I just started having these symptoms...and it is awful. I take Synthroid, medicine for an under performing thyroid and set my alarm 1 hour before I actually need to get up because I can not eat for one hour after I take it. 3 weeks ago I started having the symptoms that I have read from everyone on this blog - nausea, pain in the legs, burning in the chest...near anxiety attack. I think I have it figured out. I have acid reflux and take Zantac, however it never dawned on me that these symptoms were the cause of still yet - acid in the stomach. So, I have eliminated caffiene, no coffe, diet Cokes, or even Cranberry juice. I eat a protien and carb with every meal, and drink lots of fluids.

I am feeling better since I started watching what I eat. I will log back on to this post in the near future and let you know if I have continued to have results eating this way. I certainly hope so because this is very debilitating! And, I am a morning person! I have come to dread mornings because of these feelings.

BTW - I also found that sleeping propped up helped...which confirms this may be acid in the stomach.

Good LucK!!!!

i'm so glad we are not alone! my boyfriend and i recently started waking up feeling sick. at first, i was the only one that woke up with the queesy feeling that left me in the bathroom for hours at a time. fearing pregnancy, i was tested several times by my doctor, none of which were positive. about a month after i began getting sick, my boyfriend started showing symptoms. now, we both figt for the toilet in the mornings and keep a trashcan in the car for our daily commute. we are in our early 20's and no one believed us wen we told them how sick we get. our grades and work have been affected by this debilitating mystery illness. no doctor believes us and always says it is either irritable bowel syndrome or acid reflux. this is not heartburn. i just want to tell them to stay at our place for a night and see what we go through every morning. has anyone found a doctor that believes them? if so, how did you get their attention? good luck to everyone that goes through this.

Hi, im a 24 year old female with this same problem!! for me it started a little over a year ago. it was every single morning for about 2 months, but has since subsided to a few times a week.. some days its so bad that i cant even go to work.. like today.. i stayed home because i could not stop gagging... i fell back asleep and since woken up and has felt better.. though the nausea is still lingering... very rarely is it accompanied by diarrhea and ive only actually thrown up up once or twice.. its mostly dry heaving in the morning.. i've had stool tests, endoscopy tests, blood tests ultra sounds and nothing.. ive been seeing a gastral doctor and he hasn't found anything either.. it just sucks! i also experience numbness in my arms sometimes during the night.. though im not sure this is linked... the only thing ive noticed is i dont have this issue on the weekends like anther poster said.. so i guess it is tied to sleeping some how.. its scarey feeling like this every morning.. its effecting me getting to work.. ic ant lose my job i dont know what to do.. i am going to try some of the tips you guys suggested crackers, protein at night etc.. though i do find some comfort in the fact that im not the only one who has this issue

I get a feeling of a empty pit in my stomach in the morning. I thought it was hunger but food doesn't help. It usually lessens as the day goes on and comes back when I go to bed. I feel like a could vomit but nothing comes up. Its like there is pressure at the top of my stomach and I can't burp. I have been gassy the past few days as well. It may be due to the fact that my period is next week but I don't know. I have ended up straining on the toilet a couple times too. I don't think its pregnancy -I take the pill every day- But it seems like most of you have the same problem. I don't know what it is.

I see that mostly women are having this problem but I am as well and I am a guy. I have lost about 12 to 15 lbs in the last month. I feel sick / nausea after I eat so I havent eaten much which is the reason for the wieght loss. I just absolutely HATE vomiting soo I have just dealt with soup daily which doesnt cause me to feel severe nausea. I always have it in the morning regardless how early I eat before I sleep. I have an appt to see an Internal Doctor (thats what they call them in germany) next week. Hope this is nothing serious like cancer (it does run in my family) not stomach cancer just cancer in general. I have chronic bad breath but I admit Im not an avid brusher which I am changing ASAP. Just mentioned the bad breath becuase I read somewhere that it can be caused by something wrong internally and not by brushing ie lack thereof. My girlfriend made a big dinner last night and I finally ate and didnt feel sick right after but in the morning my stomach was again bubbling and making all those loud I have to use the restroom noises, along with slight nausea feelings. I really wish I knew what the problem is. I read also that maybe Im having too much acid in my stomach, not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Im 28 and have also been suffering from this problem for 3 1/2 years. Every morning, I wake up dizzy, nauseated, and with horrible stomach cramps. The cramps are relieved by a BM if I can even do that...sometimes its diarhhea and sometimes Im constipated for a week till I give in and drink a gallon of prune juice because I am ready to explode. Most of the time I have a very crappy appetite too. It is hard for me to eat anything, and a lot of times I find myself choking a plain piece of bread or toast down because I get even sicker if I don't eat. I am awake half of the night because im so sick to my stomach.

Its funny that nobody has actually posted any answers...Well I have been to the doc for my problem and had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy done and was diagnosed with IBS, which like another person said, I feel like this is a total cop out because he cannot figure out what is wrong with me (just because nobody can give a reason as to why this problem occurs, and there is nothing you can actually see with your eyes that is causing the problem when you do the colonoscopy). He also found an ulcer in my stomach which I have been treated for and haven't had a painful flare up for a month or so from that.

Well as a 4 year nursing student and someone who has serious issues with this, this is the best advice I can give. If you are having pain one thing is to go and get tested for the H. Pylori bacteria. This is the cause for over 85% of ulcers! It can be tested for with a simple blood test. This unfortunately was not the cause of mine, so it was not as easy to get rid of. Also, how many of you have been tested for hypoglycemia?? Low blood sugar can definitely cause sickness in the morning and also throughout the day. This test is my next venture because I have a strong feeling that I may be hypoglycemic but have not been diagnosed. And for those of you who do not eat in the morning...force something down your throat because not eating can only make things worse. I have found that if I do not get something in my stomach immediately upon waking up I get extremely ill and feel like puking and passing out. I have noticed a lot of posts that have mentioned they feel better after lunch and do not eat in the morning...so if this is you, one thing you should try is to drink some juice or soda right when you wake up, if this helps and makes you feel better you may very well be suffering from low blood sugar and should definitely go get tested. Hypoglycemia can be indicative of a pre-diabetic condition and can be very serious if not treated.

If anyone else has had the problems I have, and been diagnosed with something other than IBS, please post! I would really like to know if anything else could be my problem...or if there is any hope in ever feeling better, or if I have to feel this way forever. It really sucks to feel like c**p all the time!!!

Glad that someone could shed some light on the topic. It's been ongoing for me for the last 6 years, off and on. At least I have a starting point.

Hey guys, well ladies.
It sounds to me like you have IBS. I'm 18 female and I suffer from nausea each and every morning, it's rare that I don't feel it.
What usually helps is a small glass, maybe 5 ounces of dark pop and crackers. After your stomach settles be sure to eat something that is appealing to you, fried foods and sugary foods are not your friends when you're having what I like to call an episode.
You should have a generally healthy diet but some people lose their appitite, when this happens my doctor told me to eat anything you want if the mood strikes. I don't know what type of IBS I am but it is intense and I'm just getting it under control.
The only thiing that convinced me it wasn't pregnancy nausea was the fact that I had it for a year an a half.
Be sure to see your doctor, he may perscribe you some Tuzen or Dicetel the first is a probiotic and the second is an anti spasmic, it takes away most of the pain but leaves you a bit loopy. Hope this helped.

Well at least I'm not alone....this just started for me on the back end of a short virus. I had a wicked fever and was left with a cough and this nausea. I recently went off a medication so it can't be that. It's very similar to morning sickness in type and severity. It's really annoying though. I too have lost a couple of pounds and can't deal with food in the am...though it does help! Help!!
