How long did it take, it has been a year and I am still raspy.

I had my thyroid and one parathyroid removed from cancer three years ago. When I try to sing by myself can't hit a lot of notes as an alto any more. Going back to church and trying to sing in the sing group voice gets raspy and have a hard time getting notes out and then have to cough and neck gets tight

It has been over a year and 6 months since my thyroidectomy. I am an alto and have been a singer all my life. There was no mention of any larynx damage or anything but I can no longer sing. Well, I can sing about two songs before my voice starts to go away, technically. I miss being able to sing. I don't even try to sing at church anymore. It seriously breaks my heart so much.

I'm eight months out and I cannot sing, which really bothers me. I cannot scream, and my talking is a lot lower and breathless than before. I also have a tingling feeling on the opposite side on my jawline, down the neck and on top of my shoulder.

I just wrote the last statement, but wanted ask if anyone has trouble with getting choked or strangled easily. I know I do!

I am so sorry. Pray and still be patient with yourself. Try to do what you can learn. I just had half my thyroid removed. I am a Singer and Songwriter. I will never lose my hope.

I had my the first half of my thyroid removed in 1979, second half in 2003. The only problem after the first one, was my voice was much softer, and I occasionally felt like I was choking. The doctor told me that was normal, and it did ease up after about 2 years. After my total thyroidectomy in 2003, I lost my entire upper vocal range in singing (above C-5). Used to be a first soprano, and pretty much gave up singing at all. Recently I started singing alto in a choir, and quality of voice is coming back, but I will never see those high C's again. May be able to increase it a bit though, and am thankful to be able to do this now! :-)

I had a hemithyroidectomy in may 2016 followed by total thyroidectomy in september 2016 because of papillary cancer. In October I had radioactive iodine. I have been trying to sing ever since without success. I was a top soprano, but now cannot extend my voice at all and get breathless after speaking for too long or walking uphill. Is it too soon or have I lost my voice for ever? I went back to my choir and after a few bars could not make any sound at all in the key we were singing. I feel embarrassed to go when I can't make the notes that came easily before.

I had 2 thyroid surgeries. The first one they removed half of my thyroid because it had tumors ,which were benign but 4months later the half that was left had more tumors. I was a singer and after two surgeries so close together i haven't been able to sing . I cannot hit any high notes at all and even trying to sing in church my voice gets horse and I have to clear it. Are there any kind vocal lessons or exercises I can do to get my singing voice back?

I had TT in Jan 2012 - surgery went really well - it took a couple of months before I could sing again. My range came back slowly (soprano) and now I'm 62 and I feel my voice gets "warbly?" I think I now know why "older" women had that sound in the choir when I was a child.....I'm looking for exercises to strengthen........
