Sorry I disagree. I was on chantix for 2 weeks, had no desire to quit smoking, none of the crazy dreams, etc, you hear about. However, I gained 15# in two weeks. Didn't change anything about how I eat, exercise, etc. It's like I was taking a pill to gain weight, which I can't afford to do. I quit chantix and try to quit the smokes, but not working. Also having difficult time getting weight off.

I have been using chantix for two weeks, I have noticed the urge to have a cigarette decrease a lot and I have cut down on smoking as well. However, I have noticed considerable stomach cramping, bloating and gas. I am hungry all the time and eat like a machine (never had that before) I've gained ten lbs in two weeks. I have also noticed I cannot sleep at night, been averaging 4 hours a. Sleep a night which in turn I am so tired during the day. I too have vivid dreams when I can get to sleep. Not sure if I will continue past the starter pack and pray I can do it on my own without further weight gain

I took chantix around 6 years ago. While I stopped smoking within 2 weeks , I also started gaining weight at an alarming rate. I could literally put on pounds in a day despite being very strict with my diet and exercise. After stopping the chantix the weight gain continued. I have always been a size uk 8 and approx 110 lbs even after pregnancies but I found myself ballooning up to a size 16 , couldn't even look at my weight on scales I retained fluid around my ankles and the rest of my body. Water tablets did nothing to help this. I was so miserable as I did not regocnise myself anymore. Nothing I did helped me shift any weight.I became so depressed about this that after 18 months of quitting cigs I decided to get back on the cigs as a kind of experiment to myself to see if it would have any effect. The first cig I had made me P around 3 litres !!! I continued to smoke and over the next few months returned to my normal weight. Once I had got back to my normal 110 lbs I stopped again , this time cold turkey. It was hard but I did not put the weight on me as chantix had done or mess with my mind. I would never recommend anyone to take these tablets as they seemed to mess with my mind and my body. I have heard many horror stories about these tablets including people with no past mental health issues committing suicide after a short time of being on them. Best avoided in my opinion

Chantix, if anything helps you lose weight, based upon the fact that it binds to nicotinic receptors. The likelihood is that your weight gain is related to something else. Also two weeks is not an adequate period of time to have determined it was medication related. Water weight is the only thing that could account for that rapid of a gain or loss in weight and would not be Chantix related. Weight gain is a common side effect of smoking cessation. You don't gain from taking Chantix, you gain because you are no longer smoking. Nicotine is an "upper" for your body and increases metabolism, it's a bit of a downer when your body quits receiving the nicotine dose that it was used to having.

I have noticed this is an older thread but, I wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I am 44, male, and have smoked for over 25 years. The first time I quit smoking 2 years ago was with the aid of Chantix. I quit for 10 months (took Chantix for 3 months). I went from a body weight of 170 when I quit to a whopping 205... 9 months later. I am very fit. I work as a part time personal trainer and have competed in various sports for most of my life. I was so confused. I did everything to lose the weight. It just hung on. So by this point, I felt like c**p and a blob. This was the only time in my life I had more than 12% body fat. I measured in at a whopping 23%. So I had doubled my body fat.

So one day I went back to smoking. Within 3 months, I was back down to 175. Yeah, kind of a bad trade off... kind of a good trade off. So clearly it is not the Chantix. Honestly, I feel better smoking overall. Until I go to do cardio or when I try to get to sleep. I have so much more sinus drainage when I smoke. Nothing like feeling you are choking on your own fluids. Now with Motocross starting back up... I decided to quit again with Chantix. This time, it will be for good (fingers crossed). I’ve been on Chantix for 3 months and have been smoke free for 2.

So to sum up my experience: Chantix works, you might have to give it a couple tries before it kicks in. I have tried it before and it didn’t work at all. You will gain weight from quitting smoking. It is not the Chantix directly. I proved that point by going back to smoking like a id**t. What happens to the body after you quit smoking is what I’m trying to figure out. I personally feel that my metabolism gets soooo screwed up. If you eat clean... you still gain. If you exercise harder, you will still gain. I’m leaning toward the body not being able to process the food the same way. Maybe the thyroid or some glands get out of what. Endocrine system? Guess I will get some labs done and get my blood work checked next. There has to be a easy solution. It can’t just be from the higher metabolism that cigarettes generate. I don’t even think it has anything to do with caloric intake. If someone knows... please share.

I took chantix for a month and put on over 100 pounds within a year of finishing my prescription. I was a perfectly healthy smoker and now a miserably unhealthy non smoker. I understand completely what you are going through. That was 7 years ago

Stop taking it now!

THIS DRUG IS AS GOOD AS DRINKING THE "KOOL AID" at the mass sucide in November 1978 Jonestown. In which over 900 members of the Peoples Temple, who were followers of Jim Jones, died, many of whom committed suicide by drinking a mixture of a powdered soft-drink flavoring agent laced with cyanide and prescription drugs Valium, Phenergan, and chloral hydrate, while the rest of the members, including 89 infants and elderly, were killed by forced ingestion of the poison.

CHAMPIX IS KNOWN AS THE SUCIDE DRUG FOR A REASON. YOU WILL WANT TO DIE - YOULL FEEL SO BAD.
Firstly when did "making someone feel BAD" ever cure addiction? Its the opposite - you need to make them feel good. There's a hole and void to fill - which cigarettes do perfectly. Usually in the heart.

THIS DRUG IS A GIMMICK. WHATS A GIMMICK??

gimmick
ˈɡɪmɪk/
noun
plural noun: gimmicks
a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade, MONEY.
"it is not so much a programme to improve services as a gimmick to gain votes"
synonyms:publicity device, stunt.

After your done taking this drug and you feel so sick in the stomach -- so bad -- PFIZER will be there with there next drug to fix your side effects. So, you started out with one drug to quit smoking and you end up on 29 of their finest "GOLD STANDARD" Drugs to fix the 29 new issues (or side effects) you NOW HAVE. YOU DIDNT HAVE THEM BEFORE - BUT YOUR SURE AS ** DO NOW!!
This can be anything from antidepressants to cancer drugs - as champix will cause the proliferation of existing cancer tumor cells accelerating any small tumors you may have! Yay (SO YOU NOW HAVE AGGRESSIVE CANCER) TO high blood pressure, diabetes from eating so much junk from quitting smoking to ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING!!!!!! THEY CAN THINK OF....
THESE pharmaceutical COMPANIES ARE NO BETTER THAN TRAVELLING SALES MEN - THE CIRCUS - THEY NEED YOU TO TAKE THEIR PRODUCT AND GET SICK SO THEY CAN FEED YOU 29 OF THEIR OTHER PRODUCTS - AS BADLY AS THEY NEED TO PUT FOOD ON THEIR TABLES AND BUY THEIR 18YR OLD DAUGHTER A BMW..

This DRUG - CHAMPIX, THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES and the CANCER ONCOLOGY DOCTORS - ARE THE MOST DESPICABLE, DISGUSTING SALES PEOPLE YOULL EVER MEET.
The oncologists get massive kickbacks from selling the cancer drugs bought wholesale from the pharmaceutical companies - THEY WANT YOU TO BE SICK!! IT PUTS BREAD ON THEIR TABLE AND BACON UP THEIR****** TO THE TUNE OF A SIMPLE $40,000 PA - and this is what's declared - what we know about!

Interesting a vegetarian or vegan diet would stop cancer from developing in the first place - but its unheard of for oncologists to speak of it.
THESE PEOPLE ARE NO BETTER THAN THE TRAVELLING CIRCUS. In fact the circus usually has more heart.
PLEASE MEET MY NEW TRAVELLING SALES LADY Michaelly White (ONCOLOGIST) & her MAGICAL TRAINED MONKEY - MS KRAUSS (cancer nurse).

Its amazing what that monkey can do - carry pamphlets, give injections. Jeez I failed school but I reckon I could do it!!??

Don't do it! It will make you quit about as much as patches do - without the horrible side effects. The reports are no joke! Its a very dangerous drug. It resulted in me getting cancer 4-5mths after taking it. And the same for many others but the link isn't noticed. There are some reports from 2010 of aggressive cancers following use of champix. The depression, utter fatigue and suicidal ideation persists 6 yrs later. You need to work out WHY your are smoking beyond the addiction -ie. Energy levels, thyroid, stress, hormones - and address THE ACTUAL ISSUE causing your addiction. Natural is better and Allen Carr's book works - it will take you just as far on your quit journey as will patches and you won't sit there by yourself later regretting taking some drug that makes these money hungry pharmaceutical companies billions of $. DONT DO IT!

The drug causes permanent damage and changes to vital processes in the brain. It can't be undone like you can take a patch off. It takes up to 7-9years for your body to recover and replace all cells etc. Even then the damage can already be done. The TGA has received several documents questioning why there are not warning labels on the Australian version and it continues to be ignored and covered up.
Money talks. Don't be another regretful statstistic. These reports are REAL. Its extremely dangerous.

These doctors, oncologists and pharmaceutical companies SHOULD BE THE MOST DISRESPECTED PROFESSION IN THE WORLD NOT RESPECTED.
THEY GET INTO IT FOR THE MONEY AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. THEY CARE ABOUT GETTING PAID.
There are drug dealers on the street with more ETHICS, MORALS, EMPATHY AND CARE FOR YOUR HEALTH than these people have.

Don't worry if it doesn't sound Rosey. We all have to decide which is more important continuing smoking n be at great health risk or gain weight and over time get the weight off with healthier lungs. My oxygen level was getting very low so being able to breathe better was more important to me than gaining weight. N trust me it wasn't a easy decision Suboxone ALREADY made me gain 70 pounds n now Chantix another 13. So now I'm 90 pounds over weight. But I have cut out anything that maybe making me gain any more weight n I CAN BREATHE!!
