I have the same issues as most of those listed above. I have recently been looking at the blood type diets. I'm not sure I believe in them 100%, but I'm starting too. As a B blood type, I am not suppose to eat tomatoes (among other things). When I do, my symptoms increase dramatically and at times I feel like there is a balloon inside of me and is being blown up. It also causes my stomach to become even harder and I have difficulty breathing. I have been off of tomatoes for a couple of weeks now and have not had severe symptoms since. I still have slightly bloated feeling and large stomach, but it is not as bad as it was. This may be something to look into. Also, I have just discovered something called Salicylate Intolerance. Do a search for salicylates and you can find a food list and a symptoms list. Tomatoes are Very High in Salicylates as well.

These ideas were discovered by going to a naturopath and not a traditional dr. If you have one in your area, you should consider giving them a try.

I can relate to every person who has posted a message here, especially the woman who wrote to say she swells up even if she chews a piece of gum!
I am about to miss the wedding of my best friend's daughter next weekend because I am too uncomfortable and self conscious to go to a party like this.
I am sick, sick, sick of it! Recently a doctor told me it was just normal aging and I wasn't exercising enough. I was so angry. I am a basically thin person who can wear a size 4 when the "pregnant stomach" isn't acting up. The problem is that it's getting to be all the time now. Does ANYONE have an answer to this? Food restrictions don't do a thing, as I often go without eating entirely and it makes no difference. I am so sorry for all of the people who have written, and I totally understand what you are going through. I would do anything to put an end to this.

I've read these posts and all the good advice and experiences with this problem. I have the same issue with myself. One thing that was not touched on here was the subject of intestinal parasites. For those of us here in America, we are one of the only countries that do not do yearly or monthly parasite cleansing.

Parasites can create all kinds of health problems including stomach distention and weight gain. It can even create cravings for foods that are unhealthy for us.

The following is a quote from a Dr. Gudakunst who is a specialist on this subject.

"She has identified several species of parasites and a specific type of goopy plaque that if left in your bowels makes you fat, bloated, developing a pouch and spare-tire belly – and which also is directly linked to 99.9% of ALL diseases (including but not limited to: cancers, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, just to name a few!)"

Only because we aren't informed of it. There is a reason for that, because the medical industry, the health and fitness industry and the diet food industry do not want us to be thin. If we where, where would their income go?

As I can go on, I wont. Just check out the possibilities of a good parasite cleanse. You may want to check out the site My-Weightloss-tips.com There you can find some more writings from Dr. Gudakunst.

OH MY GOSH! I thought I was the only one feeling this way and not being able to find out why. I've been so tired of people telling me it's all in my head or that I just need to loose weight. I just had my galbladder out in January because it wasn't working after 6 years of test. I too am still hurting and my internal medicine doctor just tells my to loose weight. I've tried to loose weight, but no matter how little I eat I just don't. I think I will try a gastologist next. Thanks for this post. Even though I just want to cry and lock myself away all the time, it's good to know I'm not alone.

I too had the distended stomach, gas, constipation and when i ate it felt like the food was coming back up my esophagus. I went to the Emergency Room and was admitted for a few days and they said about a peptic ulcer. My gastro doctor told me to try to eat ACTIVIA, which i hated yogurt. But, i'll tell you what! After eating it for a few days I felt much better!!!

I just thought maybe i could tell some people about it and maybe help some others get relief! This is the 3rd time i had all those symptoms and every time i went and got some activia and it worked every time. And now... I actually really like it. Just get enough for like 2 weeks and eat 1 a day. After about 4 to 5 days it started working good. But, i continue eating it for several more days and I get back to normal!

Hope this helps...

Whenever I have bloating I just do a 1 hour detox and i go back to normal with in 2 hours. You just mix 2 teaspoons of non iodised sat with 1200-1500mls of boiling water (you can also add sum lemon juice/ or a teaspoon of cordial mix for flavour). Then drink it (works better if you can try get it down quickly as it seems weird to drink salty water) The boiling of the water purifies it and also makes it not taste so salty. Its quite horrid and I wouldn't do it if I didnt know how well it works. It works sooo well u will actually be sh**ting liquid (so stay close to a toilet). If you think about the fact that our body is made up of alot of saline water it doesnt seem that unnatural. Try this once, it won't harm you. But once you see how well it works you will be wanting to use it in your times of desperation. If you search round google you can find information as to how this works. But trust me it works a charm!!

I too am having strange stomach problems. I went on two rounds of vermox and it helped immensely with many of my symptoms and my extensive, and i mean extensive bloat. i was even asked if i was pregnant. i suggest parasite tests to any of you who haven't tried that yet, or even just taking vermox as tests often come back negative when they should really be positive. unfortunately, i'm still suffering from other symptoms. after my ct the only thing noticed was my abnormally large uterus, but i have another appointment, and i'm still hopeful. has anyone else experienced getting a new stomach shape? i'm not particularly bloated but my stomach looks completely different. it's lumpy and hard and bunched in weird places. my clothes no longer fit as I used to have a very flat (size zero) stomach. i feel and look like i'm pregnant with an alien.

I too have many of these symptoms and don't have a diagnosis. However, I have been taking 800 mg Magnesium Citrate (not the oxidate variety) or Magnesium Glycinol at night and it really helps to at least keep me regular and avoid constipation or other GI/rectal problems, but is not dependency-inducing like a laxative, and is a mineral you most likely need anyway or at the very least cannot hurt you. I'm thin everywhere but my belly, and am perplexed as well. My abs are super strong, so it's not. I am recenetly concerned I might have a vitamin or protein deficiency, such as a B vitamin. I have been a vegetarian for 20 years, but do consume animal products like yogurt, cheese, ice cream. Anyway, good luck! Try the Magnesium to stave off other GI-related issues though. It really does help. I also attempt a diet more like Ayurvedic, balancing a combination of foods and qualities, and avoid fatty foods. I do worry however about Kwashiorkor, and am looking into that and other dietary-related risk factors.

I too have stomach distention, but my situation is no where near what most of you are going through. I have found the answer to my problems or medical issues. I have been using the services of a TCM (Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine) I have been going to her for 6.5 years and she has done more for me than any other doctor. I have has some serious problems and I wish I had known about her long before I started seeing her. Try looking for a TCM, but make sure they are certified as there are a lot of people out there that say they are TCM's in which they have not had the proper training. The key to knowing if they are for real is that the first thing they will do is check your pulses. Each organ has its own pulse and they can tell you within moments what is causing your problems. They go to the root cause of your illness and treat you properly.

I too have the same problem, after eating a meal I have a bloated stomach and it makes me look pregnant, even though I am slim otherwise! It started off a few years ago when an infection triggered off problems with my stomach. The symptons also include a heavy heartbeat which I still cannot seem to get my head round, and also the feeling of not being totally satisfied after passing stool. I had quite a few tests done including an endoscopy, ECG, ultrasound but still to no avail. The specialists in the PRIVATE hospital said that I just have to watch what I eat and avoid certain foods that trigger it. Worst thing is I'm only 23 and shouldnt be having this problem. I also have a reasonably healthly lifestyle and no other problems with me. I seem to find many people in the same predicament and not being able to receive any help on this. I must say though, it is really important to excercise regularly, drink plenty of water during the day and increase your fruit intake. Try eating melon/watermelon before a meal it calms down the stomach and makes it less prone to bloating. Also I have found and this is really weird that when I do get a lot of gas I lie down on my left side, and keep doing it and then sit up quickly. the gas sometimes discharges (in the form of a burp) which eases the bloating a little...

Start eating only fish for protein, pultry has growth hormones, etc that could be affecting the stomach.
Read meat is industrialized meaning it is all corn fed, this is unnatural, and could cause all kinds of side effects within the human body?
Also avoid all products that contain high fructose corn syrup.
Eat what was readily available in nature to humans in our prehistory!
Common sense makes sense!

I am not a doctor. I am an avid conspiracy theorist.
The distended stomach condition was common in Ethiopia in the 80s. The condition was officially attributed to not ingesting adequate amounts of complete proteins. Nutritionists, such as Frances Moore Lappé, were promoted for their explaining away the condition on inadequate protein combinations. Even after her theories were disproven and refuted, her original books continued to be promoted and published. Its possible Lappés work was actually a smoke screen to give an explanation to the condition suffered by the Ethiopians in order to perhaps prevent other conclusions or investigations to be conducted into their condition, of which recently has been attributed to aflatoxin exposure. It is also possible that Ethiopia was deliberately given food tainted with aflatoxins in an effort to reduce their population.
Alfatoxin causes liver damage and alters liver dna to the extent that causes the body to produce proteins that are not compatible with the proteins in your body that regulate certain cell wall functions such as water retention.

Aflatoxins fluoresce when exposed to UV light with a greenish yellow color. If you think some item of food, or cigarettes perhaps, is tainted with aflatoxins, hold the item close to a UV light source. Although, the amount of aflatoxin in the item may be too small to be noticed by the unaided eye.

Unfortunately this form of liver damage is irreversible, but preventable. One of the properties of raw garlic is to inhibit the ability of aflatoxin to alter liver dna.
