had the doctor warned me, had i read my own story, i would have never taken the risk. Surgery=permanent.

The doctor claims my pain isn't from the surgery. Remarkable, hm? just at the same spot...could be a coincidence i suppose. I do remember a bit of sensitivity there before (gilmore's mystery groin?). Could the embolisation have aggravated a preexisting condition? who knows, only God. To be continued--

I have a varicocele. I have had it for about two years now. I got mine after having sex. I picked up my partner, maybe when I lifted her, something had strained, or twisted. I dont know. But, I went to the docs, they confirmed it to be a varicocele ,and basically told me to get a surgery or just deal with it.

The varicocele isn't too bad. I mean, if I sit or stand for long periods, it kinda feels uncomfortable, and my left testicle sags alot more than my right. Iam poor right now, so I don't know what to do. I have 5,000 in savings and have thought about getting surgery. Embolization is scary because its a foreign object in your body. I think microsurgery sounds the least scary. But still, surgery is non-reversable. Iam thinking of just taking some herbs, doing some lifestyle changes, and hopefully getting a better job soon.

Boxing and Wing Chun is my passion, but since having this varicocele, Iam constantly afraid of getting hit in the balls, and certain exercises (like squats), I avoid, since it puts alot of strain on it.

Surgery scares the hell outta me. Since I have never had it, and I have a fear of all things related to hospitals. Iam in pretty good shape, active. I don't know how this happened. The Varicocele just popped up over night. Weird.

i am Hussein  A muslim doctor & i will tell u my story

I HAD bilateral varicocele embolization done 7 months ago ...& THEY Said its not painful & very safe ....no one told me that the body will fight the coils and after one month of stopping the pain killers i started to have a bad inguinal & back pain & discomfort

the urology & Radiology told me nothing can be done and to see pain speacialist ....i did steroid injection which didnt help and they gave me lyrica which is a very bad medication it will make u sleepy all the time ......

After suffering for 6 months i went to general surgery & they took many coils out with small insion laparoscopic .... still there are 4 more coils inside ....

for all people with coils inside of them its ur right to take these metalic coils out of your body .....no more pain ....no more pain killers......be free again....

now almost 3 months after the removal of half of the coils

the site of removal  is  normal  again  no  pain , no  discomfort any more

looks like  its me again .......& looking forward to remove the rest of them soon ..

i  recommend any one who had  these coils to  remove them  ASAP

really ,  who  would  but  a forigen body inside of him  to keep on suffering

the  urologist & Radiologist  pushed me into the worst thing happend to me ever which is this embolization  . i used to have testicular pain only before embolization & after the embolization it became 3  area of pain my testes & my groins & my back ........worst  feeling everrrrrrr

& i am still  paying the price ......

& just like that they reffer u to pain speacialist....

for  what ????!!!!!!  to  became a chronic patient  ....always on meds....

while  the ultimate solution is there  >>>>!!!!!!    JUST TAKE  THESE DAM COILS  OUT  OF MY  BODY  .....

i  dont  want to have this pain & discomfort anymore ...its my right as a human

To  All  My friends who  is  suffering  Now .....STOP taking the pain pills it will take your body down by time ur liver ur kidney ur brain one by one ....

AND seek  the best solution Take them  out  by laparoscopic 3 small  2cm wound &   u r  normal  again.....

The  Main issue is  that the urology people are very scared and p***y & they said they can't do it ....try .....

Anyhow  the General Surgery people they are good enough to do it but  they will tell you it  was not done before ...this  is  what happened with me & because i am a doctor i hardly  managed to convince one good general surgery fellow to do it .....

Now  My  Friends  by  my  operation video being the first one to do it in the world wide .....it is an ultimate prove that  .it  can  be  done  ......just  show  this  video to  your  ALL   doctors   .........

& i  suggest  a law suite at court against the urologist & the radiologist because of they never mentioned that  i  could end up in such a condition ....

i would  do  many  surgical ligation but not dam emolization ...

People  it  your  right  to  get these coils out  no  more pain killers  for  years

only  one hour  procedure & u r  back  again ....

i am ready to answer ur  question anytime

Hello,

I notice that you posted this question several months ago, but thought I'd reply just in case you're still following the thread.

What you describe is very similar to my experience. I'm in my late 30s and 3 and half years ago I sustained a groin inury while squating to lift a 40lb weight. I assumed that I had re-ruptured an old hernia that I'd had repaired years before, but this wasn't the case. (I wish it had been, as it would have been much eaiser to resolve!) But it was clear that I had torn something deep within my left groin, which also led immediately to the development of a painful varicocele in the left scrotum. After a year or so of doctors visits, a specialist concluded that I had torn my left inguinal ligament. (This is often what a Gilmore groin is.) I learned that much of the pain and tenderness in my left groin was due to the ligament healing, ironically. To explain, as the tear closes up through the healing process, the ligament actually shortens and becomes more tense, hence the all the pain.

To fix this, they eventually performed a procedure called a "Lloyd release", named afterthe doctor who invented the procedure. Basically they cut just a bit of the ligament where it connects to the pubic bone to give it some slack, which eases the tension.

I had to do a good deal of physio afterwards, but it seems to have worked, for the groin pain anyway. I'm still struggling with the varicocele the injury caused, but I had an embolization done last week so we'll see if that does the trick. Unlike some comments in the thread, I haven't had any added pain from the embolization.

Anyway, your description makes me wonder if your problem is also related to a strain or tear in your inguinal ligament. It's definitely worth askiing your doctor about. Even with the lingering varicole my life is much better for having the ligament tension relieved.

Not sure if surgeons perform the Lloyd release in the US. (Though I'm originally from the US, I now live in England and had it done with the NHS.) But it can't hurt to look into it.

In any case, I would strongly recommend that in the meantime you set aside an hour each day to do some core strenghtening exercies and groin stretches, and do them religiously. You need to relieve the tension in there and to strenghten your abdominal wall. You should be able to find plenty of useful material online or through a visit to a physiotherapist.  Core exercises that have helped me are lunges, inner thigh raises that target the adductors, bicycle cruches, side planks, push ups, glute bridge, among others. But there are many such exercises and you may need to find the right ones for you. Finding decent groin stretches online are easy enough too and do wonders.

Anway, I share your pain, quite literally. Stay optimistic. I hope that some of this helps and that you find a solution.

I had a varicocele embolization done three years ago and it was successfull I'm no longer suffering with swollen painful veins in my left scrotum. I have had no additional pain since the procedure. I too am very active and nothing has flarred up. Have you discovered what is causing the pain

Hi. I had the varicocele embolisation done last Friday.Everything was fine until today when I start having a constant pain in the lower left part of abdomen. Now I've been looking online for other stories, seems that Im not the only one. If the pain persist I will see a doctor and I let you know what was causing the pain.

Hello Hussein, I found your post and I think you have found the answer why I feel this pain now. It is seems like it's got to be the coils. I am always having to move my scrotum from also sticking to my thighs causing pain while sitting. I went to a urologist and he didn't want to help me because it was a embolization surgery. I wanted to find the video you are talking about and I will look into lawsuit after I get the coils removed. I would like to be able to contact you again if possible. Thanks

Doctor H. I'm having a similar issue. Is it possible that I may be able to correspond with you via email by chance? I really want to get my coils removed, but the interventional radiologist thinks I'm crazy.

Dear sir,
I have the same problem as you had- lower abdominal pain after embolization since year 2012. This is killing me. Urologist says I must live with it and they say it is not possible to take the coils out.
Can you please reply to me, I would like to find out where you have taken the coils out then I also will contact them to remove the 3 coils form my body. Please reply to me thank you

Have you found a reason to the pain?
I have the exact same problem and have a budge on the left side of my flank area.
I just got a varicocele embolization done 6 days ago and just got back from my GP's office and he believes the reason for the pain is hernia. I'm getting an ultrasound done next week to confirm his suspicion. I really wish I knew of these complications before I went in for the procedure.
