I had THR Oct 2011, I was doing great. I started feeling pain in my thigh and knee, at my 3month visit I mentioned this to my surgeon. I had this pain prior to surgery, which I was told should be gone after surgery. Well it was back. My surgeon said that it would subside in time. Well it's almost a year, I can't get out of a chair, walk any long distant without having excurciating pain. I can't even sit for long periods of time, it feels as though my replacement I ticking out of my buttocks. My surgeon says that everything is going very well, and that maybe I'm over doing it and should slow down. I'm 55 and not ready to slow down. Not into pain medicine, but notsure what to do next. Just read that my Stryker Hip Replacement was just recalled, wondering if my replacement is defective. Any advise????

my husband experienced this too in 2007 with the 1st hip done... he still has some problems in that hip nver been right not on recall but debilitating. Pain is always at 4 to more. Just had the left hip done this June 6 2012. Everything went really well and about 3 months out start to have problems walking in the evening time. Morning good afternoon crutches or 2 cains. He hurt so bad the one day he crawed in the house crying and shaking. I was beside myself. He didn't do anything physical to bring the sudden change on. He hasn't been able to work for 4 plus years and his selfworth is really bad. I do know cells do have memories which does contribute to unknow causes of pain in joints of people. Healing on total Hips is at lease a year. If any body tells you different. God Bless them. Some people do outstanding. Some suffer horrible pain and never fully get back what they lost. Everyone is different. Unique is each case. Factures or cell memory it is real for the person that is going thru it. IT IS NOT FUNNY VERY PAINFULL FOR THE PATIENT AND THE SPOUSE.

Reading these posts has made me feel both good and bad. The good part is that I know I am not the exception. The THR I had in July was great. No problems, and I was off pain meds by the end of August. During physical therapy, I started experiencing pain on the left thigh. Physical therapist said he couldn't do anything about that because his job was to get my new hip up and running. I went to the doctor and am awaiting MRI results as well as bone scan results. Now, however, I am experiencing the same pain in my right thigh. I don't know how I got to this point because 2 years ago I was a runner, a bicyclist, and stood on my feet all day, teaching. Today, I am still using my cane and cannot walk up a step without having to hold on to something to pull myself up. I have gained 40 pounds due to inactivity, and I am in a serious state of depression. This all came on suddenly right after I shoveled my car out after a snowstorm. It began as sciatica in both legs and then settled into the right side. Nothing helped, and in July of 2012, my chiropractor started hearing bone against bone and ordered a hip and knee X-Ray. The knee was fine, but he said I had blown the hip. The orthopedic surgeon looked at the films and said I needed the surgery immediately if I ever wanted to walk without a limp. I was operated on 6 days later and felt wonderful. The bad part of all of this is that now I am afraid that I will never ever be pain-free again or gain even a fraction of the abilities that I once had. I am 63 years old and am not looking forward to having to teach 4 more years like this.

my husband had total hip replacement a year ago and was doing great also and started with thigh muscle pain on both sides a few weeks ago and is very discouraged. seems lateral motion aggravates it.Why would something like this happen after a year?? he thought maybe his work boots but he's been wearing them for quite a while now, can't afford to take time off work or PT,

I have the same thing going on. Iam 55 years old and no pain until 3 months play tennis and can hardly walk. Thigh and hip pain. Thigh feels like a knife is stuck in it just above the knee. Hip joint stiff and sore. I can feel the ticking when I am on the elliptical. Had the left one done 3 years ago great the right is a nightmare. I don't want to live like this with pain at times and great at times. Doc has no clue said to come back in month for more test.

I had a total hip replacement in April 2012. Everything was great until I contracted MRSA in the hospital. I was readmitted to the hospital in June 2012 for debridement, lavage and removal of necrotic tissue in my thigh. I have pain in my thigh. I am not certain if the pain is from the hip prosthesis or the MRSA surgery. Pain can run from a 4 to 5. My pain is a lot better since I went to a licensed acupuncturist. (I called my insurance company to find out who was one of their approved acupuncturists. Although my insurance plan did not cover acupuncture, they gave me the name of a reputable acupuncurist.) When the pain starts bothering me I return to see the acupuncturist. I visit the acupuncturist once every 3-4 months. My pain will go from about a 5 to 0-1 after an acupuncturist treatment. Maybe an acupuncturist would provide relief to some patients with thigh pain. Patient safety due to poor infection control is bad throughout the United States. You can check your hospital's grade for infection control and patient safety at http://hospitalsafetyscore.org/ Hospitals must do a better job on infection control but they won't until admitting physicians and patients demand that they do a better job.

I will be 67 years old shortly and I still work. I have had thigh pain but I found relief after seeing a licensed acupuncturist. I schedule an appointment when the pain starts bothering me (every 3-4 months). This has controlled the pain and made it tolerable. Perhaps a licensed acupuncturist could help with the pain. Hopefully your second hip replacement will have better results.

I to had both of my hip replace and has been in server pain after the surgery, of course the X ray and CT doesn't show any real damage or anything. My doctor doesn't seem to care or know why I'm in so much pain. Does anyone have tips or suggestion at this point for to try.

I had total hipreplacement in my right hip about 4 mo's ago, at first I was doing okay and some of the pain had subsided, but lately I don't know what caused it but my right hip gets so stiff after sitting and it is hard to get up, I have the same stiffness at night when I am trying to sleep that it causes me to lose sleep. I have bilateral osteoartheritis i am supposed to get the left hip done also in about a year, but I am afraid because the right hip hurt so bad now like i said it has only been 4mo's but I need to know is the stiffnes and pain going to go away I still can't bend or squat and after sitting or standing to long the joint feel so stifff I can hardly move I also get thisburning in the groin area which persist for a long period of time. The Dr's say my xray's are good but I am going to ask for a MRI because I think their is something seriously wrong also it burns at the site of the incision, is anyone else experiencing this if so any advice onhow Ican control the stiffness and pain.

Dear Tanya,
I had surgery on my hip three years ago. I am seeing the Dr tomorrow due to the fact that something is causing pain in the hip. My legs were also lengthened and equalized, previously having had much back pain from one leg being shorter than the other. If I find out anything I will let you know. The pain is not in the back - it is in the hip.
Have you found out anything on your pain? My e mail is
